Hotel room: 0 (zero) star Hotel location: 4 (four) stars Hotel staff services: 5 (five stars) We checked into a room on 1/25/2024 for a 6-night stay. We realized the room smelled smoke even though we requested a non-smoking room. The worst was the bathroom's strong, moldy, foul smell, which is a health hazard and unacceptable. On top of it, the in-room HVAC thermostat doesn't work, which we didn't notice until the next morning. We suffered without fresh air circulation and high room temperature all night long. The following day, thanks to the friendly, accommodating front desk staff, we could change to another room with no issues like the previous one. Even the room we changed to also has maintenance issues, such as the ceiling light above the nightstand hanging loose from the ceiling and exploding electrical wires. And the bathroom Faucet is loose, etc., unfortunately. Besides the exceptional overall staff services, the hotel is conveniently located in a local neighborhood, a perfect alternative for tourists who want to experience the truth of Guangzhou. Suppose Baiyun Hotel is positioned as an international five-star hotel. In that case, besides sustaining excellent staff services, improving room maintenance, upgrading the aging hotel, and paying attention to the details is essential. Outstanding staff service or a profound hotel history couldn't substitute necessities such as an operational thermostat or a foul smell in the bathroom. Having said that, I wouldn't consider Baiyun Hotel when we visit Guangzhou next time, nor would I recommend it to others due to my experiences with the hotel room.

Lavande Hotel (Guangzhou Zoo, Huanghuagang Metro Station)
4.6/52666 Reviews
Taojin/East Huanshi Road/Guangzhou Zoo
The hotel is near an old residential area. It's very quiet at night and you can feel the slow pace of the old town. Room facilities are pretty good. The bathroom and washroom are quite spacious, while the bedroom is relatively small. There are some breakfast categories, not too much but the taste is pretty good. Great value for money. Worth recommending for business trip

Zhejiang Hotel
4.7/5859 Reviews
Taojin/East Huanshi Road/Guangzhou Zoo
It is an old four-star hotel. The decoration is a bit old, but the hygiene is pretty good. It is managed by Radisson Hotel (most of Radisson's hotels are five-star hotels). The service attitude is very good and it responds to guests' needs in a timely manner. The breakfast is very good. During the Spring Festival, there are few restaurants outside. You can have lunch and dinner at the restaurant on the third floor of the hotel. There is also Zhejiang cuisine, which tastes good and feels basically the same as in Hangzhou. The hotel's location is convenient for transportation. It is very close to the Huanghuagang subway station and the zoo bus terminal, and the Guangzhou Zoo is right next to it. The only thing that didn't feel good was that the air conditioner only had heating. It was so hot that I couldn't sleep at night, so I had to turn off the air conditioner and open the windows to cool down. However, the flaws are not hidden. Compared with similar hotels in the same area, it is very cost-effective and deserves a 5-point rating.
Wo Fun Apartment (Guangzhou Yongfu Huanghuagang Metro Station)
3.4/570 Reviews
Taojin/East Huanshi Road/Guangzhou Zoo
The hotel decoration is quite new, the room facilities are warm, the layout is reasonable, clean and tidy, the reception desk service is good, the stay is convenient and fast, the environment is quiet, the safety is in place, there is a restaurant downstairs, there is McDonald's, 7-11 convenience store opposite, very close to the subway entrance, Huanghuagang subway exit A Exit A Just a few minutes walk to the hotel. In short, the experience is good, much better than expected.
