We stayed two nights at Quamby Estate as a treat for ourselves after a driving tour of Tasmania. It couldn’t have been better. An amazingly historical country home with intriguing history beautifully decorated in period but with all the modern conveniences and service. Although we didn’t play golf they have a nine hole course if you fancy it. The room was awesome, comfortable and clean. The staff were all great. We really felt like the lord and lady of the manor in our country residence, it was a great way to end a great holiday. The food was awesome, a great selection of wines and beers and we had a great stay. We would thoroughly recommend Quamby Estate for a special place to stay for any event.

Our daughter and husband hired out the whole venue for the week-end of their wedding. A BBQ on the Friday evening before the event was a wonderful way for each of the two families to get to know each other in a relaxed and charming venue before the wedding the next afternoon. The staff were helpful and called us by name. We cold not have asked for more - 100%.

1. The Room Our room was poorly serviced. Tea and coffee and cups were not replenished, nor was this area cleaned up. A very mean amount of tea , coffee and milk were provided , so we had to chase up more supplies ourselves ( when we could find someone to ask. ) Not much supplied in the room , for example not even a box of tissues. Given only breakfast and dinner were available on site , some nice biscuits or something would have been a welcome addition , rather than a basket of junk food which had to be paid for if used. Outside our side door was a flowerpot full of cigarette butts that had spilt over the seat and the ground and had obviously been there a long time. 2. The food. This was pretty good , but a few suggestions for improvement include something healthier and more appetising than just some chips served with the steak and the breakfast “ granola “ was served with so much yoghurt it was overwhelming and wasteful . 3. This is a lovely historic building in a beautiful setting , but sadly it could be better cared for. The veranda for example was quite dirty with cob webs and detritus build up and again a large bucket of cigarette butts , which again had obviously been there a long time. We enjoyed our stay , but think at over $300 per night ( without the food ) , it could have been better catered for. To claim luxury accommodation because it is an old historic home is not sufficient. Proper service provision needs to accompany that as well.

Quamby Estate is a beautiful location and understandably a popular location for Wedding functions. The grounds are beautiful and the buildings steeped in history. The rooms were small as expected but nicely modernised. Left pretty much alone (very alone) by skeleton staff. Little things could have made a huge difference to our stay. Tips would include:- 1. Offering to help with luggage. Maybe this is an OHS issue. 2. Upgrading very dodgy Nespresso coffee and tea station and consider barista coffee. Even a Breville Barista machine in the kitchen would be a solid investment. 3. Attention to fires when people using the library areas in afternoon/evening. 4. Meals were not hot. Evening meal disappointing. Breakfast was obviously reheated as cook had left. Maybe this was a one off bad 24 hours but pretty ordinary. This was much improved on our departure morning after highlighting the issue and very kindly not charged for breakfast day before. I suspect that Quamby Estate is more focussed on weekend functions and that midweek stays are not a major part of the business plan. Hospitality is all about the personal touch. I presume Quamby Estate is going through a transitional phase compared to the stellar reviews in the past.

We had a lovely night at Quamby Estate after walking the Overland Track. A great way to unwind. The estate and homestead is beautiful and serene. The bedroom was well sized and well appointed. The common areas for lounging and dining are beautiful with amazing high ceilings. The only slight drawback was our dinner where the tuna was over-spiced. However, the other dishes were excellent. We loved being able to get up in the morning and have a hit around their surprisingly well-maintained (and quite lengthy) golf course. Thanks

Our stay was ok. Despite ordering dairy free 6 days in advance (they request you order 3 days in advance), they brought me out an entree full of dairy and then when asked they said they couldn't make that dish without dairy. So instead of asking what I would like to do as an alternative they just gave me that dish. I swapped with my partner who had ordered the Terrine which was only average.

We were there with friends who had stayed there previously with Em and Sarah as hosts and had really loved it. Em and Sarah have moved on and Chris and Jordan have taken over. They are still settling in to their roles and Chris in particular was working very hard to establish things. It is a relaxed stay however there are some systems and standards that need improvement. There is no assistance offered with your bags on arrival, which may relate to staff numbers but set the tone for this not being a luxury stay but more like a B&B than a hotel. The tour of the property was interesting and informative, explaining things like when the bar opened and selecting dinner. We turned up for drinks at the informed time on the first day and came back after 10 minutes of no service. When we came back 10 minutes later there was no ice, ice tongs or tonic as the previous party had exclusive use so things weren't where they should have been. Dinner was a mixed affair and generally sounded better than it looked or tasted. For example, the chimmichurri on the steak felt like it had cayenne rather than chilli and was mouth numbing and was left by everybody at our table. Wine knowledge and the wine list were fine and interesting Tasmanian wines predominated. The breakfasts were more consistent than dinners, included excellent home made baked beans, a full cooked breakfast and porridge. Breakfast plates were not cleared at ours or any other tables, leaving the room looking messy every day and may have been a signal to move on as quickly as possible. The same could be said of the self making coffee area which had to be sorted before it could be used on the only day I used it, where I had to fill up the Nespresso machine with water, empty the used pods, clear dirty cups to access the machine, etc. Cleaning standards for the rooms were high and we were very appreciative of the attention to detail from the cleaning staff who looked after our beautiful room well. The room was spacious, comfortable, well appointed and had really nice local toiletries. Although the property was small and we were there for three nights no one called us by name which added to the feeling of an impersonal stay. In all, we would stay here again and wish the hosts well in managing this historic property, where you will feel like you are transported to the UK or Ireland, except that the service there would generally be better.
