We stayed in the bensmoor suites which are lovely. The rooms were adequate we were happy with it. Only issue was the air con unit made a few rattle noises in the night. The other facilities are great, didn’t use the oven as only stayed one night but it’s a great little place, the food at the hotel was lovely in the evening, breakfast was Ok I’ve had worse but I’ve also had better. Otherwise a lovely find and we will be recommending to others.

Great food fantastic service was upgraded to honey moon sweet was beautiful great place got married in the black smiths shop the hole experience was amazing lovely people. Would highly recommend was very quiet on the evening would be better with more entertainment

Sat here writing this 30 minutes after our son has tried to go to sleep on the bunk beds in the room, the squeaking is like a swing from an 80s horror movie. The concept of the room is great, a room for the kids and a room for us, but there has clearly been no review of the stability of the bunk beds. Currently driving me insane. If you choose to come here, bring an inflatable air bed or anything so that yours kids don’t need to use the bunk beds….. The hotel otherwise is pretty good, nice and clean. There is however a broken bulb in our room, shoddy maintenance in my view. There are also at least 3 switches I cannot fathom what they do. There are no plugs by the bed for phones, but there are across the room out of reach. They did put 4 mugs etc in the room, which was great, no need to ask for extra. No fridge in room. Air con seems to be hot or cold, can’t get it in between. If it wasn’t for these stupid bunk beds it would be 4*, but if the breakfast isn’t good, I will be changing it to 2*! Genuinely furious right now how crap the quality of these bunk beds are!

Went to a wedding and family stayed here. We had an amazing time. The food was fabulous. Cocktails delicious. But the best thing about this hotel is Paul. He truly made our day. Fantastic customer service and great company. Nothing was any bother for him. Even the dressing gown. Thank you.

Smiths is a perfectly fine hotel, with helpful friendly staff, acceptably decorated rooms, which although starting to look a little worn were clean and tidy. The dining menu is again fine and the food acceptable. However the cooked breakfast buffet wasn’t particularly appetising, it in contrast the choice of fruit and cereals was very good. So why the poor rating? Unfortunately I was allocated a room to the rear of the building, on the second floor which is perfectly positioned to be level with one of the busiest stretches of Motorway in Scotland, and it’s only metres away. The relentless noise from passing HGV’s easily overcame whatever noise reduction the double glazing provided. The cacophony of diesel engines began to slacken about 1.30am only to intensify from around 4.00am… So if you’re prioritising sleep as part of your stay then don’t plan on much if you are given a room facing the motorway. At check-in I realised the position of my room and asked for a room at the front, but the receptionist was unable to help.

Had lunch with a friend. Staff were friendly but very sp****. No atmosphere at all. Restaurant was really dstk so we asked to sit in the lounge area. Meal wasn't as described on the menu. Had a chicken, bacon and salad sandwich. No mention that it was mainly a mayonnaise filling. "Asian coleslaw" was just red cabbage with a spiced vinegar. No-one came to offer us coffee or anything further to eat. Had problems finding someone to bring us the bill.

Nice hotel but starting to feel dated, the room was very comfortable and spacious but the bathroom was not cleaned properly and had a terrible sour smell, I didn't complain as wasn't staying long and the room itself was fine. I had dinner in the restaurant but the menu has changed since my last visit and wasn't as nice as previous. Shame as its a lovely hotel but needs a bit of a refresh.

Stayed at Smith’s Hotel with the Gretna Green wedding package. We were married across the road at the original marriage room. What a pleasant experience we had all round. Hotel itself was clean and well presented with very welcoming and friendly staff working for them. Felt at ease in every part of the hotel. Food was amazing too, breakfast and our 3 course reception meal was deliciously presented and it tasted as good as it looked. It made our wedding a fantastic experience Thank you so much. Well recommended. Spoil At Smiths salon an added bonus, what a fab idea! They were amazing too.

The receptionist on duty when we first arrived was not particularly welcoming, but from then on we had a really good stay. Our Ash suite was very spacious and comfortable. The bed, a super king, was really comfortable and the normal bathroom amenities were available. The double shower was excellent as was the hairdryer, which is unusual for a hotel. However, it would have needed a giant to. Sit at the dressing table to be able to see in the mirror. It had been positioned far too high. I overcame the problem by putting two cushions on the stall to sit on. The restaurant was good and the food okay. The waiting staff, particularly Lesley, were very attentive, friendly and professional in their manner. There is a spacious carpark with plenty of available parking even due the hotel’s busy period. The hotel has a few cracks in its make up…plaster off some walls by staircases, skirting boards in bathroom not cleaned properly and a very creaky lift to name but a few.
