Grand Lux Boutique Manor

The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, beautifully designed, and we truly loved our stay. The atmosphere, rooms, and overall aesthetic are exceptional, and in many ways the experience was very enjoyable. However, we were disappointed and surprised by the policy requiring guests to leave the lobby and public areas immediately after check-out, with the mention of an additional fee otherwise. This felt a bit strict and unexpected and slightly took away from the otherwise warm experience. Unfortunately, the interaction with the manager (who worked in the morning 27.01.26) in this situation felt uncomfortable and poorly handled. Also, our car was well parked in front of the hotel in a shadow, we asked to keep it there for another hour — the manager agreed but asked us to move the car, so we ended up leaving a car under a strong sun, and when we came back we realized that there was no guests in the hotel, who would occupy the space, and the shadow area was free and empty. Unfortunately, the manager didn’t let us keep the luggage inside the hotel so we had to leave it in the car under the sun, including all the food we had. This felt quite unreasonable and unwelcoming, especially for a hotel of this level. Despite this, the hotel is beautiful and the stay was overall a good experience.

We had an amazing stay at the grand Lux. The hotel is tranquil and elegant and the staff go out of their way to make sure you enjoy every minute of your stay. From the manager Janisch to Thambi and Albert and also Thandi. All made our stay amazing and I would definitely go back.

This place is REALLY impressive! The luxury is very abundant...perhaps even maybe too much if that makes any sense. The fittings and furniture is all of the highest standard. The place is spotless and the staff very helpful and friendly although a bit stiff at times...perhaps they should lighten up a bit and laugh now and again. Would I go back? If I can afford it again, yes!

The best boutique hotel we stayed in. The views of Walker Bay from our suite were superb. The staff were absolutely amazing especially Janisch. The hotel was spotless. The decor was stunning. The suites were very spacious. The breakfast menu was quite extensive and all our requests were met. Best place to stay in Hermanus. 20 minutes walking distance to the centre of town.

The Grand Lux Boutique was an excellent experience. We stayed 3 nights, in a sumptuous room. I was a little concerned about some of the negative reviews, but these seem to be several years out of date - I believe the hotel was refurbished a year or so ago. The staff were very pleasant. The hotel was being run by Janisha, who was unfailingly helpful in recommending restaurants, making bookings, calling taxis for us and suggesting where to go: she really added to the experience. As to the hotel itself, it is difficult to describe it in a few words. It is a mixture of totally up to date modern and antiques and history: take care or you will bump into a bronze statue! It is an eclectic, some might say eccentric, mixture of new and old, a personal interior design project for the owner (who also has a safari lodge): conventionally it should not work, but it does! If you want chic ultra-modern minimalism, this is not for you, but if you like somewhere quirky, friendly and very unusual as well as being top drawer quality, you could do worse than give this a try. As to location, it is on the clifftop path about 20 minutes' easy walk from the town and its wonderful restaurants, or an inexpensive taxi in the evenings. It was not whale season, but during the SA winter months, there could be fantastic views from the hotel itself - they even have a spotting scope set up for guests to use. If we do come back to Hermanus for the whales, this is where we will stay.

Unfortunately my wife was ill and was unable to travel. I reached out to the hotel directly to explain that as my wife was having a major operation and having an unfit to travel document we would very much like to rebook at a later date . However the hotel showed no empathy or sympathy and refused our request . Money is there only consideration putting their own financial gain and profit before a woman undergoing cancer treatment! I will add the only hotel along the garden route that has shown such a shameful attitude. Way goes around comes around !

The owners of this hotel need to give some thought as to what makes a client happy. Our room was very spacious with a lovely view. That is where the compliments end. In extreme wind we had to walk outside to get into our room, despite there being a door inside the hotel leading directly into our suite. We were told by the manager that the door was “ for the staff’s use only to service the room”. The same applied to getting to breakfast. We had to walk outside in the howling wind, through a door that was very difficult to open, only to discover the manager had walked through the house via the kitchen, wind free. There were workmen on a Sunday morning painting around the pool. I decided as it was windy I would use the gym, only to discover a painter inside there too and, as a result, the room had such strong paint fumes it was unusable. There was no cappuccino or lattes available at breakfast, no none dairy options either. On the table there was only cheap table salt, no course salt. The shower had no hand rail or seat and the bath had nowhere to place shampoo or soap. No wonder we had to sign an indemnity at check in. And the hotel is not cheap. With a great location and some sweet staff who serviced our room, it will be a pity if these issues are not resolved. We packed up and left early. Did not see one other guest there. Not surprised.
