Spent Christmas as usual at Titchwell, as we have done for over 10 years, on their 3 day Christmas package which we've loved for the quality of the food, the fantastic staff and wonderful Christmas atmosphere. Unfortunately this was our last year. Titchwell is now part of the Chestnut Group and this Christmas was truly appalling. There was not enough staff on duty for the amount of guests and no manager to oversee them so service was very slow during meal times resulting in long waits between courses. But shout out to Aranka and Ronaldo who did their best with little support. The food was not 3AA rosette standard, Food was poor quality served on cold plates and was lukewarm at best. No dish we had came out as described on the menu, there was always something missing. No 2 plates of the same meal came out the same, one beef dish had roast potatoes, the other a potato terrine. One had bernaise sauce the other didn't. The Christmas Day Lunch supposedly the highlight of the stay was a slice of low grade turkey roll served with 3 barely cooked brussel sprouts, 3 small roast potatoes, half a carrot and some red cabbage. The plate was cold so the gravy had actually set into a gelatinous blob before it reached the table, there was no stuffing, no cranberry sauce and no additional veg. I'd have got a better meal at a Toby carvery!.I have never before left a Christmas lunch hungry. If this is the future for Titchwell those 3 AA rosettes won't be there much longer. It's such a shame another independent hotel taken over by a corporate company and not for the better. To add insult to injury on departing they tried to impose a 12.5% surcharge per person on meals, even though we were on an inclusive package. It was removed when questioned but I wonder how many people didn't notice and paid it
