Best Five Star Hotels in Funchal

The room is very big at the entrance of the house, and I feel a lot better at once. The exposed balcony is comfortable and not necessary. It is very convenient to dry clothes temporarily. The laundry room is fast and cheap. Enter the door to drink popcorn lemonade and take off happily. The bar at night is super atmosphere. Listening to the beautiful song, relaxing and falling asleep, the service staff is caring, the island parking is inconvenient, there is no need to worry about the hotel parking service, but the charge is 20 euros a day

The hotel that left a deep impression will have a chance to come back. The hotel is in a great location, close to the edge of the cliff. Invincible sea view. All kinds of swimming pools are suspended on the edge of the cliff at different heights. There are sea water, natural water temperature and heated water temperature, which enjoy great value. There are 2 large restaurants, and the rest of the outdoor restaurants, bars, and salons are so many that they have stayed for a few days and have not found out. The big restaurant buffet has a cabaret show in the evening, and the male and female singers play piano. There are tabloids in the hotel, 6 languages, English and American languages, and there are American and British versions. Service staff gentlemanly, friendly and friendly. Different restaurants with a variety of flavors to choose from.

Hotel facilities and equipment, although old, but also basically meet the needs of use, breakfast is very rich, the room given by the front desk should be considered the largest of the same type, but the floor is too low, the parking lot is noisy, the fly in the ointment is less front desk staff Smile, communication is frosty, resort hotels should not be like this. There is also a small episode at check-in. The front desk must ask me to send the order to the hotel's mailbox, and she has my order number in hand. Is it ridiculous!

Very good location, various full breakfasts, staff available. The weak point is that there are only six places where you can park, but often you already have it. The possibility to park in the casino's parking lot is up to € 6.30 throughout the day. Another weak point of the soundproofing of the room is the sound of TV, doors in the adjacent room. Sufficient hotel, pleasant pool, jacuzzi hammam and small gym for 3/4 day!

Like another reviewer I became jittery the night before we left about the hotel being part of a shopping mall - silly me! We had such a great week staying here that we want to return next year (and we rarely return anywhere because there are so many new places waiting to be visited)! Everything about the hotel suited us perfectly. Lovely hotel, great staff, fantastic choice and quality at breakfast, quiet even though you're in the town and, as for the roof terrace - all whirlpools should be that big and have those wonderful views! Before I sound as though it was perfect I must confess that putting out the lighting on the first night caused a bit of a problem but we eventually worked out what to do, and we did get used to the low levels of lighting in the room and the lifts. Although we enjoyed cocktails by the pool, we didn't eat in the restaurant or drink in the bar but that was only because there are so many bars, restaurants and cafes within easy reach that it would have been a shame to miss out on some fantastic experiences. We were also there during the flower festival, which gave us beautiful sights and became our regular evening walk being so close to the hotel. Oh, and the icing on the cake - one of our favourite shops, Massimo Dutti, is at the entrance to the mall!

What a fantastic experience This hotel was perfect The wait staff were friendly, engaging and entertaining The front desk staff were above and beyond with assistance, from booking excursions, restaurants or taxis - they were wonderful The rooms were gorgeous We booked a one bedroom suite, which had an enormous wrapped balcony overlooking the ocean - the only complaint was the bed is quite firm, but many people like this. A small kitchen for drinks etc The spa and massages were 5* without exaggeration This has become one of our favourite hotels We will definitely be back We will definitely be back

We booked Madeira as a last minute holiday as a good deal on offer with Tui . We were due to be staying further west in Calheta ,but due to road closures during our stay we were offered the Pestana Royal as an alternative . It’s much closer to Funchal and a beautiful hotel so actually worked out far better for us . We went all inclusive which isn’t usually how we like to do our holidays . But overall it was good . The buffet restaurant offers a good choice of food . Breakfast available until 10.30am ! Plenty of salads fruit and hot dishes but lacks some starter options . There were 2 a la carte restaurants open . I think 3 later in the season . Madeiran and Italian . For what is a 5 star hotel these were disappointing ,( We spoke to the hotel about this ) which is a shame . For a la carte you expect a reasonable choice of dishes . There was one choice of one starter , 3 mains and 2/3 desserts and average quality . I would say you also expect something abit over and an above compared to the buffet . If they could up their game here it would make a big difference . We had a deluxe sea view room which was very spacious and clean and had a fabulous view especially to watch the sunset Staff are superb.. welcoming , friendly and efficient . Beautiful surroundings so overall a great place to stay

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Loved the decor with lots of African artifacts and a very luxurious but homely feel. Room was very comfortable and unexpectedly had a separate lounge area. We expected a garden view, but were pleasantly surprised it also incorporated a sea view. Spa was excellent, pools lovely temperature and really enjoyed access to sea swimming. Our only complaint was that the snack/bar menu offerings were poor - very small portions and just poor quality. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Given bar food experience we didn’t try the restaurant - in any event we prefer to try the local cuisine.

This hotel was excellent. There are 1 and 2 star reviews here on TA - I do not recognise the picture in these reviews - all I can say is that the more spelling mistakes I see in a review, the less I value it. (I mean - you expect the hotel to be so perfect in every respect, the least you could do is exercise the same level of care and attention in your review. How can you expect high standards elsewhere when you don't hold yourself to the same level?) From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. The check-in was very simple and efficient. We arrived quite late, and they'd thought to have a tray of cold food sent up to our room for us. Thank you! There is an underground car-park free for guests (useful with a hire car) and whilst we were there it was not too busy at any point. The Wifi is easy to connect to and pretty fast. It did tend to drop out quite a bit when in the main bar area, but otherwise it was problem-free. The pools and areas are excellent - perhaps it would be nice to have one of the outdoor pools slightly heated - they could be cold. The little gym is fine - like most hotel gyms its not exactly a full health-club, but it allows you to keep up most of your workout routine. Restaurants - really good. The buffet for breakfast and evening meal was excellent - very well presented, maintained, and huge choice. That includes for vegetarians, with the slight caveat that it would have been nice to have vegetarian hot main meals for dinner, although with the very wide salad range, no-one is short of choice. The three special restaurants (Madeiran, Italian, and Moroccan) were also great, and although you have to book in advance, there's no limitation on how many times you can go. Vegetarians here generally have to ask, but then there are plenty of options. The staff in all the restaurants were particularly friendly and good at what they do. The room was nice, and comfortable. We had a double room with an extra bed (to make it a family room) - perhaps it was a little small for that given that it is a 5-star, but it was by no means cramped and if you were just a couple in that, then you'd be fine. The room housekeeping was good. A small criticism is that although there was a leaflet saying that soft drinks in the minibar would be replaced (for free) this wasn't done - I don't know if we needed to specifically ask. It wasn't a problem for us (or we would have asked) but it would be nice to have had that happen automatically. Point of criticism - we seemed to spend a little longer waiting for lifts than would be ideal - there seemed to be one lift out of operation although no signage to that effect, and the lifts were a little under-sized - quite cramped when more than three people were in. In many ways the experience of a hotel like this can be affected by the number of people, and while we were here, it didn't seem overly full - perfect for us but may not always be like that. We have stayed at Vida Mar since 2017 and absolutely love it! The Ocean View Buffet breakfast and dinner are really good with fantastic selection. The pools are really nice. The staff are all very friendly, especially Suzie who up till this visit was always cooking our eggs at breakfast time. She always greets EVERYONE with a happy greeting, making us all feel special ❤️ . Unfortunately (for us) this time she is only at her egg “station” for two days per week, which made us all very sad. The other members of staff serving are pleasant but she is special and an asset to the hotel. I did talk to Customer Relations who told me the management have decided that others in their “team” should learn all skills, requiring rotation of staff. I understand this but so many people know Suzi and she remembers us all. She is the highlight of our breakfasts at Vida Mar, her photo even appearing on their promotional information. Bring back Suzi!😂
