Koh Chang Beach Hotel Guide

With an area of 429 square kilometers, Koh Chang Island is the second largest island in Thailand. It is located in Trat Province in the east, bordering Cambodia more than 300 kilometers from Bangkok. There are also 52 islands around Koh Chang and at present, 47 of them have been mapped into the Mu Ko Chang National Park. The total area of the park is over 650 square kilometers.

Koh Chang is a long-established name among travelers, though it was not opened to international tourism until recently. Koh Chang is located in the Gulf of Thailand, southeast of Pattaya. Surrounded by mountains, the untouched island almost seems to be frozen in time. The entire island is ecological paradise and the entire western coast is full of pristine, undeveloped sandy beaches, including Saikhao, Hat Klong Prao, and Kai Bae. The waters of Koh Chang are also uncontaminated and crystal clear, making them ideal for snorkeling. The best dive sites include Hin Luk Bat, Bird Land with its magnificent coral reefs, and Koh Lao Ya Nai which is known for its sharks and squid.

There is an archipelago on the south side of Koh Chang made up of 24 islands. Koh Kut is one of the must-see places. The island has a population of less than 2,000 and is a very interesting place. Koh Chang has been listed as a national park since 1992 and since then, hiking routes have gradually developed in the lush tropical rain forest. One of the main routes is known as the Kai Bae-Bang Bao Trail – visitors can’t miss it. When it’s not a holiday, there are very few people on the island and it’s known to be quite safe and quiet. There is no nightlife on the island, so it’s a great place for pure relaxation. In addition to swimming and diving, you can rent motorcycles on the island to visit several waterfalls. Motorbike rentals cost about THB 70 per hour. More than 90% of the resorts and hotels in Koh Chang are concentrated on several beaches on the West Bank. If you do not plan to stay long, do not consider the hotels in the east coast because transportation there is inconvenient.
