My children and I stayed at ocean reef for Fourth of July weekend. The room looked great from the online pictures and had great reviews so it was a no brainer to stay there! My kids were super excited to be close to the beach and have a pool. However, the room was filthy! Trash under the chairs and loveseat (that you’re not allowed to move by the way), black and red mold on the shower curtain, and a massive black ROACH! I had to go to the dollar store to buy a cheap shower curtain just so we could shower. I called the front desk at midnight to complain about the roach and have someone to come help me but she said maintenance was gone for the day and she would try to look for some spray. We had to leave the hotel at 12:30 in the middle of the night and make another reservation at another hotel 1hr and 30 mins away! My room was ground level and when I asked for a new room, they told me that the hotel was sold out for the holiday weekend. I spent $706 to stay at this place for two nights! I’ve been trying to call the hotel to find a resolution and they are avoiding my calls. I tried calling best western but apparently this company is falsely advertising as a best western hotel and they are not affiliated with best western! Never staying here again.. if you don’t mind roaches enjoy! To the front desk rep thinks you can respond to this review negating my experience: don’t start with your lies! This was a horrible experience and you know it! I deserve atleast 1 night refund. Tell Mr Patel to call me himself for a resolution.

We stayed 2 nights at the beachfront Wingate. The suite was very large. We had a corner room with a large living room and patio overlooking the ocean, nice bedroom with patio looking towards the Wright brothers memorial, a kitchenette and 2 TVs. The suite was clean and comfy. The wooden furniture could use a little tlc but it was fine. There’s guest laundry on the 3rd floor which was very convenient. No complaints except the room next-door to us had a very loud squeaky and slamming door. Based on the storage van and the equipment in the parking lot, it appears there might be some renovations happening. We didn’t hear any so no complaints about that.

My group has been coming to this hotel for the past three years and have always had a great time. The rooms are clean and spacious with great views of the ocean. The staff is awesome and very knowledgeable. The location is perfect as it is close to several restaurants and souvenir shops. The front of the hotel has great views of the Wright Brothers monument and plenty of parking. My group is already planning for our return next year.

This location was perfect for our large group of friends and family! If you stay here, you'll be directly on the beach with a short walk through the dunes, there's a lifeguard station house DIRECTLY next door, an incredible gas station/ souvenir shop/ sandwich shop/ fishing gear/ EVERYTHING shop! This spot is centrally located, a short drive from EVERYTHING Wright brothers related, and there's a pool with a decked stage area for small events and gatherings. The location was previously renovated, and the rooms are VERY spacious, with a huge living room apart from the bedroom. The hotel was clean, inside and out, and the staff were tremendously accommodating and friendly. I WILL be back to visit this incredible coast again, and I will absolutely be staying at the KDH Wingate!

The staff were amazing! Cleanest pool Ive seen by evidence that it was cleaned thoroughly every single morning. Poolside area was immaculate as well. Customer service beats the bigger chains hands down! The dune side views were just what the DR ordered. I would highly recommend to anyone who needed a break!

First, the pictures on trip advisor are misleading. Do not base your decision to stay here based on these photos. There is no breakfast available. The lobby is very small. The front desk person was folding sheets and towels at the desk. The rooms are very basic. Missing a few things . No hand soap at the sinks no toilet paper dispenser in the bathroom, no where to hang your clothes. Oh and the furniture is very hard like sitting on cement blocks. The coffee maker was poor, it used small coffee bags that were not good. There were no drinking cups in the room either.No housekeeping offered, no security lock on the door and elevators are outside where anyone can use them. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We had a nice view from the balcony. There is easy access to the beach and the location is convenient. I cannot really recommend this hotel when there are better choices available.

I would advise people to avoid this place. They have no housekeeping service and at the beach that is a huge negative. The floors get dirty very quick with sand in your feet turn black from walking around, so you have to keep socks on all the time there’s no towel racks anywhere to hang towels on there’s no toilet paper holders. Any amenity said there was an ironing board and iron, a phone and a hairdryer, and there was none of those. The fence was down by the pool and it didn’t look like anybody had the intention of fixing it which meant the pool was closed while we were there breakfast was OK I thought maybe we might have some scrambled eggs and fresh sausage or bacon but I guess not. It’s mostly frozen stuff along with frozen waffles and cereal I think the Wyndham hotel chain has really gone downhill fast and I wish they had not bought up all the hotel chains because now they are terrible! I’m Wyndham employee and I booked us through the Wyndham website and I tried to get a discount, but they told me that was considered a third party and they don’t issues discounts. Totally disappointed in this whole stay and I will never return here again and advise others to stay away also. The fitness center was out of service too, but that was the only thing on the website that they announced.

Staff is rude& don’t know how to check people in.Had to have the housekeeper help them check me in.Bathroom had previous guest hair all over the tub.Pool had algae but they allowed kids to swim(off season)”Hot(included)breakfast” was frozen waffles & coffee.Sofa and chairs in the “ocean view” would have been more comfortable if it were a park bench.Most horrible stay I have ever had in OBX.

Just don't, move on! And we booked 2 nights. This place was very unappealing from the first sight. The ONLY draw is that it is right on the beach. The air in the room felt , lets just say , unhealthy. Room had a coat of paint on walls and lvp. The rest - well , just don't go. I'm saving you the experience.

Stayed here when it was a Best Western, and we loved it. Saw some less than stellar reviews, but decided to book anyway. We didn’t love the place, but it wasn’t horrible either. The location and views are great. The room itself was good. Plenty of space which was nice. You get a living room and separate bedroom for the same price if not less as you would just a room. The views from our fourth floor room above the pool were great. The room is newly updated, and for the most part clean. The beds were comfortable and clean. We really liked having the living room to sit and relax in the evenings. The breakfast was good. Had breakfast burritos which were great, pancake and sausages on a stick, biscuit and sausage, waffles, cereal, bread, and fruit. The ladies in the breakfast room were the most friendly people at the hotel. We noticed that it seemed like they kind of stopped caring for the place already though. While the rooms were nice and updated, they didn’t finish them. No toilet paper or towel racks in the bathroom. That wasn’t a deal breaker, but a slight inconvenience. The pool was closed for our five nights also. It just looked like it just needed cleaned. That was the biggest disappointment as I like the pool in the afternoons. There was also fencing around the pool that was blown over. We didn’t see anyone working on the property for our five nights. The floors in the room also get very dirty. Like most other places they don’t do daily housekeeping anymore. I’m ok with that but we noticed on our second night that the floors made our feet black. Not sure if they were cleaned for night one, but we did notice it night two. Maybe they should have some mats outside or right inside the door to wipe off your feet. Other than the floors we felt our room was spotless. They didn’t even have a nice staff. Other than the breakfast ladies (who were amazing!) no one was nice. I felt like I was interrupting the front desk lady and her two coworkers when I checked in. I wasn’t even acknowledged right away and they continued their conversation while checking me in. We passed the housekeepers a handful of times, and they seemed to want to avoid people. We did ask about why they seemed to stop with the renovations. We were told that the hotel was sold again, so it’s in the process of a new owner. So the old owner doesn’t care, and the new one hasn’t taken over yet (not their words, but my assumption). I could have been ok with a couple of the negatives, but they just add up too much. Especially the pool. How hard would it be to clean it so people could use it? Either clean it or make a note on the website it’s unavailable like it says about the fitness room. It was by no means a horrible stay, but just a completely mediocre one. I would steer clear until the new owner has taken over and everything is up and in working order.

We've stayed af this hotel many times. The renovation is amazing and the rooms are clean! The staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. They do not go inside of your room but who wants strangers in their room anyway. You can always get what you need from a housekeeper or the front desk. We did witness some guest yelling in the lobby and the police showed up. we decided it was best not to go into the lobby to check out we did not want our children to witness the behavior as the parents of the 3 young kids were allowing their kids to witness their behavior. We can't wait to go back in September. The pool stayed cleaned and they all worked like busy bees never once did we see an employee not doing something. Breakfast is just right to get your day started and the attendant was so friendly. We also noticed on the weekends the attendant changed and they were amazing and then we saw them doing housekeeping as well later in the day. Looks like everyone works together to get the job done!

I have been staying at this hotel for years, since it was the Best Western Ocean Reef Suites. This was my first stay with my family since the Wingate by Wyndham takeover. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. Even if the room was free, I would not return. We had two large level leaks in our living room area under an electrical outlet, the first soaking our belongings and causing our son to slip and fall when returning from the beach. They claimed they repaired it, only to have the same leak the next day. We also had a dripping leak in the bedroom from the ceiling. The floors were disgustingly dirty and grimy. We did not have a phone or any way to contact the front desk. Our remotes were missing batteries. The coffee maker was broken. Some of the furniture, including the pull out sofa was still wrapped in plastic. Several days of our trip, the water was shut off to the entire hotel for hours at a time with no warning, leaving us with small children who came back from the beach wet, cold and unable to shower before preplanned family photographs. Our door did not latch tightly unless it was slammed from the inside and the deadbolt locked. The “hot” breakfast was a joke with two options, and a grouchy attendant who accosted my husband for bringing food back to our room for my small child while as still asleep. They often did not have coffee or yogurt as directed us to use our room coffee maker, however ours didn’t work. One of two property elevators are nonfunctional, leaving hotel guests and the construction crew all sharing the same elevator, often having two wait 4-5 times while a full and dirty elevator full of equipment passed by. We watched as worked filled their vehicles with old furnishings and spent more time on the balconies of the rooms they were renovating looking at the beach and listening to music than anything else. The real deal breaker was that every time we had a problem, no one cared or attempted to help us. First we were told there was no manager due to the transition. Then we were told that the manager wasn’t coming in on that specific day. The story always changed. On the last day as we checked out, there was a line of dissatisfied guests all asking to speak with the manager about the states of their rooms and the multitude of problems. The manager refused to speak to any of the guests, and instructed the front desk attendant that she had contacted authorities to charge all the guests in the lobby with trespassing. I was never able to speak to anyone other than the front desk clerk, they took our money and then had police officers tell all the unhappy guests they had to leave immediately. This place is a sham and a joke, I have never seen such an absence of customer service, they literally look you in your face and tell you they do not care about your problems and that they will not offer and solutions, rebate or refund. What they are doing should be, and probably is, a crime.

This hotel is just horrible. Please don’t stay here! It’s like staying in a construction zone. Our room was horribly dirty when we checked in. We had 3 water leaks come from the ceiling over the 5 days we were there from the room above us. The front desk acted annoyed when we told them about it. The hotel randomly turns off water to the entire building in the afternoons. Management doesn’t care at all, they’re rude. Good luck getting another roll of toilet paper - this is a no service hotel. We witnessed the front desk call the cops on two different parties when they asked to speak to a manager about the issues they had while staying there. I asked to speak to the manager and was told that there wasn’t a manager. The lady working the breakfast room gave me a hard time about taking food back to my room for my kids. The place is just a disaster. I could go on for days.

I have stayed here before and there was a Murphy bed in living room and dining room table. There wasn't one but had been told there was one. Carpet was stained, main door hard to get into, balcony door wouldn't stay shut unless locked, and a light was out. There was no breakfast that I was aware of. Will go elsewhere next time.
