The Southern Belle

Perfect 🥰 Staff were friendly, helpful and engaging. Couldn't fault the rooms, spacious and well thought out. Breakfast was tasty, filling and well presented. Good value for money, 10 min walk from Brighton Centre. This is now my go to for visiting Brighton. Well done!

We stayed a Saturday night, and were really impressed with the place. Our room was gorgeous, with a large and very comfortable bed, and the bathroom was huge with an amazing shower. We had a partial sea view from the big bay window at the front of the hotel (2nd floor). The bar downstairs was welcoming, and when we came back from our evening out, we were able to get a couple of cocktails and take them up to our room. We had an excellent full English breakfast, freshly-cooked (not buffet style), the next morning. We have already recommended the Southern Belle to friends, and will definitely stay again when we're next down in Brighton. x

Loved this quirky little hotel . It had a great vibe about it and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room on the top floor was spotless with a comfortable bed and away from street noise . We had a drink in the bar before a meal in town and liked the atmosphere and eclectic decor . Our breakfast was served piping hot and was delicious . Quality products had been sourced . We'd definitely come here again.

Staff were slow, jack was good, helpful and accommodating but…. Unpleasant food, only had the breakfast after staying the eve, poached eggs on toast and that just tasted of vinegar-disgusting so left it. Not to mention the rude staff. Well someone called katie/kate maybe the manager?? Sitting there drinking at the bar herself so we asked to have a drink, she said no we are closed, well close the door then and don’t sit there drinking yourself. Considering we were also staying there for the eve and not just some random passer bystanders her tone was way off, she’s grumpy, miserable looking, unapproachable, should really not be working in a customer environment. The place is far too expensive for what it is when staying for a night. Location for walking, other restaurants and pubs are ok but I wouldn’t bother again, there are definitely better places, the Robin Hood pub round the corner was lovely the guy behind the bar there actually knew how to treat its customers! He will be getting a 5* review

Nearly all pubs with food now serve Sunday roast lunches to respond to the trend of eating the meal out rather than the traditional family gathering. Nearly all pubs with food are pretty good, but mostly "meh". The Southern Belle is OUTSTANDING. One of the best Sunday lunches my party and I have had, and we all had different roasts. My pork belly was perfectly cooked with the crispiest crackling. The very generous plate included a variety of vegetables, again perfectly "al dente" crispy roast spuds and a large, blousy, puffy Yorkshire pudding. Do not miss the extra sausage wrapped in crispy bacon. It's wild boar, spicy and delicious. I cannot praise the cooking and the delightful young staff highly enough.
