Ilkley Riverside Hotel

We decided to have a night in Ilkley just for a change. This hotel looked fine on the website, however reality was a different matter. As soon as we walked in, I wanted to turn around and go home. It was very dated and dingy, in need of refurbishment and the staff (though friendly) were ‘Acorn Antiques’. The room was so shabby and tacky with impressive cobwebs virtually hanging over the bed. As quickly as we could, we headed out to explore. Ending up in the fabulous Flying Duck pub and then Brooks Sri Lankan restaurant, where the food was just sublime. Following a few Dutch courage bevies we went back to the hotel and braved the bed. Breakfast in the morning was very basic. The menus were sticky, the glasses watermarked and the food was poor quality. We were glad to be on our way home by 9am. £140 for this experience 😡

Wife and I had a great 2 nite stay here. Christine the proprietor was lovely. Rooms were cozy and very comfortable. We felt like we were staying in our grandparents home. Well taken care of, fed nicely and treated like we were part of the family. Room had everything we needed. Bonus was the nice little restaurant where we had wonderful full english breakfast in the AM, and fish and chips for lunch. Yes, we also had a pint and a glass of wine too. Why not. Fun to sit amongst the locals who seem to enjoy this place as their local watering hotel (and their dogs love it too!). Besides being in a wonderful location on the river (perfect for walking), the Inn is a 5 minute walk to the downtown Ilkely area with nice restaurants (we really enjoyed Pranzo and Picollino) and shops. We loved the visit to the area and felt this hotel just made it homey.

Spent a couple of nights here recently. The room overlooked the river which was lovely. It was a family room but for just two people felt a bit cluttered with furniture but the bed was comfortable and the room was nice and clean with tea and coffee facilities and a small shower and toilet room. The weather wasn’t very good as it was raining but we made the best of it and had a look around Ilkley and its nice selection of shops. Also visited nearby Cow and Calf on the moors and Harrogate.. We had very nice English breakfasts each morning and lovely hot coffee. We ate in the bar both evenings. Good food and well cooked and reasonably priced. Lots of outside space for eating in the better weather and a nice open park area nearby and of course the lovely flowing river. Very enjoyable break.

This hotel felt so homely and cosy! The food was incredible however the staff member Jamie made the trip for us, so friendly, funny and attentive! It was such a special occasion for us as a family and our stay at this hotel made it even better!!

I don't like writing negative reviews. However, I felt I needed to say something about our experience (we had 4 rooms). All four of our rooms had an infestation of spiders. I killed 11 in my room, 8 in my daughters. Staff vacuumed up several in a 3rd room. And these were big spiders 3-4 centimeters. A few spiders--sure, ok--but this was unacceptable. Bring in pest control. We stayed at the Riverside during an extreme heat wave. The rooms were nearly unbearable because of the heat. Windows only opened about 5-6 inches. One room didn't have a fan, another, the fan didn't work. I certainly don't expect management to install air conditioning, but they should be prepared with quality high volume fans (a relatively small expense). On a positive note the staff were kind, understanding, and professional in the face of having to deal with some unhappy customers. The location of the hotel on the river is very nice.

We had high hopes, it looked really nice in the photos online but we were disappointed. We found it dated and some areas need a good clean. It had a bit of a chaotic air to it, boxes that were in reception when we arrived were still there when we left. The room wasn’t to our taste. I think hotel rooms should be calming and neutral, ours felt in all honesty, cheap, with it’s faux marble, glitter and crushed velvet. The room we got wasn’t in any of the photos when we booked. The light switch was dirty, window frames grubby and the toilet brush stained-I don’t want to see that. At £135 a night it’s very overpriced for what I would rate as a 2 star hotel. To try to finish on a positive it’s in a good location and the breakfast was nice.

Excellent location beside River, lots of parking, warm welcome and great service, excellent cooked breakfast and lovely pub fare resteraunt with outdoor space. The rooms are modern furnished and have a TV ensuite etc. The fan was needed as the room was very warm.

Stayed 2 nights, very friendly and accomodating. Loved the way the dogs were always considered in what we did. Beautiful spot for walking enjoying the river or sitting with a drink in the evening. Also accomoded a large family get together at a moments notice. No stress shown by the staff. Thank you

Stayed here with my wife for 2 nights on 18th and 19th of August. We were a bit early checking in so had a couple of drinks in the bar. Couldn't resist the smell of fish and chips so we both had that. The best we've ever had. Forget Whitby, these are the best. The staff were very friendly and helpful and Taylor's Landlord was excellent. We were shown to our room which was very clean and comfortable. We later went exploring the town which is quite compact but has a large variety of shops pubs and restaurants. We returned later and had a few drinks in the beer garden by the river. The following morning there was a great choice for breakfast. We both had the full English which was well cooked, hot and plentiful. All in all, a great family run hotel in a beautiful setting by the river. Highly recommended and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
