Hotel de Flandre Ghent

The room is spacious for 2 people. Clean and well maintained. Nice location and near to bus station.

We loved this hotel! All the details from the wonderful entrance, room with an incredible view over the city and even the breakfast with all the refinement and the wonderful waffle machine present at breakfast. Also worth highlighting is the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The room is clean. The hotel is Hear the city which I great.

This hotel enjoys a wonderful location within feet of the old town. A 3 minute stroll takes you to a beautiful canal in the heart of the old city. The foyer, bar area and breakfast room are beautiful - full of character and period charm. Breakfast is good - even soy yogurts and milk alternatives were provided. Reception staff are mixed with some lacking basic hospitality skills. After a long journey you might expect a smile and a warm welcome, not rude as such but lacking charm. The rooms - I have stayed here 3 times in 3 different rooms, all of which were spacious. However, and this IS an issue for me, only a handful of rooms are in the main building. Some are in the external courtyard, worse still some are up external steps / decking (think American motel). I specified main building but they have a very liberal interpretation of this. It extends to all rooms accessed via the external courtyard. It wasn’t an issue for us as our room was 6 feet from the main door on ground level. I should also add that the room was very nice and spacious but stifflingly hot with no option to adjust the temperature. f you are on an upper deck, walking in the rain to go for breakfast may be a sticking point. The hotel also has another building (a 2 minute walk down the street) in a dark courtyard. The rooms are nice but make sure that you are aware of your accommodation. Having stayed in this part previously, I found it very annoying walking for breakfast and this area lacked the security of being in a hotel. In short, lovely location, nice hotel but do be aware of where exactly your room is situated - it could be in an external motel annex or in another building entirely. Tips : as you walk out of the hotel, turn right and right again by the Mariott and you will be by the canal. Tip 2 : there is an excellent supermarket directly opposite but it’s very easy to miss as it looks small and unassuming from the outside. Tip 3 : Tram no1 can be found directly opposite The Body Shop. It will take you to Sint Peters and very regular trains will take you to both Bruges and Brussels within 25 minutes at a cost of €10 ish per journey.

I absolutely loved this property and will stay here again. I was here 17 nights and because of the length was in a business apartment that was fully loaded. That being said, hosue keeping came by 4 days a week at random time but always when I was in my underwear with my head phones on. Lol, I dodnt mond, but Im sure I scared them enough. A do not disturb sign, specific cleaning times everyday at 11am or just coming on Monday like it said in the welcome pamphlet. I had enough towels and sheets for a week easy. Again, loved the hotel, the room, the check in staff, but that was a little annoying.

Booked two suites (based on pics), first one was 1:1, but second suite (called loft) was a disaster: dark, two floor with steep staircase and low ceiling where normal sized people hit their head, furnitures very old (not even sellable on flea markets). Luckily we could change it on standard room (but for prize of suite). Did get vouchers for the bar as kind of compensation. The bar: no guests, bar tender was guy from reception, ingredients for mocktails were not available. We (3 people) did get Bar peanuts ( one shot Glas full). Instead of light bar music the only noise came from an old refrigerator. The comfortable suite was basically ok. Windows are very old, noise from the street not avoidable. On the other side is a Supermarkt, deliveries started at 4 in the morning. Hotel is in an ancient building which is illuminated from the outside. Quite romantic but as curtains did not cover all of the windows, it was not dark at all. Located at the entrance of the old town. This was comfortable, parking lot 300m away with very fair prices (around 30€ for two days). Hotel staff was supportive and friendly even after the long discussions and the complaints from our side. But hotel was not worth for this price. Also standard room was more than old fashioned with a certain special smell.

Great hotel and nice rooms. Convenient parking 2 blocks away. Close to the tourist attractions.

Eight of us in 4 rooms stayed here for our first visit to Ghent. Having read some of the recent reviews I as a bit anxious as to how it would turn out but I can only speak as we found things. First of all, the location is just perfect. Situated on a no-through road the hotel was very quiet and access to all the main sites was brilliant. All of the rooms were very nice and our particular room on the top floor had a great view across to the spires of Ghent. Breakfast was buffet style and although nothing special, it was perfectly adequate. The staff were very friendly and helped when prompted to refill supplies (which was perhaps more frequent than it should have been). We found all of the staff very pleasant and helpful which made our stay all the more pleasant. We came in 2 cars which we parked in the Ramen car park 2-3 minutes walk away. Although quite expensive (around £12 a day) it was significantly cheaper than other car parks close by. All in all we had a lovely trip to Ghent and we will certainly return. When we do, we will be booking Hotel de Flandre again
