This hotel appears to be new so I'm going to be kind! I arrived after dark and parked (for free) in the hotel's underground garage. I noticed there was a security guard sitting on a chair. I asked why the hotel needs a security guard in the garage and he said there is a problem with homeless people. Having already checked-in on the app, I took the elevator directly to my room, only to discover that the digital key did not work. I went down to the lobby and saw no one behind the counter (or anywhere else). I stood in the empty lobby for about 5 minutes before finally venturing down a hallway and finding a woman sitting in an office. Once I was finally able to get in my room, I was initially pleased with what I saw -- until I looked in the bathroom and saw a used face cloth on the soap tray in the shower. Gross. There were no clean face cloths in the bathroom and only one hand towel and one bath towel (suggesting that whoever had cleaned the room had not bothered to replenish the towels). Since there were only six other cars in the parking garage when I arrived, I figured there were not many people staying in the hotel -- and, indeed, I heard no one else on my floor and saw no one else in the elevators. In the (free) breakfast room in the morning, I saw no one else (except a colleague who was staying in another room). In terms of location, the hotel is within walking distance to many restaurants, bars and take-out places -- but downtown Hamilton seems a bit moribund and sketchy at night. I didn't feel particularly safe walking alone after dark in the neighbourhood around the hotel. My assessment is that this could one day be a good hotel despite its location.

Hamilton - Downtown

This was an interesting experience. I was not familiar with the longer-term-stay hotel format, and when I first arrived here I described the aesthetic as ”simple yet stately.” It was indeed a full suite, complete with dishwasher and kitchen, as well as small complimentary meals served downstairs. There was a decent workspace and nice bathroom but, typically for these times of decline, no robe. There was OK coffee in the room, but, notably, on my way out I realized that coffee could be had in the serving area downstairs. I enjoyed this coffee more than that in the room, and the disposable cup's design was striking -- I thought about it a lot as I checked out, and I also took some pictures of it (one of which I will attach here).

Visitor's Inn

I thought this place was a little pricey for what it was -- i.e. standard Comfort Inn fare, lodged between two highways, etc. The pool on the main floor looked nice and above and beyond what one would expect from this kind of place, but I couldn't use it because, well, Covid. My room was also a non-smoking room, but unfortunately there was a major stoner staying somewhere around me and the smell kept wafting into my room, including in the middle of the night. No robe either, but, come to think of it, the TV was really nice. Often when I arrive at temporary lodgings or else am transitioning into the evening part of the day, I enjoy watching a little CNN. My viewing experience this time around was excellent -- easy-to-use remote control, Chris Cuomo's head was very detailed and lifelike, etc. All around a mixed bag, just like life.
Homewood Suites by Hilton Hamilton

We stayed at the Homewood Suites for 4 days, the location was downtown and in a quiet area, the hotel staff was welcoming, the complimentary breakfast was tasty, abundant and had variety. The Gym is open 24-7, the pool was a blast, the parking is very good for a downtown hotel. We had a problem with our fridge the last two days and we only realized it on the last day, the hotel send a repair man within 5 minutes and he validated the fact that it was probably not working for the last two days. The hotel gave us the last two nights for free. Any hotel can have problems, it is the way they treat their guests and validate their concerns what matters. I am definitely staying again.
Sheraton Hamilton Hotel
4.1/5109 Reviews
A mainstay in the city; the towering jewel in Hamilton's craggy crown of flatlands and factories. Although somewhat stripped down due to COVID and the march of the years, this Sheraton cannot be beat when it comes to location. It's lodged in a complex that includes the Art Gallery of Hamilton as well as the glittering glamour of Jackson Square, that ever-shuddering heart of the living city. It's always great to spend an evening here, although, as usual, I wish they provided a robe!
