Unique Hostel

Honestly, it looks better in photos. The location is a bit complicated. When you get to Chungking Mansions, once inside, upstairs there's a sign that says BLOCK E with an arrow pointing right. It's at the back. Then you go up to the 9th floor and you'll find it. Anyway, the girl who welcomed us was very kind, she lent us an umbrella, stored our suitcases, and explained everything, both for the shower and the exit door. There's a fridge, washing machine, and microwave.

For just over a hundred Hong Kong dollars, to get accommodation of this quality in Hong Kong is absolutely amazing value for money. Not to mention the super convenient location, and the satisfactory hygiene in Chungking Mansions is truly rare and impressive, even better than the 4-star hotel I stayed in last week. Although the room is a bit small, I basically only used it for sleeping, so it wasn't a big issue. My neighbors weren't noisy at all, and I slept very well through the night. At this price and quality, I will definitely come back again. I hope they maintain this standard. Many people are a bit apprehensive when they hear 'Chungking Mansions', but there's really nothing to be afraid of. Even as a solo female traveler, nothing scary happened. The curry downstairs is very authentic, and you can try authentic food from various countries there.

The room was surprisingly very clean, which was unexpected for one of the cheapest places in HK, though there were a few stains on the bedding. The location is very convenient, the hotel is three minutes from the promenade and the ferry, and there are many restaurants and shops around, making it one of the most vibrant areas of the city. Everything seemed fine, BUT! Probably due to the laundry detergent used for the bedding, our skin all over our bodies itched and scratched incredibly all night, as if many tiny needles were pricking our skin. This could have been an allergy, but my husband had the exact same reaction, and there were no noticeable skin rashes, only physical sensations. Also, the bedding (especially the pillowcases) was not completely dry, so it smelled strongly of dampness. In short, because of this itching and smell, it was simply impossible to sleep, and towards morning, drops from the air conditioner on the floor above started dripping onto our window, which also disturbed our rest. Overall, the hotel is not bad, the staff are very friendly, and the room is clean and tidy, but I recommend the hotel change the laundry detergent for the bedding.

The hotel is good, and I also liked the staff. It's worth the price, and the location is in the city center.

A standard mini-room, just like all the others in this building. The owner is very friendly. There's a microwave, and hot and cold water. The bed linen and towels are old, worn, and show clear signs of use, but they are clean. The air conditioning is quite loud, so I'd recommend earplugs for sleeping.
