We have had the most wonderful time staying at this fabulous castle. Our room was so comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff were so friendly, kind and helpful. The food and wine were exquisite. We especially enjoyed the stunning scenery that surrounds this delightful destination. We shall most certainly return.

Stunning castle hotel and restaurant in the Tuscany hills set in approx 300 Acres of its own vineyards, olive groves, and ancient oak woodland, full of boar, deer, and so many animals, we lost count. We saw butterflies of every kind - including an “English Blue” which is so rare as to be near extinct in the uk. The Restaurant is hard to describe - as it is so good. Exquisite fine dining, coupled with relaxed and intimate atmosphere - served by friendly and knowledgeable team which really sits well with the castle and countryside, with superb attention to detail, matched with stunning quality and taste. We did a cookery course there with the 3 celebrated chefs who run the kitchen, and this was unforgettable - fun and friendly as well as informative and interesting - including making tagliatelle pasta from scratch. Everything was carefully and thoughtfully laid out, and so much to learn. We had our own creations for dinner that night, (tidied up and beautified by the chefs). The restaurant has fantastic selections of wines - but of particular note is the fact that you can have wine grown on that very estate, with Tornano Castle on the label - and the unbelievable olive oil on salads and with bread - the waiter (Alex), picked the olives for that oil himself the season before, along with one of his colleagues, and he explained how you can harvest the olives early or later in the season to get subtle differences in the flavour of the oil. Decorations in the Castle are also a delight - wall to wall antiques from the different ages across the over a thousand year history of the castle, with a dungeon / wine-tasting area, chapel, and rooftop terrace with 360 degree views of the scented hills all around. Sofas from the baroque period, Medici era tables and chairs, and every age both before and after - with curios and decorations in every nook. After dinner there is a lovely lounge with an open oak-fire scenting the room and setting the atmosphere. Bookshelves stocked with books in every language, and the staff seem to speak all the languages there are, and are so friendly! The grounds were probably my favourite part. The unhurried and timeless character of the castle sits perfectly within the tracks, paths, and wilderness in the castle grounds, and its own immaculate gardens - and you get a real feel for how the olives grow, and how the vines develop, just by seeing how they are laid out. On the ground are fragments of marble, and every type of stone. We stayed for 2 days - and wished we could stay for 2 months it is such a great place. If you’ve read this far in the review - read no further and go ahead and book a stay there!! We stayed in the Lancelot and Guinevere rooms (2 interlinked double-rooms), perfect for a family with teenage children, in the main hotel part of the castle - or you can stay in the tower, or a couple of cottages in the grounds which are amazing, one of them even has a hot tub outside, and a log burner in the lounge,

We had a wonderful stay at Castello di Tornano. The place itself was like something out of a fairytale. The staff was incredibly nice and welcoming, we enjoyed a wine tasting and an excellent dinner. The breakfast was wonderful too. The staff even organised a little birthday surprise for me, which was the sweetest! We only wished to have stayed for longer. I recommend staying at least two nights!

I loved staying int the tower. It was amazing being in a castle. Food was wonderful and pool was nice too. Most of all I enjoyed evening by fire pit meeting other foreigners.

Absolutely stunning a first class stay from start to finish! What a gorgeous property this is. Honestly it is one of the best hotels I’ve ever visited. The property and rooms are immaculate. The beds are comfortable and appointed simply. We stayed as a family in an apartment. We had a bedroom upstairs for my husband and myself and then a bedroom downstairs for our two children. Breakfast outside on the patio every morning was wonderful. The staff anticipated our needs and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We will absolutely be back!

I wish I could rate this 6 stars! Truly, my sister and I could not have had a better experience, and were so sad to leave. We stayed in the tower and it exceeded our expectations (which were quite high). Everything was beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean. The property was gorgeous and so peaceful - everywhere you went you were looking over rolling hills of vineyards and lush forests. And the FOOD! We had just come from Florence and this was better than the food we had there. The breakfast was amazing and plentiful. And of course the wine was delicious :) Last but certainly not least, everyone who worked there was tremendously kind, friendly and continuously went above and beyond - from answering my many questions via email, to helping us book a taxi. We will be recommending the Castello to anyone who plans to come to Italy! Definitely easiest to access if you have your own car, but we did not and still made it work :)

My husband and I just returned from a trip where we stayed 3 nights in the cottage at Tornano. It was outstanding. The people there are helpful and incredibly kind, the food is unreal, the grounds are breathtakingly beautiful and you have everything you could want in property. They seem to have recently invested a ton of money in the property and future of the hotel as well. I’d count myself lucky to return one day.

· Great location and views, severely let down by a lack of basic good hotel services. The staff were nice and pleasant but clearly haven't seen a hotel operating at this price level. Room and bed were comfortable but overpriced. I have stayed in the area at various hotels over the last 10 years. Disliked · Lack of hot water on first morning - sorted quickly to be fair but, reading reviews, clearly a recurring problem, although the staff seemed surprised. No offer to help with bags. No ambience (full lighting made a nice room feel like a museum) in the restaurant for evening meal. The food was fair/good. Breakfast was one of the poorest I have seen in Italy, although maybe you could say the presentation was honest. Musak at breakfast was loud and just created a bad ambience for this kind of hotel. Woken by clean laundry delivery on first night as the laundry room was next to our room and then the team were sorting laundry outside our door on morning of departure - not ideal. Our room was one of the ^cheapest^ in the hotel - but it was also right next to the breakfast room/restaurant. Sound proofing was OK but be aware if you are a late riser or like to get to bed early. Wet cushions left out on terrace seating - certainly a surprise. Cups in room were not cleaned properly when they were washed. Initially no offer of bike storage (we were there for a bicycle event) - although again sorted later by speaking to another member of the team.
