Royale Chulan Penang

I came to Penang for a happy vacation, but to my surprise, money was stolen from my hotel room. **October 2nd: Check-in at Royale Chulan Penang (Beware: Dangerous with thieves, the cleaning staff looked Indian, after my money was stolen, I realized both rooms I booked had a secret door, one had a lock, the one where the money was stolen didn't have a deadbolt mechanism)** **October 2nd: Money stolen from the room in the afternoon** Around 5:40 PM, after shopping, I returned to the hotel, put my bag in the room, and went to the second-floor pool to find my kids. I was back in my room about half an hour later. Due to the rain, we decided to dine at the hotel. The dining bill and card transaction SMS showed an order placed at the restaurant at 6:37 PM and the card swiped at 7:24 PM. It must have been stolen during this time. When I got back to the room and wanted to record my expenses, I was shocked: ✅ 250 MYR missing ✅ 800 RMB directly missing At first, I thought it was stolen outside, but the money was in two separate pockets. How could a thief accurately take a portion from each without taking everything or making a mess? The method was too 'professional'. Who could do this besides someone who had access to the room?? Immediately after discovering it, I contacted the front desk. I explicitly stated I wanted to call the police. The front desk staff just told me to call the police myself and were completely uncooperative. I went to a nearby police station (they laughed at each other when I mentioned the hotel name, suggesting that hotel often has problems). After asking a lot of questions, they told me to go to another police station to report the crime. It was a lot of back and forth, and their attitude was perfunctory. Considering I was in an unfamiliar place, and the time cost was high, the chances of recovering the money were almost zero. I also didn't have travel insurance. In the end, I had no choice but to reluctantly give up on reporting it. I'm so disappointed. The hotel takes no responsibility, and the police don't take it seriously. I feel completely unsafe when traveling. The hotel I trusted turned into a place of theft.

The hotel's location is excellent, with many attractions within walking distance. The breakfast selection is varied, and the front desk staff are proactive and helpful. However, one minor issue was that on one of our three days, our room wasn't serviced, and amenities like toiletries, drinking water, and coffee weren't refilled.
