The surrounding neighborhood is quiet, but it's too far to Old Jerusalem, and you have to cross many hills and valleys. It's difficult to get to and from on foot, even if you take a bus. The breakfast was surprisingly good, but the shower room and other facilities were too old. The reception was also lacking in friendliness, which made the overall impression of the hotel bad. If it's around 70% of the price I paid now, I think I'll be satisfied.

Although it is located in East Jerusalem, it has history and charm which has attracted me to bring my grandkids here. Although I’m Jewish, I thought this would be a great opportunity to see Palestinian cities like Bethlehem Jericho and Ramallah. We enjoyed our four day stay here. Every day started with a great breakfast. Afterwards, it is a short walk to the Damascus Gate into the walled city. This is a wonderful location. The rooms, each somewhat different but always tastefully decorated and we had taken four separate rooms, nobody had a room issue. The grounds were well maintained and very pleasant to stroll here I had stayed here and the King David on other occasions. Both are excellent but I think my grandsons felt very comfortable here

I need to start out by saying I don't mean to bash this place, but I should have read the most recent reviews. Many of the older pics do not represent the current state of the property, maybe in a previous incarnation, but not now. My room, 14 was tiny, and wasn't representative of any of the room pics posted by the owners. It's quite disingenuous for the current owners to use pics when it was a prior establishment, like trying to sell your old used car with the factory photos. The place looks run down, and shoddy. My room had many areas of cracked paint, though recently repainted. Missing drapes, no phone as in the photos. You can tell where they tried to modernize by replacing old windows and doors, but the repairs were done on the cheap, are shoddy. The sign in the bathroom said to run the hot water for a while, it never got hot enough to comfortably shower in the unheated bathroom. They did add a continental breakfast, which would have been more enjoyable had the dining room been properly heated. I was worried about getting a good night sleep given there is no sound insulation from the door, but I will say it was very quiet, probably because this is low season, and the place felt empty of guests. The place is very clean, and the person who appears to be the manager/owner is very polite and very friendly. I can imagine that COVID-19 has been devastating for his business. The takeaway here is that if you need a place to stay in this neighborhood, and are not looking for fancy, this will work if you can get a deal, otherwise look elsewhere. Bed, 5/10. Not the worst I have slept in, but certainly not great. Room condition, also 5/10. Clean but Ikea quality furniture that had seen better days. No shutters, and no blackout drapes. Summer visitors will have problems with this. Bathroom, 7/10. Seemed to have been recently updated, but what good is a shower if you can't use it? Oh, and no glass or cups in the room. How are you supposed to brush your teeth or take meds? Amenities, 7/10. Thin towels, minimal shampoo, soap and shower gel. Extras available as self-serve. Public spaces, 3/10. The place is depressing, it needs a serious refreshing. Breakfast, 5/10. Ignore the older pics of fresh omlets and other hot food. These are old, they only offer what they call a "continental breakfast", there is no chef. The TV in the room was ok, limited channels, foreign visitors will have limited choice. To be honest this is not the place where you want to spend time here, anyway. I wound up leaving early, I couldn't spend another night in this place.

I am a local professional in the tourism business, so I stay in a lot of hotels. I wanted to be close to my clients and chose The Colony based on location and the attractive room rate. There was an issue with my reservation, which was speedily resolved. My room was small, no view which is fine. I was a bit turned off by the condition of the furniture, the unfinished paint job, the small crack in my room door which meant that I could see out(and potentially someone could see in) and lack of a light bulb in the room's sole two socket light fixture. More importantly however was that the hot water system wasn't working correctly so after being scalded by hot water, I had to keep my hand close the handle to find the right temperature. There was also a slight sewer smell coming from one of the drains both in the bathroom and in their common area. It wasn't overwhelming and it may not have been the hotel's problem but it was a bit off putting. Bottom line is that this is a budget hotel in an excellent area of Jerusalem. The accommodations were adequate but I wouldn't stay again.

I find it hard to believe that this is rated as a 3 star hotel. The walls had holes in them, they were blistered looking with cracks, the bathroom smelled and there were ants all over the balcony. It is in a complete state of disrepair. Also the walls are thin, you can hear chatter and tv noises from other rooms. It felt dirty and I was not comfortable staying in the room, except when I had to sleep. My husband and I could not wait to check out and stay in a real hotel. It is certainly not a good value for the money. There is no breakfast buffet, only coffee and mediocre cookies. The one positive remark is that the staff is friendly and kind.

A small hotel at a good location. We stayed for one night. You would have to climb a few dozen stairs to the reception and the rooms - both on 2nd floor. The room is small but very clean. The TV is also small. The Value for money was fair.

WORST online booking ever. As an Israeli living abroad, made the reservation through a well known online booking site, taking in consideration the location of the place as well as the publicity of the structure on the site. When arrived, I was given a room which is way below to be called a hotel room, with cracks all over the wall, insects travelling free on the carpet, dirty walls. The receptionist was a tired person, lazy to give answers.I was supposed to stay on isolation, due to regulations upon entering Israel, but in that room it was impossible. In less than one hour I did check out and the structure refuses to a complete refund. I asked to be called by a manager, to this day no one has done so. I guess they do not care about clients! Even though Israel is open, following massive COVID vacinations, the structure didn't offer breakfast, even on additional payment. I have lived all my life in Jerusalem,, and I know the quality of its hotels, therefore my suggestion is to stay away from this structure.
