The Viewpoint Resort met all our expectations and more. It is beautifully located in the middle of nature, you feel as though you are staying in the jungle ( note bring insect repellent) We were warmly welcomed with refreshing lemongrass tea and cooled face towels. Due to lack of availability at the time of booking we couldn’t book the same room for the full length of our stay which meant changing room three times! However, the VP staff made the transfers stress free and we concluded that it had given us an opportunity to see three different types of rooms all were stunning. Our first room was a sea view cottage with a balcony looking out to sea. Our second, Pool Villa 2 was breath taking. To sit in our own pool over looking the ocean watching the sunset was priceless. Breakfast is delivered to your room ( or you can choose to eat in the restaurant). Our final room was deluxe beachfront bungalow which was extremely spacious and had a view of the sea and small beach below. Would be ideal for a family as the seating area is huge. Other details: although VP is a little isolated in terms of location, they arrange pick up and drop off from the pier which is super convenient and complimentary taxi service is offered on certain days/times to Sairee beach. Outside of these days there is a small charge. Day trips, onward travel etc can be arranged at reception. We had booked a dining experience at The Gallery Restaurant ( see separate review ) and the hotel transport dropped us off which worked well however their pick up stops at 9.30 so you’ll need to arrange your own transport after this time. The Cape restaurant setting is beautiful , right on the water, food and service is excellent as is the breakfast offering - wide selection plus omelettes, waffles and pancakes cooked to order. The resort is spotlessly clean and staff are visible everywhere ensuring that this is maintained. All the staff we encountered were extremely polite, friendly and helpful. Just a small word of warning - the nearest beach is Chalok Bay which has some great restaurants and a great chilled vibe however the walk to get there is not without its hazards and IMO is certainly not suitable for children or those with impaired mobilty. you can however get a taxi there /back for 400 BHT each way. The whole resort is set on different levels which adds to the whole aesthetic but would be a challenge for children or those with mobility issues. Our time at VP was extremely memorable and we would love to return.

We just loved this Hotel. I spend a lot of time deciding before reserving Hotels and no regrets here!!! We had 2 seaview rooms. The view from our room ( 08 )was awesome. Will probably go back to this Hotel for the views. Seaview rooms not huge but comfy and cozy and adequatly big for a short stay. The small beach is just dreamy, we loved it. Restaurant Top, great choice of Thai and european food . The personnel at the restaurant are wonderful, a special thanks to "Tata" and her husband. Wonderful people. The reception team efficient . We rented scooters through the reception from,a local rental shop. We recieved them rapidly but the helmets were crap and keep an eye on the petrol level as our friends ran out almost immediatly, luckily we were 2 couples. As mentioned by others, the roads are steep , but some are dangerous once you leave the main roads. We went to Tanote beach, no problem but 1 km from Mango bay we turned back as the road got more and more narrow and frankly dangerous. The only drawback of this Hotel would be for people with mobility problems as everything is on different levels without elevator and also avoid the Hotel if you have small children , OMG, no way!! Otherwise don't hesitate, absolutly fabulous!!

This was my second visit to Koh Tao, and being a bit longer I thought I would treat myself a bit. I booked a Beach View Deluxe room, which could sleep at least 4 - I think they advertise 3. It was very spacious, HUGE comfy bed looking straight out over the balcony to the beach and the sea. Two of these rooms are higher up, one is lower so consider this when booking. I was higher up and would sleep with the doors open being lulled by the gentle waves on the shore and sometimes a cooling breeze. The room was excellent - very spacious, plenty of storage, great bathroom with rain shower, big balcony and lots of amenities like dressing gowns, lots of towels for the bathroom and pool / beach, toiletries etc. Fridge, safe, hairdryer. The resort is at the end of a winding up and down road, BUT it is very well surfaced and well lit - just watch out for monitor lizards and falling coconuts! The pool is lovely - clean and seems well balanced. The sun does go off that area around 15:30, but by then you will welcome some respite from the sun. And the view is amazing. Food is very good with an extensive western and Thai menu. Room service very fast and good, but table service is worth it for the views and the ambiance. Breakfast is just great. Egg station with freshly made pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs. omelettes all cooked to order. I wide selection of cereals, pastries, cooked items like mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, potatoes etc. Part way through my trip I switched to a Garden View Room as the Beach View had already been booked. This was much cosier, but had a lovely vibe. These are in "the jungle" so you will get more visitors, and with the bathroom being semi-outdoor some might find this off-putting, but I liked it. You are supplied with mosquito repelling coils which work. Just be prepared that you may have squirrels, lizards and geckos running over the outside roof in the night. All adds to the amazing stay. The star are great - very helpful, happy and smiley and always welcoming. The site is on a steep slope - as it most of Koh Tao - but there was lots of help to move luggage. If your room is at the top, prepare for a hike down (and back up) for breakfast. If your room is at the bottom, prepare for a hike back up to reception - although one can walk around the beach to get to bars on the other side of the beach. A really lovely and peaceful resort, not too far from the main Sairee Beach area which is easily accessible my moped or taxi. I would happily stay there again.

Lobby is cool, but the rest of the hotel is pretty disappointing for a 3 star hotel. The hotel pool looks dated, and our room smelled like mildew and looked a little dark and dingy. There was also a stain on one of the throw pillows on the bed. Our AC was also not really working and we had to call in someone to fix it multiple times. Location is also not the most convenient, as it is on a very steep hill and you always need to call a taxi and we felt wary renting the scooters. The location does give it really nice views and we really enjoyed the views coming and going from the hotel -- probably the only redeeming quality of this place. We would not stay here again.

Gorgeous location!!!! Our view and room was stunning. Extremely good service and felt very well taken care of. Massages were awesome and could book right from the resort. Amazing restaurant with very kind people. Highly recommend staying here in a pool villa!!!

We stayed 4 nights in deluxe beachfront cottage and the view from our room , restaurant and pool was amazing, unfortunately that is where it stopped . We had no warm water only cold to shower in and air con not consistently cool , . The first 2 days we had fluffy white bath towels , but the last 2 days we had stained and freyed bath towels . We had been to other resorts prior to Viewpoint and mangoes were on offer at breakfast buffet , not so here , so we bought some from market to have and mango’s are in season here . We also brought our own bread from bakery to toast at breakfast as the bread was so not nice at all .The toaster took 6 times to toast in carousel toaster , so your eggs ended up cold . This resort is also open to outside visitors and on two occasions there was a rowdy crowd drinking in the pool , so not relaxing for guests that are staying there that like a quiet and relaxed time around the pool . We had dinner twice there and was lovely but overpriced compared to other resorts . We walked over to The Cove a few times and enjoyed a lovely dinner that also had friendly and attentive staff unlike the staff at Viewpoint which I had mentioned my concerns about and didn’t seem to care . Wi fi was inconsistent. This resort lacked genuine Thai hospitality and atmosphere and was the only resort that we wouldn’t return to .

My 4/5 rating results: We stayed 5 nights in the pool villa 3 General Service: The service is really outstanding with decent English skills. Whatever you wish they fulfill your request. At our arrival we have received towels and a welcome drink. Breakfast: The buffet Breakfast in the restaurant is great. You can have eggs, pancakes and waffles in different varieties cooked for you. The room service breakfast is not what we were expecting. The food was always delivered perfectly on time but it was cold and didn’t taste as good as in the restaurant. Cleaning service: Our Villa was perfectly cleaned daily. They did check when we were leaving for breakfast or for a trip and cleaned in the meantime. Prices for Trips at the Hotel: Prices in the hotel are slightly more expensive than outside. If you are expecting excellent service then you should consider booking right in the hotel. For us it was a snorcheling trip around the island which was great. Definitely would recommend. Prices in the handbook in your villa may vary. Please always check the prices directly at the reception. In general 4/5 would recommend! Best regards, Thomas

We stayed in Pool Villa 4 for 2 weeks for our honeymoon. The outdoor area, including the pool, is gorgeous- you have totally uninterrupted views of the sea. It is incredibly romantic and private. The staff at View Point are wonderful- everyone was lovely and couldn’t do enough to help- they really make the hotel special. We loved pre-ordering our breakfast and having this delivered to our room every morning. We also paid for the honeymoon package, which was pricey, but meant we had a special welcome, a couples massage, private candlelit dinner at their restaurant and a private longboat trip- all of which were fantastic. It’s only a short walk into Chalok Bay where you have lots of options, and theres a little shop just outside if you need anything. The hotel will also arrange motorbikes, kayaks, taxis etc if needed. There is some walking to do around the resort but this is to be expected when you are built into the side of a cliff, and this didn’t bother us at all! I’ve found it really hard to write this part of the review as there was so much we loved about View Point and it was a very special trip for us. However, it’s important to be honest, and as has been mentioned in other reviews, you are at one with nature during your stay. Sometimes, that is lovely, and we saw lots of butterflies, caterpillars, crabs, cats, birds and chinchillas. However, during our stay, we saw 3 very large spiders. The toilet is outdoors, and we saw the first two there, which we had expected. However, 3 nights before we left, there was a spider the size of my fist on the ceiling in our bedroom, which we have never experienced in a room in all my times of visiting Thailand (and we have stayed in much, much cheaper places). The staff, as always, were incredible, and as the whole hotel was fully booked, they scared the spider off, then checked the room and re-cleaned it for us, even though it was late in the evening. However, the rooms themselves are not practically designed to keep nature out of where you are sleeping eg gaps between doors, in the roof etc. We were so careful during our visit to make sure the doors were always closed behind us in the bedroom, but we still had this unwanted eight legged visitor. We also did not use the second room with the TV, due to large gaps between the roof and wall, meaning any creature could enter at any time. Whilst the villa is beautiful, and built in nature, some of the design is just not practical, and some aspects would need to be changed for us to stay again- for the price paid you should be able to sleep anxiety free, but we spent our final 3 nights with the lights on. If this doesn’t bother you, you will have no problem at all.

I can not recommend this place enough. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel really special, which if you have been travelling far or around Thailand in less luxurious accommodation feels amazing. The views are unparalleled and really are some of the best Koh Tao has to offer. Rooms are comfortable though the air con could be cooler. Do not let the location put you off. Yes it if further out but the hotel offers discounted taxi service which is quick and reliable. The views from the back of the pick up truck are incredible and riding through the hills in the car was so fun (you can sit in the actual car if you’d prefer). I was worried as didn’t want to rent a scooter but this service was super convenient. The pool and bar/restaurant were lovely. Beers are reasonable and breakfast was good. For the price this place feels super special and I would 100% recommend.
