University Square Hotel

University Square Hotel

Fresno|6.87km from city center
My husband and I paid for a night at University Square Hotel, but we left before sundown (something we’ve never done before) because we didn’t feel safe for ourselves, or safe to leave our car in their parking lot. The property itself is an older hotel, built in the 80’s and in need of renovation. That is fine, as we expected not the best condition given the low price. The rooms are large, and it seems like it was probably a perfectly nice place years ago. The biggest problem is the very sketchy tenants who seem (judging from a conversation b/w a tenant and the housekeeping staff) to be living there. We should have worried when we had to sign a waiver stating that no “drugs, including *********, illegal activities, domestic violence or pets” would be allowed. Never seen that before. Also, they required a $100 “room security deposit” in addition to the hotel rental fee. The hallways and elevator smelled strongly of ****. The floors etc were very dirty and the place was generally beaten up. Inside the door of our building was a large hand written sign warning that any residents who propped the self locking door open would be required to leave, along with their guests. Every time we went thru the door we noticed that the corner of the rug was pushed up into the door frame, which prevented the door from closing all the way (and locking). I am sorry if this sounds snobby, but the only other guests we saw looked like they had recently been living on the street. The car next to ours in the parking lot was in such bad shape - it really looked like it should be in a junk yard. We saw a couple of people circling the building on skateboards and checking the door (the one that isn’t supposed to be propped open). Not sure what was up with that but it didn’t give us a good feeling. The air conditioning does not work well, and our room never got below 78 degrees. We asked at the desk about the A/C and they guy said it was because the thermostat was controlled by motion sensor. Not sure what happens when you go to sleep. Does the A/C just turn off? The photos on their website must be a number of years old. If we had known what it was really like we never would have made a reservation. We ended up deciding to just move and pay for a different hotel rather than risk our car in the parking lot and ourselves in the room - didn’t think we would be able to sleep anyway.
Best Western Village Inn

Best Western Village Inn

Fresno|3.86km from city center
This was the worst hotel I've ever been to with the worst treatment iv ever received from a comstomer service establishment. I wrote a review directly with BestWestern (who knows if they removed it themselves i dont see it) I understand not all BestWesterns are created equal, but this Fresno CA, Blackstone and Shields hotel has me absolutely disgusted and outraged. I'm still upset about my stay and how the situation is being handled. From no refund what so-ever to telling me if I took down the negative feedback review they would refund half of my money.. I would rather someone read my experience and rethink staying here if they can help it. Racial profiling, the night staff in the office threatened me with calls to the police, the first description of me was some ”black chick with mangy mutts” [I of which was a German Shepard service dog with her service dog leash on btw] as i was trying to walk back to my room. I was followed and threated with phone calls to the poice and being kicked out and charged extra, all because of (1) a mistake made by the previous check in associate and (2) they didn't want to hear or believe me when I told them I had a room there and showed them my room key but hostile already the demanded to know what room and my name. Which appartly is policy but they way they came at me didn't make me want to as I worried about my safety at this point.I didnt remember my room number exactly just the location by sight. I didn't have the sleeve with the room number on it was in the room with my family. They followed me making threats after i told them i was going to my room. They made it seem like they wernt going to let me walk away. No crime commited no noise complaints all they saw was me walking back with my dogs in pajamas. Yelling at me Demanding answers from me of which i was at this point unwilling to give. They just rolled up on me without introducing themselves without telling me why they came after me. All they saw was again, ”some black chick” walking onto the property, as I had 5mins earlier walked off just getting my dogs more time out. They didn't even believe thier own security gaurd when he defended me and threatened to fire him on the spot if he kept helping me. The security gaurd was very nice and recorded what he saw which he was going to send to me but this guy harassing me (John i was told by morning staff)turned his aggression on him telling he couldn't send it to me. To top it off The pool water looked discolored There were mosquitoes in the room I was bitten. Broken appliances from lamps to the TV switch doing nothing more than turning the TV on and volume no changing the Chanel. After a horrendous run in with the night checkin staff I wouldn't be surprised to learn that I was placed in a room that just wasn't as good due to my race after what i experienced in my one night there. As other reviews said thier room was a ”clean room and nice” my room was nothing like the pictures they advertised. If you have anim

Fairfield Inn & Suites Fresno River Park

This hotel has construction, and we were only told upon check-in to expect an 'inconvenience.' The noise beginning early in the morning on Monday, the second night of our stay, was absolutely unbearable, and ruined our morning on the day of preparation for a relatives funeral. Literally sounded like a jackhammer on the wall outside our room. They’re doing stonework. There's dust flying everywhere. There's loose plaster on the carpet in the elevators and the hallways. Construction workers come and go in the elevators alongside customers with all their equipment and mess and noise. There's an operating cherrypicker in the registration area of the parking lot with no safety cones. You walk out the East guest door on the first floor into a total hardhat situation with people doing stonework on ladders overhead, construction material blocking the exit, and the door is usually propped open all day. I politely told the front desk that we unfortunately needed to check out 2 days early due to the noise, and requested a late checkout to 3pm because we had appointments at the church, and funeral home, and hadn't planned to have to change hotels today. Note that I'm a platinum member, and didn't expect this to be an issue whatsoever given the unusual circumstances. I was denied, and asked for the manager, who promptly flatly denied my request with literally the rudest most uncaring expression and flat tone possible. I reinstated my request and attempted to explain my situation, and the manager admitted that the hotel was not booked (obviously because my room was already spoken for for 2 more nights), but still, she flatly denied me. She finally told me it was because the hotel could experience 'loss of revenue.' So I'm here to tell you that if revenue is more important than customer experience or showing compassion to a customer you placed in a difficult situation, I will no longer be staying at La Quinta. I'll certainly never step foot in this one again, in a town I visit every month. And I’ll be demanding a full refund from La Quinta Platinum Customer Service, let’s see where that gets me. I also recommend anyone else over the next few months seriously reconsider. I don't care about your loss of revenue. Close this place, finish it up, and reopen. With a new manager. There are several really nice hotels with similar rates in the immediate area.

Nice hotel in town. Restaurant near by and breakfast was decent.
Piccadilly Inn Airport

The location of the hotel is very close to the airport, you can walk, you will be through the airport parking lot! Hotel facilities are very old, there is no service at all, enough for overnight stay at the airport!

This is the second time I have stayed at this location. I would continue to come back and stay here each time I visit Fresno. The location is a side street away from Herndon, which means it is close to a major thoroughfare, but a slight distance away from the noise. It is tucked away next to another hotel, which I like because there is less noise, congestion and traffic. There is a CVS and Chili's nearby and can be walked, but is a good long walk. The hotel is currently undergoing remodeling, workers are around, but it did not impact my stay at all. The fourth/top floor is unavailable. The rooms are nice and are a suite, with a small kitchen and living area, adjacent to the bedroom. The lobby area is large and there is breakfast available each morning. The pool area looks nice and redone, though I have not used it. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

I was not thrilled with the lack of a working thermostat causing the room to be to hot or to cold because the auto function didn’t work. The shower head was clogged up making our showers feel like you’re showering in a trickle of water. Beds were so hard we decided non of us were going to sleep so we actually packed up and left a few hours after checking in. Not the best experience but the staff was very helpful and the place was very clean.

Even with the pandemic we were satisfied with the cleanliness and comfortability of this hotel. The staff were great. Special mention to the front office staff Samatha who went out of her way to bring some bathroom necessities because housekeeping is gone for the day. Though there was no continental buffet breakfast that we are used to. The package grab and go breakfast was sufficient. Overall we enjoyed our 2 nights stay in the 2 bedroom suite. Thank you
