Hotel Villa Hakuba by Hhg

This is more like a hostel than a hotel. They market themselves as a luxury hotel so I had a shock when I arrived. The room lack basic amenities like a safe to store valuables. They provide only 1 room key for a big group of 6 travelers. The staff try to help if you push them but for the most part they act like interns/junior staff who need to be pushed for basic service. There is no service after 7pm because the front desk is off-duty. As for the ski in-ski out, it is only a ski in-ski out if the Sakka lift is open which depends on the weather/level of snow. Otherwise it is a short drive to the nearest mountains. If you are ok to do everything diy, this is a ok accommodation but I have stayed at hostels/airbnb that are way better. One of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.

I paid 170,000 jpy per night for this 4 bedroom hotel which is more like a hostel. The room is so old , dark, toilet small like a cubicle and not even offer you a washing machine or coffee machine. There is only 1 washing machine in the dry room which is more like a humid room. Small and packed with skis , jackets and a big mess. Staff is okay but helpness. I came back one night at 11pm and found out the door is locked. Reception closed at 7pm! And i called for help from nearby hotel and managed to find a nice guy from Koharu hotel and he helped me to call someone and get me the door access code. The hotel gave you a paper when you checked in and expect you to read everything without highlighting the reception closed at 7pm and you need an access code. I will say this hotel is the worst i have ever stayed in hakuba and i have been visitng this resort for more than 20 years!
