Villa Kemi

Unfortunately the code received went to trash and our 18 and 19 year old were outside unable to get in. Pre booked and paid, receipts on phone. Minus 20 phoned the given number for hep and refused entry, because they couldn’t give code number.it was midnight after they arrived and the taxi left them outside. They were roaming the streets for three hours and banging on doors before a couple picked them up and they slept at their home. Apart from paying two nights and only staying one , the trauma of severe weather affected them the next day. Fortunately their sledging trip was moved toward by two hours, because they had two hours sleep. It was a really terrible situation.

The building is an old residential building converted to something they call a hostel but is closer to a hippie commune. It's poorly maintained and some of the choices done during the conversion are borderline illegal (take for example placing a shower cubicle around a sprinkler). Lack of maintenance leads to problems with windows as well as heating, causing a freezing cold bathroom with only -3 C outside. Also not great for the environment. Just fix the seal in the windows, air your radiators, and you'll get away with half the heating. Can't say anything about service as there is none, full self-service. The bed was comfortable and the sheets clean, so at least there's that. Even considering the cheap price, I won't be visiting them again. To me the lack of personnel on site, the lack of maintenance and the type of clientel just scream that this place is going to burn down sooner or later. To be honest, you should not even be allowed to operate like this in the first place, but I suppose that's Kemi for you.

The hostel's security issues are bad. The fire alarms were disconnected from the fire detector throughout my vacation (several days). The green emergency exit lights do not light up on any floor. There is water damage on the ceiling of the room near the bed, because the surface material of the ceiling is soon dripping onto the bed. The ceiling panel on the lowest floor also has traces of water damage. I didn't smell mold. The wall panel of the second sauna has darkened from the heat of the stove, almost charred. The refrigerator in the room does not cool down. The back panel of the wardrobe is detached.
