Pros: Professional staff, large and clean room with all expected necessities, excellent view to the bay Cons: TV not up to a 5-star hotel, quite noisy until midnight due to the rave music from the beach.

I have to say that I was very disappointed with my stay at the ‘five-star’ Royal Halong. We stayed at the ‘deluxe’ villas. Let’s first talk about the state of the property. It isn’t good. There was mould on some of the walls. The buildings looked degraded like they hadn’t been cared for for many years. Definitely far away from their peak. The staff were lacking. Computer says no was the mentality of most. English is also very limited. Though some, like the cleaners, we’re friendlier. Little things like being told we weren’t allowed clean towels. Even exchanging our old ones. Guests are only allowed one each per day. This is a ‘five-star’ hotel remember. I’ve had clean towels given with pleasure at two star hotels. Though the worst thing was that the advert is basically a lie. Those staying in the villas don’t have access to most of the facilities. We couldn’t use the spa, indoor pool, gym etc etc. This wasn’t stated at all until we checked in. We were very disappointed by this. There were however some good things. The breakfast buffet was decent. The location is quite good. The grounds are nice. The outdoor pool is quite big and suitable for swimming (if not quite as clean as we would have liked). Definitely the worst hotel of our stay in Vietnam. You could do worse, but you could do a lot better.

This is an older hotel, but the rooms and facilities are well-maintained. The Chinese staff are easy to communicate with, and the breakfast is decent. **Food used to be free, but now it's not, you have to pay. This is a bit exaggerated.
