This traditional building is a bit tired inside but I get the impression it’s a work in progress under this management. It’s a great location for walks. The staff here are very friendly. Good music in bar area with good drinks and fire place. The food was great, especially dinner. Breakfast was a decent spread. Room was comfortable. We’ll stay again.

Really enjoyed our overnight stay. The staff were really friendly. We had an evening meal. Large portion and well cooked. The bed was comfortable so we had a good night's sleep. The village is a good place to tour from. Would definately stay again

Popped in with friends for some food after a walk to Milldale and back. Very welcoming as we entered and we had a lovely table in the restaurant. Food was excellent and quickly served. The vegan pie was tremendous. Beer was excellent too. All reasonably priced. Look forward to returning.

Had a lovely Sunday roast on Easter Sunday evening. Pork was beautifully tender. Service was very friendly at the end of what was clearly a busy day. Understand is under new management. We decided to ignore some of the recent negative reviews and give it a chance - very glad we did.

Just returned following excellent 2 nights which was for 55th wedding anniversary, All staff were extremely good,particularly Jenny who went to great lengths to make sure our stay was memorable. We are most grateful to her. The weather was very cold but we made use of the nearby bus stop with a good service to Buxton and Ashbourne. Will visit again in warmer weather.

Very friendly landlord and landlady, very welcoming. We did not stay at the hotel but we visited the bar for two nights and we was made very welcome. It was very homely with a log burner also a restaurant. Other customers told me they had eaten there and food was really good. The area is just great for wonderful walks and having time out to chill. We loved the gift shop and the cheese shop.

Don’t book through Wowcher or any other sites.Hotel cancels your stay with no explanation or compensation. Was a gift for a 60th birthday which was very disappointing.Thankfully booked with another hotel in the area . Don’t book through Wowcher or Groupon.

We absolutely loved staying here and really want to stay again in May. The staff are welcoming and enthusiastic about their work. The bar has an excellent selection of real ales and gins and the food is mostly homemade and lovely. We stayed in room 10 and it was cosy . The bed was so comfortable and we both slept soundly. Breakfast was superb and the bacon and sausages are locally sourced. Walks are pretty much on the doorstep so the car can remain in the large pub car park.

Extremely cold room upon arrival and took a while to heat up. 1 small radiator in the bedroom and 1 small radiator in the bathroom and on an extremely cold sub zero snowy weekend in December, these were inadequate to heat up the room to a comfortable level. I was part of a group who had a group dinner, which was poor and the dining room was cold. I wouldn't stay again; it was expensive for what it was.
