The smell of the bathroom was so bad... The hot spring was nice, but I couldn't sleep because of the bad smell coming from the bathroom. When I looked, it didn't seem to be just our room, but the sewage facilities were poor overall. Since it was a complaint, they couldn't change the room, but they just sprayed a lot of deodorizer. I went to a ryokan with great determination, but I don't think I'll go there again. I'd rather have a 5-star hotel vacation with this money. The dinner was delicious, but it felt average. The breakfast was good! I recommend the breakfast.

I stayed at the 105 Matsumori at Matsukaze-an, where the room had a small open-air hot spring bath. You can choose two yukatas to wear inside the hotel; the colors are all very nice. Dinner was plentiful, but there were a bit too many cold dishes, which might be a little overwhelming for Chinese people. There are two large public hot spring baths, with men and women switching between morning and evening. Soaking in the open-air bath on the first floor in the evening is especially enjoyable.

Located uphill in Yamashiro onsen. The hotel looked a bit old but still grand. Check in service was good. We sere led to our room, which is quite big by any Japan standard. It is a 10 tatami living room, plus a twin bed, a side seating area by the window, and a nice large entrance area. Though the hotel is a bit old and dated, I can see that the hotel is trying hard to make up by better service. The hotel provides a 50 minutes family onsen session to us during our stay. The family onsen is very nice, with drinks, towel and amenities all stocked up. Our dinner was served in the room. We were served one whole Echizen crab each person, making us very busy to take out the crab meat. It was a sumptuous meal with various good ingredients. For the price we paid, it is a good deal that we have.

The food and bath were perfect, but the water in the bathroom in my room didn't drain well, so the front desk staff fixed it first. They dealt with it right away, but I wish they had checked beforehand. It was a very unpleasant experience. Also, I got a cheap plan, so it can't be helped, but there was noticeable black mold on the bathroom floor, and the mat in front of the toilet was noticeably frayed. You could really feel the age of the building. The bath was great.

While the building's exterior exudes a sense of history, the interior has been renovated. Upon arrival, several staff members helped us with everything from car transfers to luggage handling. They were so enthusiastic and provided full service that we were almost in awe. We stayed in a Type C room with a semi-open-air bath, which was very modern and clean. We had learned in advance that Type C was on the top floor, so we chose it without hesitation. We ended up having a very comfortable stay. The TV was also internet-enabled, so we were able to watch YouTube. Since our room is on a hill, we expected the view of Yamashiro Onsen's townscape to fill the entire window, but the Oedo Building blocked about half of our room, which was a bit disappointing. However, the other half had a great view. If you stay in rooms 801 or 802 on the edge, the Oedo Building might not be too much of a distraction. Rooms 805 and 806 are quite obstructive. Dining was in semi-private rooms separated by blinds, so it felt almost private. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying and the portions were just right. The waitress worked hard, too. While couples might be interested in the open-air bath in their guest rooms, the bathtub and shower room were very clean. The temperature could be adjusted freely, allowing for hotter or warmer temperatures. However, while it's a hot spring, it's not directly sourced, so be aware of this. The water seems to be filtered and circulated, so it didn't feel like a hot spring at all (it was odorless). For that, you'll have to go to the public bath. The public bath was excellent. We were also pleased to find two bath towels provided in our room. From check-in to check-out, the staff were generally friendly, stopping to greet us as we passed each other. The manager's personality is also quite good. It didn't seem to accept large groups, so I think this is a great value for couples, families, or couples looking to relax. Personally, I really liked the spacious seating and tables in the dining area. I saw a guest in a wheelchair, and there was plenty of space at the table, which seemed nice. It's impressive that they took such consideration into account during the renovation.

This was my first visit in four years. I stayed with the in-room dining plan. The room had been renovated the last time, but this time I was surprised to see that the baths had been renovated! A very nice sauna had been installed in the large baths on both the first and third floors, and there was even a relaxation space next to the cold bath. I was very satisfied with the food, the baths, and the room.

I booked a room with an open-air bath and requested a shuttle from Kaga Onsen Station. Once I got off the station, there was a roof over my shoulder all the way to the shuttle bus stop, so I didn't need an umbrella. The open-air bath in the room was a very relaxing hot spring. The portions were large, but the simmered head of fish was well-seasoned, and my children ate everything. I also used the large public bath after breakfast, which was surrounded by trees and had a lovely atmosphere. However, it's a bit far from the hotel, so it might be difficult to stroll around the hot spring town. There's a narrow, hilly road to the inn, so it might be a bit difficult to drive by car.
