The room was okay, pretty standard. The hotel itself is newly renovated, but the building's foundation is old. What bothered me was the sheer stupidity of other guests and the hotel's carelessness.
On the way to the airport, two girls stopped the hotel shuttle and asked if they could be taken to a barbecue restaurant. That in itself is ridiculous, but even funnier is that the driver agreed. The girls got in the car and didn't close the door, claiming it was automatic. The driver then opened the trunk and didn't close it, and my luggage almost fell out. Then, to accommodate these girls, we took a detour to the barbecue place. They took one look at it and decided the hygiene wasn't up to their standards, so they refused to go. They treated the hotel's airport shuttle like their private chauffeur.
It felt as if everyone else staying there was somehow inferior. The driver was completely at their beck and call, going wherever they wanted and not going wherever they didn't. The hotel isn't far from the airport, and the trip should have taken just a few minutes, but it was incredibly unpleasant and almost ruined my Shantou trip.
I'll be avoiding this place. I hope the hotel remembers what a shuttle service is for and doesn't try to be a 'good Samaritan.' If you can't get a taxi for dinner, then don't eat out.
