We had a lovely stay at Gosfield lake. The first couple nights mid-week were so peaceful as we had the whole tent-pitch area to ourselves, but it did get louder on the weekend when families arrived, which was expected. The pitch areas were good size, there was good space between tents which was nice for privacy. Most of the pitches also backed onto the lake too, which was lovely to wake up to. For the size of the campsite, and with it being busier on weekends, I think the shower/toilet block is a bit small. Only 2 family shower/toilet rooms, and 2 showers/3 toilets in the male/female rooms. It was fine when it was quiet, but you had to go early to shower on the weekend or there wouldnt be space. We also found out while there that you have to pay for wifi. It was about £10 for 7 days, and that was for 2 devices. You also can't charge anything in communal areas as all the plug sockets have caps on them, other than in the toilet block. It costs to ask reception to charge devices too. But overall, it was a lovely stay and we really enjoyed our camp. It was a great base for getting round local towns or places a bit further away - Cambridge 1 hour north or Castle Hedingham 15 mins east, would recommend going both!

Great stay at the Annexe in Gosfield. The room is essentially all you need in one including an ensuite bathroom, there is no cooker, but a microwave is provided. There was an iron and hair dryer, towels and some cereals and milk and cream.in the fridge, tea and coffee (unsure if the milk is put in there before check in or from guests before, either way it was in date and fresh). It's a self check-in and details are sent through email. I would recommend getting in contact with the owners directly rather than through any booking site. There is also parking available. In terms location, if you drive its pretty much and hour or two away from Halstead, London, Waltham Abbey, Colchester and Braintree. In terms of food, there is a restaurant by the entrance I highly recommend called "The Apple Tree" and uber delivers from Braintree or Halstead, Dominoes etc. We were there for a wedding and I have to say everything provided was exceptional. Dealt mainly with Linda, who was very helpful and friendly. Price is good too even for 2 nights, one night at Gosfield Hall cost more than two nights at the annexe. I will definitely be back as its a nice stay and getaway. Sofa bed and double bed and TV in room too. The view is great and looks out onto the lake, the Annexe is a private property that I found on *********** but the rest is mainly a campsite hence some of the reviews. Very clean and quiet with a peaceful atmosphere. The walls are a bit thin as there's two rooms (annexe is split in half) so be councious of your neighbours. I will bookmark this place and revisit again at some point as its one of the best properties ive stayed at.

The electric pitches are very small, felt ridiculously cramped in - luckily we had 2 pitches and could share some ‘middle ground’ otherwise it would have been an absolutely nightmare. No space for the kids to play up by the tents and it’s too far for them to go to the park alone. When a pitch became empty - the kids were playing and the people next to the empty pitch got funny because they wanted to park their car on it 🙄. Not the campsites fault mind. Not enough to justify the price. Yes you have the lake but you can’t go in it. A small park and swings. The price for the kids to try the water sports is ridiculous. Charging £20 for a gazebo in the UK is also ridiculous- it’s the UK it pours down, the pitches are tiny, it’s not like they’re giving more space; or giving you the gazebo to use. That said, the staff were all friendly, the facilities were clean. I guess it depends what you’re looking for. Wouldn’t return anytime soon unfortunately.
