We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks, it was our little "home away from home" during our trip. The check in and check out process was very smooth, we felt warmly welcomed. There was a hiccup at the start of our stay and they changed our rooms when we raised our concerns, which the staff took seriously. We went to breakfast once, courtesy of the hotel, and the meal had a decent variety of hot and cold food. The hotel's gym is air-conditioned and has decent equipment, there was also a sauna but we didn't use it during the heatwave. There is a Rewe supermarket very close by, and you can access the tram and the S bahn very easily. In the room, the bed was large and comfortable, but the table was too small for 2 people to be working side by side. They also only had one chair in the room, so we took turns working at the desk. The bathroom is visible from the bedroom, they strangely decided on a glass installation between the bedroom and the bathroom, with only a string curtain for privacy. But the room was adequately spacious for 2 people for 2 weeks, and we liked the size of the bar fridge, we could keep milk and a few small items cool in it.
I think the staff certainly did their best to make us feel comfortable and at home during our stay, it's just quite an old establishment that needs some upgrades, but that is really beyond the staff's responsibility, and more for management to consider. Also, for the height of summer, the reality is that most places in Germany do not have air-conditioning. We had a very weak air-con in our room, but at least it worked, and we could open the windows fully. We stayed at other hotels where there was no air-conditioning and couldn't open the windows either, and that really put into perspective what Mercure was able to offer us.
