Extended Stay America Suites - Orange County - Irvine Spectrum

When I read the other reviews of this property they seemed to fall into two camps: Worst hotel I ever stayed at or First Class Hotel. I always wonder when I see that which are the true reviews. If my stay is indicative of the property, I would say 2 stars is probably a fair score. I will give you the positive and the negatives and try to be fair. Safety and Check in: When I checked in there were two police cars with the lights going in the lobby not letting people into the lobby while they discussed something with the check in people. So I am assuming the reviews that discuss vandalism of cars is probably correct. Cleanliness: The floor and the bed were clean. The bathtub and countertops were bad. The bathtub had mold in the caulking and several discolored patches. I did not use the shower in the two days I was there. The countertops were sticky. I ended up cleaning them myself (it was that bad). The towels ran the gamut from white to dingy gray. I recommend they switch to black towels because while they clearly started the same color they aren't the same color anymore and it makes them look less clean. Bugs: I did not see any bugs. Other reviews mentioned this, so this may be an old problem or in a different building / floor. Bed: Creaky but serviceable. The sheets were thin (If I was actually staying there as an extended stay, I would probably bring my own blanket) and appeared clean. Size: I stayed in a king ”Suite”. It was sized okay, smaller than a Hyatt Place room but bigger than a Motel 6. It had a small love seat facing a TV, room for the bed and a tiny kitchenette and bathroom. No desk area but I used the counter in the kitchen for using my laptop. Internet: Free internet but it gives you a ”This is only suitable for surfing the web, pay money to go 2.5x faster.” Other than about a 10 minute period, the free version was fast enough for me to play YouTube and a video game. Parking: It wasn't as bad as I feared. I was able to find a parking spot each time. Is this the hotel for you? I guess if you are staying somewhere for a month and are willing to clean the room and they give you a killer deal, maybe. Am I going to be staying there again? I stay in this area 2 days a week for business and unless it is the last room for 20 miles, I wont be staying here again. With one week notice there were plenty of nicer hotels at the same price close by. Recommendations for management: Instead of taking the time to write, ”We're sorry we didn't live up to your expectations, we take your concerns seriously,” spend some time working with the cleaning staff to supervise their work. If the property was clean, my guess is your score would go up one full point.

It's an older property, but maintained fairly well. The room however was dated with popcorn ceilings, both bathroom doors wouldn't close without a lot of effort (warped), no towel racks, no lotion provided, and sofa bed uncomfortable. The breakfast was unchanged from day to day. The worst part was, when I booked, I used the show taxes and fees option so I knew what I would be paying. The first night of my stay, I was charged an additional $41 without any authorization or explanation of what it was for. I went and spoke to the front desk and the gentleman working there that evening and asked him what the $41 was for? He said it was for taxes and fees. I then explained to him I booked with all taxes/fees and I already paid them and showed him my booking receipt. He still said they were additional taxes. Then he added everything up on a calculator and told me the total I should be paying. Guess what? His total matched my total!!!! I told him yes, I agree! But I was just charged another $41. He then told me it was for additional taxes and not to worry, because it's correct. He couldn't really tell me what ”additional taxes and fees” it was for. He then told me he saw that I wasn't charged for the normal $350 deposit for some reason, and if I wanted, he would go ahead and do that now. Of course I said no, I don't need/want that. He then proceeded to tell me to just pay the $41 since I wasn't charged for the ”incidental deposit” and I should be happy I wasn't charged that. I said but that is a deposit - not a charge and will be refunded if all is well at the end of my stay. He said yes, but he will just go ahead and charge it now since it wasn't charged. He Then asked me if it was ok to charge the $350? I said no. He said don't worry about the $41, if it's an error it will be refunded. He was extremely rude and condescending.

This hotel had so many great reviews, but we have stayed here twice, and have had HORRIBLE experiences both times. We are globalists and used points to book. I booked online using the World of Hyatt app, where names of other people staying in the room are added to the ”notes”. I was staying with my aunt and uncle while my husband and mother in law stayed at another hotel where we also have points. Edward at the front desk was rude and unhelpful when my aunt and uncle arrived before me and attempted to check in. He accused them of lying and said he can't see notes on reservations from his computer, and told them that having their names in the notes section meant nothing anyway because ”anyone could hack in and add names.” They also had a printed copy of the reservation with them, so obviously they should have been allowed to check in. I tried to call from the car while driving to meet them, to let Edward know they should be on the reservation, but he wouldn't help and said I had to call some 800 number to have a rep add their names to reservation. Well, I was driving a rental car in traffic, so this was not possible! It felt like he was intentionally trying to make our experience inconvenient for some reason, which was so sad and disappointing. If he was trying to do everything he could to help, but unable, that would have been okay, but he was just unnecessarily RUDE and completely unapologetic or willing to do ANYTHING to try to help, which is why I'm writing this review, and it was also embarrassing for me as a globalist trying to let my family stay in my room with me. When I finally arrived to check in, my aunt and uncle were sitting on the curb outside because they said they felt uncomfortable in the lobby with Edward glaring at them. I checked us in, and Edward was still unapologetic and rude. We are usually upgraded as globalists, but we were not offered this either. The room was fine and clean at least. Also, globalists usually receive complementary parking, but when we checked out, we were charged for parking. I tried to call the customer service line, waiting on hold for 38 minutes before being hung up on. I also tried to use the live customer service chat through the app, but after 41 minutes, no one ever came online. I finally reached the hotel directly, and the general manager, Terry or Kerry? was rude and said the charges were valid unless the reservation was ”redemptive.” I wasn't sure what she meant by that, but I'm done with this hotel.

The hotel, room, & most importantly the bedding & towels are all clean and provided a much sought-after relief after two previous hotels on the same trip that ultimately weren't as clean as we had hoped. The front desk staff are highly courteous and they seemed to have a great logging system for each guest and their room number. They offer complimentary parking which was appreciated. Being located close to so many restaurants and grocery stores is also amazing and we drove less than a mile to the Il Fornaio Italian restaurant last night while we were at the hotel for a night and it was indeed a fantastic experience! The hotel is also quite close enough to the flagship location of the French cafe called Moulin in Newport Beach (Bristol St) which was one of the top culinary highlights of our entire trip alongside our dinner at the Michelin-starred Spanish restaurant Vaca. This being said, while the front desk does attempt to deliver an unbelievably high level of customer service on par with international 4-star hotels, the sofa bed wasn't made for our room until the third call to the front desk across a span of a few hours and the wake up call for 4am so that we would get to the airport in time for our early morning flight also never came. Apparently the wake up call was logged into the system but the system never ended up calling our room at all that morning, so we had also requested the front desk to arrange for a taxi to take us to the airport at 5am but we wanted to make sure this wasn't also forgotten so we double-checked with the front desk about the taxi pickup and when we arrived downstairs at 5am the taxi was already ready for us and the cost for the taxi was just $12 plus a tip. Very distinctively, at least from my experience, this hotel seemed to feature a special shower/bathroom where the steam quickly fills the room and creates an incredibly spa-like head sinus reset experience which left my facial skin super hydrated on both occasions that I had taken a shower. Also the Paul Mitchell shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are all very excellent for dry or irritated scalp and/or skin and the body wash was an amazing shaving gel substitute as well. The grocery items available for purchase in the lobby are rather overpriced but luckily if one hasn't the ability to frequent the nearby grocery stores then at the very least you will have an essential range of food and beverage options to stay hydrated and productive for your busy day. We loved the upscale touches throughout the property and will certainly consider returning to this hotel on future visits to Irvine!

We stayed at Staybridge Suites in Irvine for 3 weeks when we moved into the area and it was everything we hoped for and more. The spacious rooms, full in-room kitchen, laundry room, pool, and other amenities all made our extended stay comfortable and pleasant. But the best part of our stay was the amazing staff that went above and beyond to solve any issue and make our stay even better. Jorge, Fara, Sandra, and all the other staff members - thank you for your hospitality and professionalism.

The hardware facilities are good. It is very close to UCI, and there is an asian food court in 10 minutes by car...all are good. but! too! Quarrel! up! The road downstairs is full of roaring cars all night, so you can rest if you don’t want to sleep.

So just think about how to change the world. After the economic system collapses, I won’t think this way, and I won’t live this way again when we are together... But I have also had the opportunity to do it myself. It will be so fast...but don’t always want to show each other when you are with them because of this
