My friend and I booked a prepaid premium non smoking room. Our flight landed pretty late, and to be fair, the hotel was easy to find and super close to the airport. But when we finally got to room 8133 after midnight, we were hit with this overpowering mix of mold and stale cigarette smoke.it literally made us gag and cough.
I called the front desk asking to switch rooms. The receptionist said she’d check, but after waiting a few minutes, the line just disconnected. Nobody called me back, so I had to call them again. Then she told me there was a room on the 4th floor I could look at. After another long wait, a young guy rode up on a scooter to show me the room. When I was waiting in the room, I even spotted a used tissue lying on the floor in a the room, which made me worry even more about the cleanliness here.
My friend stayed behind in our original room while I went with the kid to check out the new one. He took off on his scooter so fast that I basically had to jog just to keep up. The new room didn't really smell, but it was definitely a downgrade, and the air conditioner was super noisy even on the lowest setting. By then it was already 1:40 AM and we just wanted to go to sleep, so we decided to take it. But then the guy tells me he’s leaving! Since I didn't have a 4th-floor keycard to use the elevator, he was just gonna leave me standing there alone to wait for the front desk to bring a new keycard, after which I’d have to go back up to the 8th floor by myself to grab our luggage. I was completely mind-blown. I asked why he couldn't just come upstairs with me to the 8th while my friend and I grabbed our bags and take us to the 4th . He agreed, but then sped off ahead of me on his scooter again.
And sure enough, after we went up and came back down, it took about 30 minutes for a delivery robot to finally bring us the new keycard so we could finally crash. The very first thing I’m doing when I wake up tomorrow is canceling the booking I made here for our return trip.
