Pro's of staying: location; free parking if you could find a space, which at some hours could be a little hard; towels and breakfast very good. You order your bfast ahead of time and bring form to the kitchen. Breakfast is 8-10 so if you have a tour elsewhere or need to leave early...sorry, it is a hard 0800 start time. If you are 2 people, this is probably a fine place to stay - if you are coming with 3 adults...or more for one room - hmmm.... A teacher evidently owns this 6-room townhouse. I sent my information in ahead of time (first time I had to send all Passport info in ahead bc I NEVER SAW ANYONE IN HOUSE AS A GREETER other than the 2 ladies that are hired to work at bfast. Invisible Anna is another worker who sends all text communication. You will receive computer lock code to building in rooms. Fine. Let's talk about Room L - a loft room. Fine with windows open for light, but upstairs with just a bed and nightstands (no TV, no mirror, no room for a suitcase) is very dark. There are evidently 3/6 rooms can hold 3-4 people. I assume they all have the crap futon which my 6'2" son kept falling out of if he even moved slightly to left of futon. There is only 1 chair (which seat was cracked) in room so to watch the one TV, 2 of us had to sit on the edge of the futon which kept falling off. NO ONE EVER REACHED OUT or greeted us - on day of checkout I saw a *********** message from Anna asking how was our stay. There is NO MIRROR in room - so if someone is in bathroom, no mirror for make-up, etc. There is one tiny, tiny, TINY-er than European usual in toilet. No trashcan in rest of townhouse = not in communal kitchen or where you eat bfast. No fridge, but we just used the communal kitchen one. Hard pillows and only one pillow on the futon. 2 outlets in living area. NOW - the staircase. They knew we were 60 and son is almost 30, yet, Ana put us in this room with a log staircase - I will post a pic...very steep and narrow to bed. So - if you need bathroom in middle of night - bring your flashlight.

This is a gem ….we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. The included breakfast was amazing. The back garden was a delight and a respite to a busy day of sightseeing. The staff were fabulous especially our dear host whose positive attitude and bubbly personality made our stay even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful boutique hotel. Modern with old world charm. Wonderful breakfast with fresh breads, croissants, cheese and so much more. Super friendly staff ensuring you have everything you need for a great stay. Next time I’m in the area this will be where I stay.

This hotel was adorable. It's old, compact, and full of character and history. The staff was so lovely, welcoming, and helpful. The dining room and garden were very modern and inspiring and the food - notably the welcome cake - was incredible. We slept really well here (despite a little upstairs rumbling from a little one running around! Can't fault anyone for that considering how old the building is!). The location is perfect - right in the middle of things - a minute or two from everything - yet it was nice and quiet. We even walked from the train station, which was nice.

Casa do Juncal enjoys an excellent location—perfect for exploring the historic center on foot. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, adding a warm and personal touch to our stay. The back garden is a beautiful, peaceful spot to relax, and the "you choose" breakfast was truly incredible—thoughtful, delicious, and a real highlight of our visit. However, there were a few details that fell short of expectations. I had chosen our room based on photos from the website, but it had since been rearranged and repainted. The biggest issue was the lighting. As the room has no direct windows, it would have greatly benefited from better lighting design—more like what was shown in the original room photos. The bathroom renovation also felt a bit awkward. The shower door only opened inward, hitting the shower head, which made it quite clumsy to use. Additionally, the shower leaked significantly, creating a pool of water on the floor that collected in the corner. Overall, Casa do Juncal has a lot of charm and potential, and with a few adjustments, it could offer an even better guest experience.

Great little quite gem right in the centre of the historic town. PS book at least 24 hours in advance as the host has to send you a code to get in if you are arriving after 2pm.

Great location, lovely hotel. Stairs to the loft bed were a bit precarious and had some trouble opening the doorknob to my room a couple of times - but neither things that would discourage me from staying here again.
