Really satisfied with the stay. Home hotel is furnished with sophisticated design and pleasant experience to do for staycations. One of the best options i would say, pink decorations make so fancy and modern design. They also got the bar at M level, well-thought for customers to feel relax when you visit their bar. We will be back again if we visit to HCMC.

We booked a room at Tropical House and were very disappointed when we arrived. The room was very different in condition from the one we looked at in the photographs at the time of booking. The furniture in the room was old, broken, the bed linen was stale, the towels had holes. We immediately went to the reception to cancel our reservation, but they refused to do so. They gave us the phone number of the hotel owner and told us to resolve the issue with her. But she also refused to give us a refund and asked us to stay in the room, and the next day she promised to put us in a better room. The next day the room was indeed a little better, but there was still an unpleasant aftertaste from the way the guests were treated. In addition, the room was not cheap - we paid about 20 dollars per night. We hope that in the future Tropical House will not provide guests with rooms with broken furniture or towels with holes. I would like to note that trip.com was very sympathetic to us and compensated us for part of the unpleasant experience with coins, for which we are very grateful to them!

The service was great: the porters were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast crew served with a smile. The location was prime, in the middle of all the action. Hotel was clean and the room service and daily cleaning was excellent. Only thing is the shower and tap lacked pressure and toilet was difficult to flush. There is a nice cat cafe nearby

The City View Hotel Saigon is a decent option for travelers who prioritize location over luxury. The hotel's central location earned it a perfect score for location, with easy access to nearby attractions and public transportation. However, the service and amenities were lacking, with a 3/5 rating for both categories. While the staff were friendly enough, they were not particularly attentive or helpful beyond the basics. The cleaning was also average, with some minor areas for improvement. The amenities were limited, with no standout features or extras to enhance the guest experience. Overall, the City View Hotel Saigon is a good option for budget-conscious travelers who want a convenient location, but don't expect top-notch service or amenities.

The room is very nice and clean, very classy, and chill. Reasonable price, convenient location near the markets and entertainment areas of District 1, cheap price, free use of services such as laundry, detergent, fabric softener, branded, not the cheap ones that most other hotels often use for cheap. The shampoo and shower gel are good branded ones.

To be honest, this hotel is pretty good, the facilities are good, the soundproofing is also very good, the room is a bit small, and the socket is not good, the German standard conversion plug cannot be inserted. . . There are also few sockets, so you must turn off the refrigerator if you want to use the computer. Very troublesome. But overall it is still very good, the front desk is also very polite, although not Chinese, but English is okay😁

We used it as a base for transit sightseeing. As the name suggests, it's relatively close to the airport, but it's not far enough to walk with large luggage and the pedestrian path to the airport isn't well-developed, so I think I'll have to take a taxi. think. It seems like you can arrange a taxi at the front desk, but when I used it, it was cheaper to use the ride-hailing app Grab. The room was larger and cleaner than I expected, and I was able to watch Japanese broadcasts on the TV. The toilets and bathrooms are made of frosted glass so that their silhouettes can be seen from the living space, so you may need to consider privacy when using the room with a group of the same sex. There are many convenience stores and restaurants nearby, so I don't think you will have any trouble finding food.

Ho Chi Minh City Travel Guide: Best Things to do & Tips

Ho Chi Minh City Travel guide

Let me introduce you to Saigon (yep, that's what the locals still call it)! It's Vietnam's biggest city with 9 million people spread across 24 districts. I moved here two years ago and fell in love with its beauty - you'll find gorgeous French buildings from the 1900s right next to shiny new skyscrapers like Landmark 81.

The center of HCMC is District 1, with amazing food spots (try Pho Hoa on Pasteur Street!), cool rooftop bars, and markets selling everything imaginable. Also venture out to places like Cho Lon (Chinatown) or the trendy Thao Dien area, and you'll discover a totally different side of the city. You can eat like a king for $3, or splurge on fancy cocktails at the top of Bitexco Tower - this city fits any budget!

Getting To & Around Ho Chi Minh City

Tan Son Nhat Airport (TSN) is right in the city - it's just 7km from downtown. Grab a Mai Linh taxi (green) or Vinasun (white) from the official taxi stand - it's about 150,000 VND (~$6) to District 1.

Pro tip: skip the airport Grab pickup point (crazy queues) and walk 3 minutes to the regular pickup area instead. Or take Bus 109 (20,000 VND/~$0.80) - it runs every 15-20 mins to Pham Ngu Lao area.

If you’re catching a red-eye flight or arriving late, staying near the airport with shuttle services is a great option. Here are two excellent hotels to consider:

Hotel NameDistance from Tan Son Nhat International AirportService Info
Ibis Saigon Airport5 minutes by carFree airport pick-up; Outdoor swimming pool; Restaurant; 24-hour front desk; Gym
M Village CMT810 minutes by carAirport pick-up (additional charge); Stylish rooms; Lush garden; Cozy coworking spaces

Getting around is super cheap and easy. Grab bike is my go-to (15,000-30,000 VND/~$0.60-1.20 for most trips). Regular Grab cars cost 50,000-80,000 VND (~$2-3) for typical city rides. The new Metro Line 1 just opened - it runs from Ben Thanh to Suoi Tien (15,000 VND/~$0.60), perfect if you're heading northeast. Buses are dirt cheap (7,000 VND/~$0.30) but can be tricky to figure out.

Best Areas to Stay in Ho Chi Minh City

Best Areas to Stay in Ho Chi Minh City

  • District 1 - City Center This is where most first-timers stay, and honestly, it makes sense. You're walking distance from Ben Thanh Market, Notre Dame Cathedral, and that famous Post Office. Tons of rooftop bars, street food in Bui Vien, and easy access everywhere. I love the area around Nguyen Hue Walking Street - it's lively but not too crazy. Everything's walkable, and you're 25 mins from the airport.
  • Thao Dien (District 2) This is the expat haven, about 6km from downtown. It's quieter, with cool cafes, craft beer spots, and amazing restaurants along the river. The new Metro connects you to District 1 in 15 mins, or it's a 70,000 VND (~$3) Grab ride. Great if you want a more chilled vibe but still close to everything. About 30-35 mins to the airport.
  • District 3 My personal favorite - it's like District 1's cooler cousin. Just 2km from the center but way more local. You've got incredible street food, beautiful colonial buildings, and the best coffee shops in the city. It's cheaper than D1 but just as convenient. The famous War Remnants Museum is here, and you're still only 20 mins from the airport. Perfect mix of tourist ease and local life.

Things to Do in Ho Chi Minh City

Picture this: You're sipping Vietnamese coffee in a cozy cafe inside a 100-year-old apartment, watching motorbikes zip past French colonial buildings while skyscrapers loom overhead. That's Saigon for you! After living here for two years, I'm still discovering amazing spots and exciting things to do - let me share my favorites with you!

Saigon Central Post Office The Post Office looks like a train station from 1890s Paris, but step inside and it's still a working post office. The ceiling is gorgeous, and there's this sweet old man who's been writing letters for people for over 30 years.

Things to Do in Ho Chi Minh City

Ben Thanh Market & Night Market This is Saigon in a nutshell! During the day, Ben Thanh is this maze of stalls selling everything from coffee beans to silk dresses. Yes, it's touristy, and yes, you need to bargain HARD (start at 50% of their first price), but it's such a fun experience. The real magic happens at 6pm when the night market opens outside - the streets turn into food heaven. Try the fresh spring rolls at the corner stall near the roundabout - the lady there has been making them for 20 years and they're incredible. Bring cash and come hungry!

GGuest UserI recently stayed at this hotel, and I have to say, the experience was extremely disappointing. Upon check-in, I wasn't informed about the hotel facilities or the breakfast hours and location. I also wasn’t given any guidance on how to get to the elevator. Beyond the bellboy service (where tipping was expected), the staff was not proactive at all in assisting with anything. I was especially shocked when I saw an elderly person get trapped by the elevator doors, and two bellboys standing by without helping. On New Year’s Eve, I was looking forward to watching the fireworks over the Saigon River from my room, but the hotel’s own fireworks were so smoky that I couldn't see anything through my window (I was on the 10th floor!). The whole fireworks experience was ruined, and to make matters worse, the loud music continued for another hour, disturbing my sleep. The breakfast experience was just as frustrating. Because I wasn't told where to eat the previous day, I accidentally went to a temporary dining room, which had no staff who spoke English, making it difficult to ask any questions. The food choices were extremely limited, and I was surprised to find no milk or basic breakfast items available. The food quality was far below the standards expected from a 5-star hotel. After some searching, I discovered the actual breakfast restaurant was downstairs, and the restaurant supervisor instructed me to carry my tray downstairs myself. This felt extremely inconvenient and unnecessary, and once I was downstairs, I was told to wait outside for a table to become available. Standing outside with two trays of food in my hands felt humiliating, especially in a 5-star hotel. The downstairs restaurant did offer more variety, including smoked salmon, cured ham, and waffles, but by the time I made it down, I had already eaten most of my breakfast, so I didn’t get to fully enjoy it. Finally, when I went to pick up my luggage from the front desk, I was asked to search through a pile of luggage to find my own. I asked how I was supposed to identify it in such a pile, and even if I could, I couldn’t move all the luggage around by myself. This was not only inconvenient but also frustrating. Overall, I can only give this hotel 2 stars. One star for the hotel’s physical facilities, and the other because the review form doesn't allow for a zero-star rating. Otherwise, I would have rated it even lower. This stay was a huge letdown and didn’t come close to the 5-star experience I was expecting. Both the service and the amenities were severely lacking. I hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously and improves for future guests.

EErickI stayed 3 nights at the Ramana Saigon hotel. Good location with easy walks through that part of the city if you do not mind pollution and a lot of traffic (mostly motorbikes). I loved discovering the city with its hectic and very lively environment. The hotel is next to district one. The railway station is a 10 to 15 minutes walk away. Plenty of eateries around and convenience shops next to the hotel. The staff at the reception were very welcoming and helpful. True professionals. That was also the case of security and those in charge of the rooms. I mentioned a very noisy service door next to my room and the issue was fixed immediately. Now I was not too impressed by the service and the attention at the restaurant during breakfast. Too busy with the many tour groups keeping the restaurant fully busy (and noisy) from 6 AM to 9 AM (seating: almost 300 people) then a bit quieter until closing time at 9:30 AM. Today I ate breakfast a bit later than usual at 8:45 and noticed that tables were not cleaned after guests left. Items were removed but nothing more resulting in empty tables with dirty table sets and no more forks, knives, etc... The food at the restaurant is for the masses. No real options for people with diabetes for example as pretty much all items are on the sweet or very sweet side. Including cooked vegetables (sugar and fat). 3 different salads to choose from but no simple dressing with just vinegar and oil. They care for the many Indian guests with a few vegetarian options but ... I tried and ... my glucometer did not appreciate and hit the red zone :( The rooms are old fashioned but nice and well maintained. The bed was comfortable. Not hard as is rather usual in Asia. The noise insulation is on the poor side. The air conditioning system is rather loud. There is a well sized fridge in the room and plenty of space :) The swimming pool on the 5th floor (outdoor) is small but nice and there are a few lounge chairs to relax. It was not busy when I was there in the early afternoon but I guess I was lucky ;-) The guests at the hotel are overwhelmingly tourists traveling in big groups. Mainly Indians and Chinese but also some Westerners. Bottom line: I enjoyed my stay at the Ramana and I understand that the mass tourism supports their business which, to me, comes with some disadvantages: overcrowded restaurant for breakfast, very loud and noisy guests at times ... and the flow of such guests is quite constant during the day (departures crossing arrivals).
