Spark by Hilton Appleton

This place looks nothing like the photo's and is kinda a dump not to mention stains on the bed and they're idea of a glass of water is tap water

We stayed here when we went to Green Bay for a Packers game. We usually try to stay in the Appleton area as we try to hit a game once a year or so. This hotel did the job. Room was clean, bed was soft. I will agree with the other reviewers that the rooms are small. A king room was just big enough for my husband and I. It was just a place to sleep. Friendly front desk guy too.

I was charged $10.50 for “Food,” even though I did not purchase anything from the hotel. The only items I received were water and pretzels, which I understood were included with my Hilton Gold benefits. If that is what the charge was for, $10.50 is unreasonable. I also checked out earlier than expected and was charged for an additional night because I supposedly needed to provide 24 hours’ notice. I was finished with my stay and checked out by 9:00 a.m., yet I was still charged for the entire next day. I have stayed at other Hilton properties and have never experienced this. I chose Hilton because I expected better service and fewer unexpected charges than I might receive from a local hotel, but unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I would not stay here again.

This was a Microtel bought by Hilton and very recently converted into Spark by Hilton. We had 3 rooms. All were very clean. The 2 queen bed room did not allow much room to move around or to place our luggage. I can't imagine having more than 2 people in there. However, the 1 king bed room had plenty of room for 2 adults and one toddler. Hallways, stairwells, elevator, and lobby were all very clean. Friendly staff. Breakfast was fairly basic - bagels, boiled eggs, instant oatmeal, yogurt, and cereal. The desk staff took care of the breakfast area, so it was not always clean during breakfast and things would run out. However, as soon as we let them know something was out, they would refill as soon as they were available. It is a very basic hotel, but it was very clean which is top priority for me. Location is fine - in an area with lots of hotels, restaurants, and shopping. Safe location.

Stay away from this place. This is the wrong type of customer service. There are other motels in the area that are much nicer with less problems. This motel is run by the wrong type of people customer service is not a good fit.

This place is subpar at best. Dirty. Terrible hard mattress. Bathroom had dirt smeared on wall. ***** hair on the wall. No clock. No tissues. No soap for shower. The drawers under the counter were screwed shut. Light was missing a bulb. The bathroom and room door had to be slammed to get them to shut. Had to wear socks or shoes at all times as didn’t feel comfortable going barefoot. While getting coffee there was a guy in front of me with hot coffee in hand. The counter guy walked by to refill the bagels bumped the guy. Coffee everywhere! The worker didn’t say a word, nothing. I helped clean up. Our room smelled like old cigarettes and our bed and pillows felt damp when we came back to our room. Not staying here again.

Very nice, clean, friendly and economical hotel. The rooms were small (but to be expected with a name like Microtel 😊). However the rooms were very efficient, and included both a small fridge and a microwave oven. A coffee maker would have been nice, but there was plenty of coffee available in the lobby 24 hours a day. I think I was most impressed by how clean, organized and well lighted the breakfast area was, and how much there was to choose from for a free breakfast. Definitely recommend.

Don't be fooled by the photos and the overall customer rating. This is one of the worst hotels that I have ever been to. Everything is old and rundown, plastic counters with stains, mould around the ac unit, ceiling and wall repairs done unprofessionally, seat/bench cushions that are home-made using non-commercial grade materials, dirty carpet, hard rock mattress, pillows that feel like they are stuffed with pebbles (also the pillows are square shaped, which I have not ever seen before), and inedible breakfast. The walls are waffer-thin, you'll hear every thing next door and the whole room will rattle everytime a door is closed. Literally nothing deserves even an average grade. They should be reported to the health department and building code enforcement. If you don't care about all the above and just need a barebone bed to sleep, then do yourself a favor and find something cheaper because I don't think you can do much worse at a lower price point; at least you'll be saving a buck or two relative to this place. I have respiratory allergies, which I believe flared up after spending 1 night in this mold and dust infested place. I walked away from my 9- night reservation and moved to another hotel across the street. This hotel should not be allowed to operate with such low and unsanitary standards. Shame on the owners and managers!
