Taatoh Seaview Resort

The hotel is okay,the location is a little bit far from the center. But it is really close to shark bay. The stairs are too steep. Not easy to walk.

Amazing location overlooking the sea. Staff were very helpful. Be aware there are a lot of steps to and from accommodation, so pleased the staff helped with our bags.

This place is a little rustic but has some real charm. Set in the rocks on the side of the bay, it is a little steep getting up to the restaurant and back down to the rooms but there are plenty of steps about and you soon get used to the short climb. The site may need a little touch up here and there but the views from the restaurant, the quality, value and flavours of the meals available as well as the efficiency, attentiveness and sheer friendliness of the staff makes up for it. We hired a bungalow which was two separate rooms (both with an ensuite) and with a shared balcony. The property also had a gate for privacy. This was ideal for us as a family of 5, although my youngest (10) had to sleep on a mattress on the floor which she wasn't initially impressed with. However, we had views of the bay from the balcony and, generally, the beds were comfortable and the place quiet. Infact, my husband and I slept with our bedroom doors open, as we could see the sea, and were woken by some beautiful sunrises each morning. We then dozed off again until breakfast. The staff were hugely accommodating and bent over backwards for us all. We were able to borrow the kayaks and life jackets to explore the bay and, for a small fee, the team were able to drop us wherever we needed to go on the island. My husband and I did some diving with Roctopus Dive School and my girls did some try dives but it was no-issue for the Taootoh staff to take and collect us from Sairee Beach. The bay has numerous turtles and each time we snorkelled we saw at least one. It was also highly amusing watching visiting tourist boats come to the bay as you could always tell when someone had spotted a turtle as suddenly a sea of orange (from the life jackets) would move around the bay together. The location of Taatoh is great. It's off the main road and away from the rest of the guesthouses/hotels but within walking distance (10 minutes tops) of the beach, bars and seafront. Just around the corner in the opposite direction is Freedom Beach. You pay a small fee to enter but it was worth it. The beach is small and secluded but the bar has many tables to chill at (overlooking the bay) as well as comfy beanbags. There are so many fish in the waters here and we were lucky enough to see some turtles. We absolutely loved it here and are so pleased we chose it over our other choice on the opposite side of the bay. My girls have asked to go back which is always a good sign! PS - They love cats and have quite a few pets, all well cared for and very friendly.

I could not recommend Mama Jim, and her place, enough! We had the most amazing vacation. The staff were so accommodating. After the first night my back was hurting badly. I've had spinal tumors removed. We were afraid we were going to have to switch resorts, and even then scared that most beds in Thailand appeared to be similar platform style beds. My husband mentioned it to Mama Jim, and in 3 hours she had the softest matress pad added to our bed. They also set up the most romantic dinner on our patio our last night there. The property is on the quiet side of the island, and only steps away from the most amazing 360° viewpoint. I could keep going. It's just a wonderful place. We are already planning on going back with our kids.

Only the view is good. Other than that, both the staff are discriminating. The food is not delicious, the room condition is not good, the smelly, a lot of dust, even if it is a lower level room (because that range is full), but should not choose a bad practice with people who book a lower level room

We stayed for just one night at the Taatoh Seaview Resort. It was quite a journey from Koh Samui. The ferry was fun and Koh Tao was very busy when we arrived. However the hotel had a truck on standby to take us to the hotel. We arrived before the check in time and our room was ready almost instantly. We had the junior suite I think and it was two rooms, one for me and one for my daughter. The beds were extremely comfortable. The air conditioning was perfect. The mosquito nets very pretty and effective. We didn’t get any mosquito bites whilst staying there. The steps down to the beach are extremely challenging for someone my age (see my YouTube video) and the beach is very small. However, this isn’t about the beach it’s about the snorkelling in Shark Bay. My daughter had never done snorkelling and it had been a few decades since I had but we absolutely loved it. The hotel supplied life jackets, goggles, I think there was a small fee for flippers. It was brilliant. The food was lovely. Not expensive. Big hearty dishes. Great shrimps rolls. Amazing curry. The staff were the best but if our stay. From the young man who drove the shuttle service van to the ladies on the reception and all the staff. They were friendly, helpful, funny, relaxed and cool. They really helped make us feel comfortable and welcome. I’ve rated the hotel stay as 5 out of 5. It’s not a luxury Hilton… or a big brand hotel. It’s a quirky, handmade independent hotel in the jungle. It’s not perfect… sometimes it hard work… but put it all together and my daughter and I had the best time. We stayed 1 night. I was really sad to leave. I wanted to stay 100 nights. Chill, relaxed, quirky, challenging location, beautiful experience.
