FUKUOKA U-BELL HOTEL

Pros: 1. Easy walking distance to Tenjin, convenient for shopping. 2. There's a public bath on the ground floor. 3. Relatively inexpensive for Fukuoka. My main complaint stems from an unpleasant incident: I always bring my son's old kindergarten blanket as a pillow when traveling due to my poor sleep quality and uncomfortable hotel pillows. Since the blanket's color is a bit childish, I usually pack it away when I go out. This time, I wrapped it in a clean, unused hotel towel and placed it on a chair. When I returned in the afternoon to take a nap, I found my blanket was gone, and two plastic bags I intended to use, which were with my personal belongings, were also missing. The hotel's response: 1. The cleaning staff denied taking it. 2. The company responsible for washing towels said they didn't see it. 3. And then, nothing more was said. This small blanket from my son's childhood isn't valuable, but for a hotel, lost guest property is a serious matter. After I firmly reasoned with them, and after consulting with senior management, the hotel agreed to compensation. I primarily wanted the hotel to show a sincere attitude, with three requests: 1. An apology. 2. Improved training for cleaning staff to prevent similar incidents. 3. Compensation of 2,000 JPY. I have no complaints about the frontline reception staff I interacted with, who were also in a difficult position. Japanese corporate culture often dictates that lower-level employees can't act without instructions from above. The intern girl who acted as a translator and the duty manager were also very understanding. However, the hotel's process for handling such incidents was incredibly frustrating, and this experience showed me another side of Japanese service, making the trip quite memorable in an unexpected way.

This hotel is super close to Yakuin-odori subway station, just an 8-minute walk after exiting. There are tons of great small restaurants nearby. The hotel itself is new and very clean, with spacious rooms. The best part for me is that the pillows are on the firmer side, unlike the soft pillows you usually find in Japanese hotels. It's perfect for someone like me who prefers a firm pillow, ensuring a really good night's sleep.

The service was decent and the hotel was clean, but having the room cleaned only once every four days felt a bit too long.
