"What an amazing guesthouse!! So glad I picked this one out of so many options! The owner called in advance to ask about my arrival method and time, then proactively added me on WeChat to send directions. When I arrived at the gate, I was truly surprised – a charming, ancient-style courtyard with a koi pond in the middle. They even offered complimentary afternoon tea, which you could enjoy by the pond. They also gave us a costume voucher, which made the kids incredibly happy, and we took so many beautiful photos in the courtyard! The room was clean and tidy, and they even provided fruit. We had a great night's rest 👍 The breakfast the next day was a beautiful nine-grid style meal, showing how much effort the owner puts into taking care of guests. Every staff member was incredibly friendly and helpful… Next time I come to Dali, I'll definitely stay for a few more days to truly soak in its beauty!"

"Found a hidden gem! I could rave about this guesthouse in Dali Ancient City a million times over!
The moment I opened the door, I felt such a warm welcome. The room was so spotless it literally shined, not a speck of dust even in the corners. The blackout curtains were amazing – a true blessing for late sleepers like me, I could totally sleep in until I woke up naturally. The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the ancient city. It was super convenient to step out and explore the local eateries; there were authentic snacks and restaurants everywhere, so I never had to worry about finding food.
The owner was incredibly kind, warm, and friendly. It felt just like visiting relatives, so comfortable. The biggest surprise was that the guesthouse even offered traditional Bai ethnic costumes and intangible cultural heritage bags for guests to wear and use for free! They made for fantastic photos, perfect for blowing up your social media feeds!
And here's the highlight! The owner's son is absolutely adorable! He's tall, 186cm, sunny, handsome, and incredibly thoughtful. Whether you want to visit off-the-beaten-path attractions or try authentic local 'fly-restaurant' eateries, he can give you precise recommendations – a true exclusive tour guide!

"I had a soothing and comfortable short stay at 山隅一舍. The staff was very personable, accommodating, and kind, proactively offering tea/coffee and prepared fruit. The room was clean and had a great view of the courtyard. At check-in, she even offered to upgrade the two-bed room I had booked to a room with a single larger bed but I was happy to stay in the original room as it was already prepared. I stillfound it to be a very thoughtful offer. The beds were also equipped with heating mats, which offered great sleep in the winter weather. The neighbors have some roosters that rise early, but I found it quite charming and fitting for the “out of the big city” ambiance.
I could honestly just sit in the courtyard all day watching the cat and the fish. It was truly a tranquil oasis in a town that sees many domestic and international tourists. The breakfast also tasted clean, fresh, and was promptly prepared by the host when I woke up. She was also happy to offer recommendations to both myself and other guests (I even overheard her going the extra mile, offering to pickup pastries for the other guests to try at their request). The B&B is situated very close to the ancient town without being overwhelming, which although quite commercialized, is still a fun stroll since it’s nearby. The location is also a short DiDi ride away from many sights along Erhai Lake. Dali is full of independently-run accommodations and shops like this, but this one stood out for its great hospitality and soothing environment. The cost performance was also great. A hidden gem for sure!"

"I believe everyone worries most about hotel or Airbnb accommodations when traveling. I'm quite picky personally, but this place gave me an excellent experience! The bedding was very comfortable, and the front desk service was fantastic – very welcoming. They'd greet me every time I came and went and ask if I wanted anything to drink. Their coffee is really good, in my opinion. The staff member was incredibly friendly and even helped me with my luggage up and down the stairs, haha, I'm so grateful! Breakfast is served in a set meal format and can be delivered to your room, but I chose to eat in the first-floor restaurant. What surprised me was that breakfast is made fresh to order – that's a huge plus! 👍🏻 Highly recommend. Both the fourth and fifth floors have balconies, so you don't need to go out to watch the sunrise; you can see it right from the hotel's fifth floor. For those planning to stay, the sunrise is between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. Highly, highly recommend!!!"

"Beautiful room in a restored courtyard. The staff was extremely kind and willing to help - they picked us up from the train station, provided good advice for places to eat, and organised transport for our ongoing journey at an excellent price. They even gave us fruits, yoghurts, and desserts at night. There’s a really cute cat roaming around the courtyard.
The location is perfect, walking distance from the old town and the three pagodas. There’s a local food market around the corner in the morning.
We couldn’t have asked for anything better! Highly recommended!"

"The facilities are excellent, very clean, and the environment is lovely with a great night view, which the kids really enjoyed. The hotel staff were incredibly welcoming and even gave us a small gift when we checked out. The only downside was that the suite we stayed in was next to an equipment room, and it was a bit noisy at night. Other than that, everything else was great. I hope they can improve the soundproofing for the equipment room."

"Traveling with my parents, I found this place to have the best location and high ratings. I messaged the owner beforehand about our situation, and she was very kind, arranging a ground-floor room for us. The inn isn't wooden, so soundproofing is excellent. It's tucked away in an alley, making it very quiet. From the fourth floor, you can catch both sunrise and sunset. My parents found it very comfortable, and they also promptly accommodated my work needs. They took great care of us these past few days. A big thank you to the owners for their hard work and for our encounter! 😀
We ate at the restaurant recommended by the owner two nights in a row!
Two-Day Stay Includes One-Day Erhai Lake Bus Tour: Booking was smooth; just a quick word with the owner. The itinerary was packed, covering many places in one day – quite good value for money. They do take you to a spot where you can ride horses, feed peacocks, and do tie-dye, which involves some spending. They also promote flower cakes and mushroom snacks on the bus, but there's no pressure to buy.
Welcome Fruit: The fruit here is definitely better than what we get up north!"

When checking in, the owner put a protective sleeve over my ID before returning it to me, which was a thoughtful gesture.
After I got my room, the owner took out a map of Erhai Lake and its surroundings, explaining the features of various attractions and recommending itineraries. They also suggested local eateries nearby.
2. **Well-Equipped & Spotlessly Clean**
The guesthouse has a tea room (where you can practice calligraphy and drink tea) and a pavilion. Plus, there are 13 cats and 2 dogs you can cuddle with!
In the room, you'll find a smart toilet, a dryer, and a foot bath (perfect for soaking tired feet after a day of exploring).
3. **Convenient Location**
It's centrally located to all the attractions, making it easy to get anywhere.
4. **Warm & Welcoming Atmosphere**
This guesthouse feels like more than just a temporary stop; it's a 'sanctuary, a temporary home for travelers.'
The owner is from Northeast China, and you can really feel their straightforward personality and kind heart. They've rescued many cats and dogs.
The staff were incredibly detailed with their instructions, like ”the slippers are slippery, don't wear them into the bathroom” or ”how to use XX, where XX is, if XX has a problem, find me.” They even gave us a huge fruit platter!
I only stayed for two nights and it wasn't enough; I wanted to extend my stay but couldn't due to my train ticket.
If I come back to Dali next time, I'll definitely return to see the cats and dogs again!"

"Came to Dali for Chinese New Year and stayed at a really nice hotel! It's run by a few young guys and girls who are super warm, attentive, and thoughtful; their service is absolutely 100%. I heard the guesthouse was just renovated last year, so the whole place feels new, and the facilities seem very well-maintained, which made for a great experience. The best part is they have two super well-behaved and adorable Shiba Inus! Petting the cats and dogs after a day out exploring was incredibly satisfying. Since it was Chinese New Year and run by young people, the guesthouse was decorated with a strong festive vibe, and the atmosphere was really lovely. They'd remind us every day about afternoon tea and breakfast. Both our room and the large second-floor terrace offered views of Cangshan Mountain. The weather these past few days has been fantastic, making Cangshan look incredibly beautiful and Erhai Lake stunning. All in all, a truly wonderful experience!"
