The Thatch House Hermanus

It would be hard to come up with a way to improve on this wonderful stay, except by staying longer! We only managed one night, on our way to Plettenberg, and we’re so glad we went a bit out of our way to make this trip to Hermanus, the coastal drive through Betty’s Bay, the excellent visit to the Stony Point penguin colony, and then this beautiful, sumptuous & restorative hotel. We stayed in the Lagoon suite, which was perfect. 5 out of 5 and then some!

Our itinerary only allowed for a one night stay at this luxurious hotel. The hotel is framed by impressive mountains to one side and a huge lagoon on the other. Both fabulous views . We were pleasantly surprised by the vast garden suite that provided a spare bedroom, a dressing room and a vast bathroom. The staff are extremely welcoming and enthusiastic to assist. We would definitely recommend this property

Stayed five nights in this small lovely quiet hotel in a great position overlooking the lagoon. Very nice and well-kept gardens, with a pool and tennis court. Staff uniformly delightful, friendly and efficient. Food very good with plenty of choice. Eating on the terrace or in the grand hall if cooler with log fires. No problem to eat in the town if desired - 10 minutes in. Decor in our mountain-facing suite rather drab, but vst bathrom and well-serviced. Thoroughly recommended.

Driving past Hermanus Town having just left the beautiful Franschoek a couple of hours earlier, I feared we may have made a mistake moving East and when 10 minutes later we turned up at the gates for the Thatch House, I was a little worried. However, from the moment we arrived and were greeted by Kim, we just fell in love with this incredible property. Just walking out to the view from the swimming pool, overlooking a mountain and then going out the back to the lagoon side, took our breath away and we could never quite make our mind up which was better. We were offered a welcome drink of our choice and even though we were an hour early, our suite (Milkwood) was ready for us and it was so much better than the photos; just HUGE, with two bedrooms, a walk-in closet/kitchenette, a stunning bathroom and our own terrace. It really was WOW all round. What set this wonderful boutique apart from others we have stayed, is the level of service and personal care and attention. A big shout-out to Ivan who always served us with the warmest of smiles and could not have done more to ensure our stay was magical and in fact, every member of staff really cared about making our stay special. We had dinner overlooking the lagoon on our second night and the tranquility coupled with the setting made the evening one we will always treasure. We were truly gutted to be leaving and I was kicking myself for not making this a longer stay. We do hope to put that right in the future!

The location is gorgeous…. A lagoon at the front and mountains at the back. There’s a beautiful pool, putting, croquet & an array of books magazines & board games. The food was excellent. Would recommend anybody visiting Hermanus to eat lunch or dinner here. The service was top notch and the rooms stunning! A heavenly place!

We stayed at The thatch House Boutique hotel and it is absolutely amazing. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. Each room has its own veranda with breathtaking views. There is a beautiful pool and tennis court. The staff made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend a stay here for a bit of luxury.

My wife and I stayed two nights at this quite luxurious property. Check-in was welcoming and our room (suite) was ready on our arrival. It was luxurious and spacious, Drinks were served inside, bar or lounge, or outside on a fab decking overlooking the lagoon - breakfast was a relaxing affair and freshly prepared. The hotel dining room is very chic, and matched by the quality of food offered. I’m sure there are some fine restaurants in town which is about 4km away but we ate at the hotel each night - lovely menu with some great small estate wines available. The hotel is easy to find and in a great location if you’re heading to Gansbaai for whale watching - the hotel kindly arranged this for us as a trip which was fun. Thoroughly recommended.

A wonderful location with extremely attentive staff. Gorgeous rooms and lobby area. Very flexible, as they provided meals upon last minute request. Provided ideas for activities and helped with booking.

An amazing location with views that inspire. Beautifully furnished dining room with huge fireplace. The service is good and the meals scrumptious. The presentation was stunning, and while not huge portions were certainly sufficient. We enjoyed the pork belly the lamb chops and the steak
