Located in Taipa and only 1.7 km from Cable Bay Beach, Taipa Coastal Retreat provides accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. Having booked a studio cabin for 2 nights it wasn’t until we were handed the keys to the wrong unit that we realised Top Ten had changed our booking and not advised us in advance or at check in despite taking the payment for the unit days previously. We’d booked an elevated unit with sea view in a quieter more private location. We had stayed in this unit before and had chosen it specifically On check in we were handed the keys to a unit in the centre of the site with an outlook onto tarmac, buildings and the dump station. (See photos of the vistas from the decks of both preferred and alternate units attached) No advance notification of this change in booking had been forthcoming from Top Ten No reason has yet been provided as to why our booked and paid for unit had been given to other guests. When queried with the manager the response was derisory. You could and should have done so much better. We were advised that the change was an “upgrade” and that nothing else was available for the first of our 2 nights. On the 2nd night we were offered another sea view unit, however this would involve us moving and for an additional charge of $130. I will not be returning to this site, and this has been the only disappointing experience with our accommodation in this 6 week holiday to New Zealand, and was very much the low point in an otherwise fantastic visit to this part of the world.

We were so lucky to met Shayla (the awesome event manager) who gave us an amazing planning advice, share many options, great availability for calls to organise the wedding and excellent recommendations. But the most important, she kept us calm and feeling confident during almost all the process (exactly what you need to plan a wedding 🥰didn’t need a wedding planner, Shayla provided that help to me ! Shayla and the team also gave us many treats, gifts and made us feel very spoiled and special during all the wedding planning period and after it! We are very thankful for all the Carrington team that with their hard work made our wedding day so incredible. Arriving in Kaitaia after 10pm most Motels were closed or full. My wife and I eventually found Kaitaia Motor Lodge situated just on the edge of town. The owner, Gina, opened the office up with a smile and a welcome. There was only a two bedroom family unit available which we happily took. To our surprise Gina only charged us for a single room unit rate. That says all you need to know about the owners. They made us feel like family. The units are well designed, convenient, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location was perfect for exploring the northern peninsular and our one night stopover was extended to three nights. Certainly the best Motel we found on our two week road trip around the North Island. We highly recommend Kaitaia Motor Lodge and certainly plan to return.
