The service was excellent, check in was even better. The carpets need to be pulled or cleaned but, room was clean shower water hot they offered continental breakfast. Nothing to complain about beside outdated carpet. Ooo got a warning for parking

This is a really neat place to stay. We had a river view and the morning before checking out we got to see the UofI row team practicing. Breakfast wasn’t that much but it was fine. Nice to see a different part of the Iowa Campus as well. Staff was great!

Wow - no way this hotel should be rated 8.2 on *******. The beds and pillows are comfy, but that is about it. Stained carpet, crappy little tv, decor from the early 90’s, bathroom from the early 80’s. You can’t beat the location, but still over priced given the condition of the rooms. Even the elevators are beat up. Hard pass on their continental breakfast as well….

WOW! What an amazing find for our trip. Located right on campus so walking around was super easy. The bed was as comfortable as one at a Fairmont hotel (not even kidding). The staff were so kind and helpful. Breakfast was basic but great. I think the rooms used to be old dorm rooms or staff housing but it was everything we needed. The hotel is part of the Stident Union building (IMU) and it was freshman orientation week so we were treated to entertainment every night in the park across from us - concerts, karaoke, drag show, daily field games - it made us feel young again and happy to see what a great school we were leaving our child at. If you have to stay in Iowa City for something at the U - check this place out

This is about our fourth time staying at Iowa House. I have come to appreciate it more each time. Here are the things I really like about it: -- GREAT location. If you're here for anything related to the university or in the town area, you can't beat this spot. Plus we had a beautiful view of the river out our room window. -- Parking at the garage across the street, with unlimited return privileges during our stay, is a huge bonus. -- Amazing value: The price is significantly cheaper than other nearby hotels. -- Cleanliness: The rooms are not luxurious, but they are very comfortable and extremely clean, which I really appreciate. -- They have stepped up their game in the breakfast area. I complained about this in a review some years ago. The breakfast does not include cooked foods but it has a nice variety of self-serve options, all nicely organized and fully stocked in a neat little dining area.

Our family stayed at the Iowa House for the weekend because of a wedding at the venue. Everything was great. It is an older hotel, but it was kept exceptionally clean and the staff was attentive, informed, and available for anything we needed.

The IMU is a nice building so I expected the hotel to be somewhat decent. The first red flag was a janky elevator, walked in the hallway and felt like The Shining movie. Entered the room and it gave motel 6. Checked out 2 hours later. I was able to get a full refund from the 6 days I booked but I just couldn’t do it. The dust was terrible and caught in my throat and the bed sheets are paper thin. The bathroom had used toiletries that they just make nice and the next person can use.

Very dirty. I don’t think anyone has ever dusted. There was hair on the pillows like someone had taken s nap. Stains on pillowcases and sheets. Was going to call desk but the phone had no cord. Staff at desk was very nice and apologetic and gave us a different room. Again- stains on sheets and hair. Fridge did not work. Location was convenient for the university tour we were taking but I would never stay there again. Also, be aware that the parking lot it a bit of a distance that would be awful in bad weather or if you have mobility issues. For the price- I expect clean with working appliances. The shower was super confusing as well and they did have half used sample shampoos etc. Just ick

If you are driving in you will find a convenient free parking place for 30 minutes. The reception is friendly and will store your bags if you are early. The room was clean with plenty of towels. There is a keurig machine with decaf and regular coffee and tea. The room is also equipped with Refrigerator with small freezer section and a microwave. The tv has a wide variety of channels. There is a wall mounted hair dryer in the bathroom and plenty of hot water. My room had a lovely view of the Iowa River. There is a continental breakfast that is breads fruit and yogurt. It does not have eggs but the River View Cafe is down the hall .it is cafeteria style and you can get eggs, potatoes and breakfast meats. It will remind you of your college days. Simple adequate and friendly staff( some are students). You are within walking distance to the world class Stanley Museum , the downtown with the famed literary walk, the Bread and Butter Market, The Prairie Lights book store and cafe, and the Giant Sloth exhibit at the natural museum. If you come here during the Playwrite Festival you are a 10 minute walk from the Theater building. This is not a fancy hotel it will do the job well.

Disappointed is the best word I can use to describe my experience. The room was more like a poorly renovated dorm room and seemed very outdated. Having been in a spectators booth in the stadium, I expected the same quality of accommodations at the hotel. For the same price, I could've stayed at an equally good location without any of the disappointment. These are just a few of the negatives: -They double charged me for the room. When I asked about why they double charged, they said the refund was processing but did not explain why I was double charged in the first place. We checked out on a Saturday morning and by Monday morning I still have not received a refund for the charge. -The room was incredibly small and the bathroom was not much better -Toiletries provided were not of great quality. -We were expected to bag and remove our own linens. -Breakfast included left a lot to be desired. With so many on campus dining facilities, I expected at least some type of hot breakfast option. The breakfast room was not staffed and when things ran out, you were just out of luck. These are a few of the positives: -Location & view -Good coffee was available in the rooms and at the breakfast. -Quiet Overall, I was disappointed but I guess that's what I get for having high expectations for a hotel on the campus of a public university.

Great location and service! The staff were super helpful and friendly. Check-in/out and parking was also very simple, and I enjoy the access to the rec center. The hallway carpeting could stand to be replaced, but that's a relatively minor detail.

Great place to say at a great price, and to feel part of the university. Amazing views of the river. When you stay here, you really feel the history of the university, and can really enjoy your time and you stay on campus. Highly recommend.

We love the location and parking convenience! Rooms are clean with good beds. Could use a little updating in bathroom. We hope that the university does not close the hotel. Such a great place for families to stay. Please keep it open!

Great location and rooms. We had a room facing the river. Not any fault of the property but rude parents letting their kids run up and down the hall screaming at 7:30 am is not appropriate. Breakfast offering were varied but we wanted a sit down and ar ice type.

While they will be closing IHH after May Graduation 2024, I hope they re-open after the building is renovated. This was my second stay, previous one was about 23 yrs. back and while it has always been simple, it is still very clean, very convenient, affordable and has wonderful staff. It was such a pleasant stay and I am kind of hoping we can stop by again on our way home because it was such a nice home base. Continental Breakfast included yogurt so a little protein, which I appreciate. :) I should note, some things like a little discoloration on carpet, etc are likely been left unaddressed as they remodel is coming up so why bother... Again, nothing gross, unsafe or impeeding to a good visit.
