Reviews of Tobaya Ryokan

Sweet old ryokan, run by very kind family. The location was great for easy access to Town and the Castle grounds. Very nice and clean bath. Even though we have a very restricted diet, they went out of their way to make us a very sumptuous and special breakfast. And then kindly drop us off at the station when we needed to be there.

Nice place, hospitable and with care for the guests.

The inn had the feel of a long-established inn, with warm service and consideration, and I would like to visit again someday.

Although we stayed on a weekday after Golden Week, we were given a surprisingly spacious room, which allowed us to relax at our leisure. The bath was for private use, and the tub was large and the facilities were impeccable. The building is old but charming, and parking was free. This is an inn that offers great value for money and is one that I would confidently recommend to my acquaintances, as one that I would like to visit again.

The room was a bit old. The air conditioner runs smoothly and everything from the condition of the walls. But it has more of a ryokan feel, so it's a good place to stay unless you're going to stay for a long time. The owner is very friendly and the location is a bit far, but it's walkable so it's worth coming if you want to feel like a cheap ryokan.

건축된지 170년이 넘었다고하는데 깨끗하게 잘관리되고 있었으며 주위 거리가 전통건축물보존지구여서 옛스러운 일본분위기를 특히 좋아하는 저에게는 더욱 좋았습니다.

It was such a nice stay at Tobaya Ryokan. The ryokan is a bit of a walk from the Hikone station, but you can get a taxi from the station. There's a 7-11 nearby and a grocery store a few minutes walk from the location. The Hikone Castle is about 15-20 minutes walk. The place was well maintained and the room is clean and very spacious. They have a shared onsen bath, but I still have to wait for people to finish their bath, so if there are a lot of people, the line can get long. When booking, you have the option to get the breakfast (and dinner, if I'm not mistaken). I opted out of the meals since I was out very early in the morning. The ryokan's owners are very nice and accommodating. Language wasn't much of an issue since we communicated via translator. And they were kind enough to drive me back to the station after check out. Definitely recommended if you plan to spend a night or two in Hikone. Just take note of the distance from the station, especially if you have a luggage.
