Our stay at Moditlo River Lodge was absolutely superb from start to finish. The accommodation was luxurious, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable — the perfect blend of elegance and bushveld charm. Every detail felt thoughtfully curated, making it a truly special experience. The game drives were nothing short of amazing. Each outing was exciting and memorable, with incredible sightings and knowledgeable guidance that made the experience even more meaningful. What truly sets Moditlo apart, though, is the staff. Everyone was so warm and welcoming, making us feel completely at home. A special mention to Junce, Lee, Darren, and Clement — they were top notch! Their professionalism, friendliness, and passion made our stay exceptional. We left with unforgettable memories and can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!

As a lot of other reviews stated, the staff are what makes Moditlo so special. Junce was very welcoming and helpful throughout the stay along with everyone else. The safari drives in the morning and afternoon were fantastic, with Sidom and Chris being brilliant with their knowledge. The food was great too, every meal was brilliant. Overall, we had the best three nights staying at Moditlo. Only two very minor suggestions; the website could have been clearer as to what was included in the stay and what to expect. The WiFi was quite unreliable too.

I have to say I think this is so far my most favourite game lodge in South Africa. The staff truly make you feel at home. Me and my mom (83) took a road trip in August there. They show so much love and respect for visitors. Believe me 2 nights is not enough. The guides and spotters went out of their way to try and find the Big 5 for you to see. We manage to see 4 out of 5. Just not the leopard, but we did see 2 stunning cheetahs. The food are incredible, and do try to book over a Monday when they have their Boma dinners. The rooms are super luxurious with all amenities you can think of. The beds itself is super soft, and it feels like you sleep in a warm and cozy fluffy cloud. There is also a spa to pamper yourself. Do visit this lodge, you will not be disappointed.

Super friendly staff. Game (Safari) with Jika and Caswel was great. Both are really nice persons. They make a great team as a Game Driver and Tracker. If you are going to stay at Moditlo ask if they are available for your rides! Also the room was really clean and super comfortable. Enjoy so much the 2 nights we stayed there. For sure would stay more.

An excellent place to stay for safari. Very kind, thoughtful staff and excellent accommodation. Food was very good but could be improved slightly for full five stars, and some more gluten-free options could be added. Would still highly recommend

The best honeymoon we could ever ask for. From our arrival to our last day - the staff welcomed us with sincere kindness & joy. It's been a while since I have seen such incredible synergy between staff members. The game drives were exceptional - we were incredibly lucky to have seen 4/5 of the big 5, as well as a bunch of other animals. Our tracker & field guide went through a lot of trouble to ensure we had the best safari experiences. They were incredibly knowledgeable and funny!! I'm sure we gained a few kg's this week as the food was also EXCEPTIONAL; coffee & rusks in the bush, breakfast, lunch, sunset drinks & snacks & dinner!!! The boma dinners where we were entertained by the staff's traditional singing and dancing!! Wow, wow, wow!!! I can go on about so much more... best decision ever to make this our honeymoon destination. We'll be back for sure!!! Thanks Moditlo River Lodge team!!!!

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with the warmest, most genuine hospitality we have ever experienced. The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional, yet they make you feel completely at home—like you’re part of a big, loving family rather than just guests. The safari experience was outstanding: thrilling, informative, and always felt safe and well-managed. Every game drive was unique and memorable, and our guides’ passion for the bush truly elevated each outing. Being so close to nature while feeling completely cared for is a rare balance, and Moditlo gets it absolutely right. The cuisine deserves special mention—three incredible meals a day, each beautifully prepared and full of flavour. Every dining experience felt special, whether it was breakfast in the bush, a relaxed lunch, or an elegant dinner under the stars. The care and love put into the food made every meal something to look forward to. One of the most surprising and beautiful parts of our stay was the people we met. Even on our honeymoon, we made instant friendships with wonderful guests from all over the world. There is something truly special about Moditlo’s atmosphere—it brings people together effortlessly while still respecting privacy and romance. This was far more than just a holiday. It was a deeply meaningful, soul-enriching experience that will stay with us forever. Moditlo River Lodge is truly a once-in-a-lifetime destination, and honestly, it’s the kind of place that deserves to be visited year after year. Beautiful lodges amongst the wildlife, with animals literally on your doorstep. Incredibly attentive staff and phenomenal food - especially the braai! The safari drives are beyond belief. What a trip!

From the moment we were greeted until our departure, the staff was amazing. We stayed 3 nights, saw every animal by the time we left, made friends with the others in our safari group and made memories to last a lifetime. I’m a picky eater, so I was a bit worried about the food, but everything was delicious and there was always a variety to choose from. We appreciate Apperance, Christabel, Dumi and Derrick (double D), Donald, Jim, Serry, Kayla, Miracle, Clement, William, Forgive, Owse and all the other staff and I apologize for misspelled names. The lodge is beautiful, clean and we loved how the rooms were in the other side of the river from the common spaces. We saw wildlife in the dry river bed and around the lodge. It was a dream bucket list trip come true!

Moditlo ukani villa was. Nothing short of amazing. It exceeded expectations. We went into of we paid too much but once we were there it was worth every penny. The staff are so nice and accommodating. Our house staff sapati, serry, and ntwaki were the nicest people. Darryn and enock took such good care of us during the game drives. Each time we went out was different from the rest. We enjoyed our snacks and drinks by the hippos and giraffes. Our villa was warm and comforting and well taken care of. My kids loved all the extra attention they received and the pool.

As South Africans ourselves, we can confirm that Moditlo River Lodge offers a genuine local experience. We had an incredible time and spotted more than the big 5 in our very short stay. From the accommodation to the meals, and the exceptional customer service and safari guides, you all have truly exceeded expectations. Well done for keeping the SA name high.

Our stay at Moditlo River Lodge was nothing short of extraordinary, and it truly began with our incredible safari guide Slon and tracker Mdu. Their knowledge, warmth and passion for the bush were evident from the very first drive. They went above and beyond to make every safari exceptional, sharing insights with genuine enthusiasm and making sure every moment felt special. Thanks to them, we were fortunate enough to see the Big Five, including breathtakingly close encounters with lions and elephants who calmly chose to walk right past our vehicle. It was humbling, thrilling and unforgettable. Back at the lodge, the staff were simply outstanding. Every single person was friendly, attentive and genuinely invested in making our stay perfect. Service with a smile truly doesn’t do them justice, they took hospitality to another level. By the time we left, we knew so many of them by name, including Junce, Appearance and Clement, among many other wonderful team members. What really stood out was how they began to anticipate our needs before we even asked, right down to remembering my sundowner drink order! The Boma nights around the fire were an absolute highlight, filled with laughter, warmth and joy as the team shared their local culture through singing and dancing. It created such a special sense of connection. The food was stunning and far exceeded our expectations. Every meal was fresh, beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. My husband is a big meat lover and I am vegetarian, and we both felt completely catered for, the quality and variety were excellent, with a wonderful mix of options for everyone. Our room was spotless and perfectly balanced modern comfort with an authentic “in the bush” feel. The lodge also offers a lovely dining and social area that feels relaxed, welcoming and immersed in nature. Moditlo River Lodge gave us the most fantastic start to our honeymoon, and every single staff member played a part in making it so special. This place will always hold a place in our hearts. Thats the PERFECT place to have the best safari experience. The lodge is FANTASTIC, food is amazing, staff is lovely, helpful and kind! I had WONDERFUL experiences here and I didnt want to leave. The pool is amazing, all the environment is just perfet. I dont have words. 100% recommend. Junce, Sidon, Chris, Serry, Jim, all these guys treated me so well. I felt at home

Staff went out of their way to make our visit memorable. The food and service quality was truly exceptional. Game drives were informative, we enjoyed every minute.
