HOSHINOYA Fuji

Fujikawaguchiko|1.75km from Yagizaki Park
Probably the most stunning location of any hotel I’ve stayed in and one of the nicest rooms - in a minimalist way. No TV but quite the most incredible views of Mt Fuji from the room. The outside seating area attached to the room is so comfortable and for us private ( in many rooms it will be somewhat overlooked as guests walk around the site, but room 303 is on the “front row”. The Hotel reception is in a car park at 2775’ above sea level. Our room at 2910’ asl, dining room at 3026’ asl and the cloud terrace fire pit at 3117’ asl. So that’s 116’ up to breakfast or 216’ up to the terrace from the room - which didn’t bother us at all - and I am sure for less able bodied guests they will happily run people about in the Jeep. The Jeep is used to climb the 135’ up from the reception up to room although we ended up walking most of the time - only need to visit reception if hiring bikes or getting a taxi. Mechanical bike hire is free - we used this to get to the 7-eleven about 3km away for some in room snacks and drinks! Also cycled to ice caves about 15km away - well worth doing. Hotel staff extremely polite - English sometimes a little challenging but this was more to do with them trying hard to understand my wife’s dietary request for “no meat and no fish”. I think this was a little challenging for them to comprehend at times but they did accommodate and I know staff worked hard so to do. We sometimes I felt they over complicated the request by checking what she could: couldn’t eat - Just no meat no fish - simple! ( so no, bacon isn’t ok!). Breakfast was special - different but v good. ESP omelette. We almost got off to a bad start when I asked for only me to have the wild boar / venison dinner. My wife just wasn’t feeling that well and didn’t want to risk eating anything but was happy to join me for dinner and share a bottle of wine. This request was refused ( initially) - either both dine or I could be allowed to dine alone. I suspect they thought we would be trying to share the £70 per head meal - but of course the point was my wife didn’t want to eat - esp not meat! They conceded and I enjoyed an excellent meal and we shared a £70 bottle of wine too. I would have enjoyed the £100 per head Dutch oven experience but they would not concede this point and I would have had to eat alone ! Instead we had curry on 2 nights. A sort of hybrid “heat up your own” on the terrace. Tasty enough and worked well for us. But the hotel lost out by being rigid with the rules as the curry was far cheaper! So very many positives. The meal situation was a bit odd as to how it was handled but was OK in the end and my wife accepts she is fussy - but she can’t be the only vegetarian the hotel needs to accommodate ! It’s a stunning property in fabulous location and do highly recommend.

Firstly, I really liked the location. Kawaguchiko is beautiful and this side of the lake is less built up than the other side (and there is a nice park in front). It's walking distance from the station but about 20 minutes but not recommended with luggage. But not to worry, there is a regular (and cheap) 'loop bus' that departs regularly from the Station and stops right in front of the hotel. Also, the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to the Station from 8am - 10am. The check-in for this hotel is 3pm. Bearing in mind most check-outs in Tokyo are mid-morning, it meant we arrived in Kawaguchiko at midday and had three hours before we could check in to our room. Not very convenient. The hotel do offer a free pick-up from the Station but only after 3pm. Our room was good. It comprised of two single beds and a separate tatami room. We had a great view of Mt Fuji. I'd wake each morning and open the curtains and have a perfect view of if from my bed. If we were on the other side of the building, we'd have had a view of the lake instead. The bathroom was a little basic and the shower took a while to warm up, but aside from that it was an enjoyable room to stay in. The hotel had a free onsen and free robes/slippers for guests to use. I'd never used an onsen before and really enjoyed it - think of a really, hot steamy bath! The hotel also has bike hire available (1500 yen for the day). Visiting Mt Fuji was one of the highlights of my trip. Kawaguchiko was a really good base with plenty to do. I'd highly recommend visiting Chureito Pagoda and cycling around the lake was a really nice way to spend the day. I also thought the staff were extremely friendly.

We took the morning flight from Hong Kong to Haneda Airport. After finishing the luggage and entry procedures, we came to the high-speed bus next to the pick-up lobby to buy tickets. It was simple and convenient. It just picked up the first bus and went directly to Kawaguchiko. Before the bus departed, there was still time to have breakfast and wash. Go to the bus stop from the ticket purchase center and follow the next channel. You can also take the elevator or elevator to the underground bus stop according to the instructions. The bus will arrive. When you take the bus, you will see the data board clearly. If there is any error, you will not have to take the bus directly to Kawaguchiko Station. Come to Kawaguchiko, go to the end on the left hand side, see the tourist information, is the waiting station, all hotel buses are here to pick up guests, bus schedules are found on the hotel website; this station does not need to be reserved very convenient. The small bus arrived on time, the driver's service was very good, and he walked through the narrow street for several minutes to reach the hotel. In fact, the hotel is in a good location, near the intersection, and the surrounding bus stop is nearby without turning to Kawaguchiko. Walk along the main road, one end to the center of Shanghai, there are restaurants and supermarkets, the other end to the lake and the pool on the park, you can also see Mount Fuji at different angles, cross the road directly in front of the intersection and go straight to the section of the green line tour bus, walk slowly and reach Baqishan Park, Summer has a scent of lavender, autumn has red leaves, as well as art galleries, garden coffee seats, etc. The parkland is full of green grass like a hilly land, children and hairy children can run up and down, couples and elders sit on long fins to watch the sunset, lake view birds, freehand! Three-day stay, free breakfast and hot springs... Cheap, clean and spacious public space, I will visit next time, live here, continue to visit the unvisited attractions! 👍👍👍👍👍

Resort Inn Fujihashi

The hotel is similar to a Japanese-style homestay, it seems to be a family work, very hard work and good for the guests, so there is always a sense of comfort when staying in, in short, the service is ok, and the boss will give all the guests a praise! There is Mount Fuji on the front left of the hotel, so I have enjoyed the gift of Mount Fuji too much. The hotel is equipped with bicycles for guests to travel. Also: Ctrip, please thank the hotel on my behalf: I left the mobile phone and charger in the guest room due to personal negligence, and contacted by a third party. The hotel delivered it to me immediately. Thank you very much!

Came by during the coldest winter in Japan for years and was at first worried about the snow storm as our cars are not fitted with snow tires, so I decided to call up the hotel. On hand to assist is a very nice and kind lady by the name of Zora who tried to go all out to assist and though we asked if we can cancel the stay with no cancellation fees, she mentioned it was tough due to regulations from the booking website. Nevertheless she took efforts to keep me posted of the conditions in Kawaguchiko prior to our arrival and we finally made our trip there. The hotel is clean and new as it opened almost 2.5 years ago hence was dealt with the Covid pandemic and it was not easy for them to survive. The hotel has several Mandarin speaking staff and check in is only after 3 pm hence when we arrived the counter was empty and waited for a while for a Mandarin speaking Japanese to come over to assist, very helpful with suggestions but again they didn’t allow us to amend our stay due to the upcoming snow storm. In the end we decided to forfeit our 2nd night stay due to the fact we do not have snow tire and this is where I felt the hotel can be a bit more flexible by offering a discount. The rooms we were given is huge and spacious , as mentioned by Zora with a good view of Mount Fuji, however the view changes just the next day hence we are lucky to have a wonderful view of Mount Fuji from the room . Overall the stay was very good as staff are very helpful, multi lingual staff with one of the guy from Taiwan being able to speak Mandarin , English , Cantonese , Korean and of course Japanese. Breakfast is simple but very adequate .

The environment of the homestay near Fuji Kawaguchiko is very quiet, the landlord's service instructions are also very detailed and good, and the facilities are also very complete. Next time you come to Kawaguchiko, you will be included in the accommodation list.
Fuji Onsenji Yumedono

This was a great treat! While expensive, a perfect end to an amazing trip. After tracking through Japan and non stop walking for 3 weeks our journey ended at Lake Kawaguchiko staying at Yumedono. This place is spectacular, serene and chic! It is a little over the top with personal escorts to bring you to the your room or pick you up to take you to breakfast or if you book dinner which by the way is a massive 8 course meal, one which you need to have an open mind and pallet to try new things. We did request a western style breakfast which was accommodated to a certain degree but was excellent. We had the Shion room and it was amazing and breathtaking. The private hot springs were just what we needed to take away all the walking done over the previous weeks and find complete peace for our journey home. We stayed 3 nights and it was heavenly! Just beside the Onsen is a restaurant Houtou (separate review) but has amazing food reasonably priced. We walked into town and took about 15 minutes. The lake was 5 minute walk away and we did the whole round of the smaller end which is about 3 km . It is a beautiful area to explore and the Onsen is in a great location. Upon arrival at the bus station, you simply ask at the Tourist office to call them and they will pick you up. They also dropped us back at station. Very classy place and we loved it! We saved the best for last!
Cottage Tozawa Center

Cottage Tozawa Center is located marvelously right opposite Mount Fuji. Cottage Tozawa Center is somewhere in between Kawaguchiko town center and Oishi town centre. Best location because we could see all the fireworks in the living room. The unit E1 has the best view, I think. One can sit in the living room or bedroom or balcony comfortably to admire Mount Fuji. It would be more convenient for tourists who drive. No meals provided. Have to prepare futon by yourself. May rent a place for camping, which would be quite a unique experience during both winter and summer. It's a hidden gem because it is lesser known among international tourists.
