Room is spacious with balcony. Outside the hotel, there are public buses going to Funchal center. It's also located in the shopping area with restaurants and supermarkets. You can sit at rooftop to have a sea view. Breakfast buffet is good. Airport is less than half hour on taxi.

Rooms with poor sound insulation, a lot of noise at night from the street. Good breakfast

Hotel very well located and with good breakfast. However the room and the bathroom were not the same as the photos showed, they were a little older. Wardrobe door didn't open well and was noisy. Unfortunately there were also ants in the bedroom and bathroom.

Recently stayed at this hotel for a few nights. Friendly staff members and welcoming. Hotel very well located in the city limits near the popular attractions and a lot of great restaurants and grocery store. From the outside, the hotel looks very modern, clean. The lobby looks great! Going upstairs on the floors, the carpets are dirty, stained, outdated. Rooms are spacious, but furniture seems old, outdated, beds are extremely hard. Underground parking available for a cheap fee!

Hotel cancelled my room without notifying or refunding me. I booked directly with the hotel so this wasn't a 3rd party issue. When I arrived at the hotel, they didn't apologize for their mistake or take any action in helping me find a place to stay. Rude staff and had to sleep on the floor in the airport for the night.

It is a hotel far below what it presents itself. The most disturbing thing is that they stole from us in the parking lot. They told us that it costs 8 euros and they overcharged us with 22.5 euros. I notified them, they accepted the error and still did not pay the money back.

Location is great. Housekeeping excellent. Room was clean and comfortable. My bed was comfortable but my husband's bed was not (can feel the springs). The hall carpets very dirty. Lack of staff. Poor customer service at reception. The process was not explained for the pool towels and the parking card. We did not receive pool and parking cards in our envelope. The roof top pool is very nice. No staff there though. No bar men available. It is extremely hot and there's no shade provided. We asked for umbrellas but were told they don't do that in October even though it was mid 30s!! It was too hot to be there without shades!! The neighbouring hotel had umbrellas. With staff attendants always present. The wall plant, at the pool, was knocked over and soil was left on the pool deck. The soil spillage was still there 3 days later. Breakfast is included. It has a lot of variety. Cold foods great (fruit, breads, cakes, cheeses) but hot food was a low rating (eggs tasteless, bacon and pancakes sit too long and are hard),
Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you very much for your preference, in visiting our Hotel Vila Baleira Funchal. Your description about your stay was very helpful, so that we can improve. Our priority are the guests satisfaction. We hope seeing you in the nearest future. Kindest Regards, Bruno Martins Hotel Manager Hotéis Vila Baleira & Resorts

Very nice and conveniently located 4* hotel. Offers peace and quiet, lovely breakfast with multiple international options. It has a swimming pool which I have not used due to colder temperatures in December (20C degrees). The Aerobus stop is next to the hotel (the airport bus for €5 single trip) and the return trip bus stop #15 is on the opposite side of the road. Also the Red open top Funchal Sightseeing Bus has its stop at the same places. The room service at the hotel is regular and effective. The Reception team is very helpful and fluent in foreign languages. The hotel provides guests with a kettle and a few instant coffee sachets and Tetley teabags. Tetley tea is a big brand in Madeira- it is served at almost every restaurant and bar. Unfortunately, bottled mineral water is not provided on a daily basis. We got just one 1.5 l bottle on the day one of our 6 days stay and that was it. The interior design style of the hotel is modern- very pleasant and comfortable. We had a side view on the sea from the hotel window which was beautiful especially during the sunset. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were on the soft side, a bit too soft for me. We had extra pillows and extra duvet available in the room as well as a good quality hairdryer. The bathroom had a transparent glass door as well as the shower cabin. The TV had all the international cable TV, which was very helpful to keep in touch with the daily news. I would definitely stay at Villa Baleira again.
Response from Property: Dearest guest, Thank you for taking your time and choosing Vila Baleira Funchal as your holiday destination. Your comment was equally appreciated amongst the team, who work on a daily basis to provide a quality service to all our guests. Each description was read with attention and we are pleased that your stay went as expected. We hope having your company with us, in the nearest future. Bestest Regards, Bruno Martins Hotel Manager Hotels Vila Baleira & Resorts

Overall the hotel is good but because our rooms overlooked the road it was very noisy. Breakfast was ok with plenty of choice but dinner was pretty awful. Starters were very strange. For main course fish dish was quite nice but same vegetables every night and if meat was chosen it was tough and inedible. Definitely need to up their game with the dinner! Pool and terrace were nice but bar in reception area was never open and one of the two lifts was out of order the whole week which meant long waits.
Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you for choosing, Vila Baleira Funchal as your holidays destination. Would equally like to thank you for sharing your experience with us. It's comments like these that certainly help us regain our trust and do a better service that we have shown our guests in previous times. We hope seeing you once more, for a better service. Great location, great waterfront views. They also have a decent dinner deal. Perfect location for everything. Did not like the reception staff they need to improve a bit. Close to buses, restaurants, parks, cafes and the water

Very pleasant stay. We had expected a basic inner 'courtyard view' room but on arrival were pleased to have been allocated a room with a side sea view. The room was spotlessly clean, light and airy and the bed comfortable. Tea/coffee making area and a fridge to store milk (or wine!). Nice pool and pool bar with a great view. The main downside was the noisy pipework which woke us up at night. Another was the 'hot' offering at breakfast, which sadly was never hot, and the bacon was the strangest we have ever seen. Strange 'juice' too. But thankfully there was a good variety of other breakfast items to choose from so this wasn't a massive issue. Some reviewers have spoken of staff attitude, but we always found the staff friendly and approachable.

Just got back from a week at The Vila Baleira and overall, we had a very pleasant experience. The spacious rooms are cleaned on a daily basis with towels changed if left on the bathroom floor. Bed linen is changed once a week. We were on the 4th floor about 4 rooms away from the pool but never heard any noise or disturbance. The pool area is clean and tidy with plenty of sunbeds (although at this time of year the pool itself is a bit chilly!) The reception and dining areas are also kept clean and tidy and reception staff are friendly and always on hand. We were staying bed and breakfast and the choice of food was decent enough. Fruit juices, a selection of teas, coffee, fresh fruit, cereals, breads, cold meats, cheeses and a hot buffet are all available and, as elsewhere in the hotel, the staff are friendly and prompt. Free Wi-fi. Ignore the instructions on your phone and get the password and sign in details from reception (changed every 5 days). Plenty of bars in walking distance. The walk into Funchal harbour is about 30 – 40 minutes. It’s a bit of a hill on the way back but a taxi will cost around 10 euros. There are 2 Hop On - Hop Off bus tours operating (red and yellow). We chose the red route but in hindsight the yellow bus tours seemed to go a bit farther afield (although no complaints). Oh and a special thank you to Jet2, the hotel and my missus (who organised it) for the bottle of fizz on ice that was left in our room on my birthday.
