The TL;DR is that you want to avoid rooms facing the front of the hotel, especially rooms ending in x24, although rooms ending in even numbers from x20 through x36 should also be viewed with suspicion. The road in front of the hotel curves in a way that any traffic like sonic booms are hitting the hotel. The hotel is located in a mixed use neighborhood with industrial parks, strip malls, high power lines, and apartments. It doesn't get a ton of traffic at night but even the occasional car somehow sounds very loud. Got a room change on my second night. Despite staying during COVID in a nearly empty hotel, I was told the only other available room was on the first floor. I think it was 109. It overlooked the carport. The view wasn't much to look at but it was much quieter. I tend to like Alofts and chose between this location and the one near the Portland Airport. I chose to avoid the latter. Portland has had some post-election rioting with store windows in the downtown area that were not boarded up having been broken this week. The Portland Airport location is in an upscale strip mall that seemed like a magnet for looters. I was renting a car that I didn't want damaged. Sonic booms aside, I guess I liked the layout of the hotel. There is parking in back of the hotel. There is a back door to enter from the parking lot and when checking in, you can have the front desk open that door for you by picking up the phone next to the door. The room was typical Aloft. Clean. Great bed and pillows. However, no bottled water was provided. Short drive to fast food and stores like Barnes and Noble and Nordies Rack. You can probably walk to the local Whole Foods from the property. There are other area hotels. When things settle down politically, I would probably choose to stay in Downtown Portland. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent suburban area with plenty of amenities. I just didn't really enjoy my stay in this hotel.

When we arrived at 7.30pm following a very long, stressful journey we could not see any staff. After waiting 5 minutes I went to the laundry and found a member of staff and asked if anyone was working on reception, she said she would go and find someone. Eventually a receptionist arrived , no apology for keeping us waiting and grumpily said ID, when I handed it over she said “oh good” in a sarcastic way. She proceeded to ask us why we were visiting the area and after explaining we were touring round she said (in a very uninterested way) “oh interesting”. She then told us about the daily evening reception that we could enjoy but this finished on a Wednesday (the day we arrived) and she said oh well maybe next time. The room had a very strange lay out. You had just about enough room to walk between the bed & TV. Every morning the room and corridor was filled with the smell of food being cooked (we were on the 4th floor). The smell was the same every day so it couldn’t have been coming from a room. As this hotel is in the IHG family and we had stayed in a couple of these already on the trip and had received a daily cleaning service we had assumed we would get the same here. After being out for the day we returned to find that our room had not been serviced. I went to reception and spoke to the same person that had checked us in. She asked if we had read the notice at reception (to explain what cleaning we would receive), I said no, where is the notice and she couldn’t find one! She then asked what service we had been receiving at other hotels and I explained that as they are in the same family we would assume it would be the same. She then told us they only clean every 5 days but she would give us some fresh towels. Breakfast was unsatisfactory. They serve until 9am on a weekday. We went down at 8.30am the first day to find cold coffee, no yoghurt, no fruit, virtually no cereal and no staff to ask. After that we sorted our own breakfast. To rub salt into the wound when we got home we found that they have debited our credit card around $500! This stay was prepaid, we did not incur any incidental charges and we have had no invoice from the hotel to explain what these erroneous charges were for. The case is now with our credit card company. It seems a shame as the hotel itself is quite nice but obviously poorly managed.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Hillsboro, Oregon

It's all because of Mary. We have stayed hundreds and hundreds of nights at various Embassy Suites and Hilton Properties in the past 40 years (Including living in the Washington Square Tigard, OR Embassy Suites for 5.5 months in 2005 while our house was being built). Never, and I do mean never, have we run into such an amazing, caring, thoughtful, professional, organized, thorough, and delightfully charming Front Desk hostess as Mary. In all honesty I would suggest giving her a raise in the hopes of never losing her. Yes...she is THAT good! Mary is a Superstar with a capital S! However I will say Adriana that works the breakfast detail is also quite sweet and is an amazingly hard worker. Also shout out to Gisele at the front desk who salvaged my 27th anniversary dinner by arranging a shower across the parking lot at your sister hotel The Hampton Inn on Jan.25 when the water went out the first time. But our whole experience comes down to one incredible, lovely, and most engaging lady...Mary. Yes indeed, ”There is something about Mary!”

It was a very convenient place close to restaurants and supermarkets. Easy access to downtown and zoo by light rail from the station. downtown is a bit of a security concern. The area was very beautiful and the rabbits were wandering around the hotel. Hotel breakfast feels the same every day Bread was served differently on a daily basis. The yogurt was also delicious. The room was clean and spacious 々 comfortable, but I was a little worried about the sound next door. The front desk of the hotel was helpful and nice because it corresponds 24 hours. Check out early in the morning and go to the airport by Uber. I booked at 5 am the day before and it was $72.

Room is spacious and clean. Front desk staff, Elizabeth, who is also Assistant GM, is very helpful and super kind. She tries to accommodate all our requests. Location is nice, near shopping center. Breakfast is very nice - per order at Bistro and not buffet style.

We chose this hotel for a recent two-night stay because of its handy location. Upon checking in, everything seemed alright. The desk attendant gave us a bit of paper to put on our car dash to protect us from towing. When we checked the room (following a very late check-in), we noticed dark red stains on the bed cover. We flipped it over and turned in. The next day, we found crusty white stains on the main chair in the room, so we decided to avoid that bit of furniture. Then when using the shower, there were multiple dark hairs stuck to the shower walls. Again, without feeling it necessary to make a fuss, we just rinsed them away. The next weird thing was the pathetically weak hairdryer. Why offer one when it's more use to waft a bit of toilet paper over your head?! On top of that, the main light and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. At the end of the stay we'd absolutely had enough of this hotel. It was very lame, and pushed cheapness to the limit. When we got home, we saw that we'd sneakily been charged $10 a day to use their carpark! It's a nasty place to stay, and very poorly run. Stay away.

Wasn't full to capacity which meant a better selection of requested room type (we like top floor and not by elevator, and received that). Really like the area away from the city centre, more business/industrial here, but still some amenities close by like a Whole foods just a few km away. Starbucks not far for a quick breakfast. Good location, easy to hop on the highway. Only 20 min to downtown. Seems like staffing issues like all service industries these days. But room was good, quiet area, decent bed (comfort). Usual small microwave/fridge. I booked via priceline to get a bit better price and used their 'price breakers' where they give you one of 3 hotels for same price. I was hoping for the other two only because they were suites and had kitchens, but got this one so at first I was a bit disappointed but overall happy as it was newer, modern and cleaner. Restaurant closed down, no breakfast. Pleased with it overall.
