Koyasan Shukubo Saizenin

It was a very unique experience. The temple was beautiful, the town had amazing energy and the cemetery was a very special place.

We had a wonderful time at this temple lodging. The staff and the monks were very kind and the food was super delicious! It has a wonderful atmosphere and a very nice pond with cute fishies. Toilets and shower/ bathing were communal, but we barely met someone and it's close to the room, comfortable and clean. The hall for the morning prayers is pretty cold in the morning so you should consider bringing a jacket, but I highly recommend to take part, it was a great experience without pressure.

It was interesting to stay here but we felt more information would help. I think they could have given us some information about the temple, who lives or works there and how it functions. Also a look round the temple would have helped as what we felt was we were in a Japanese style room which could have been anywhere. There was an ‘efficient’ check in but certainly not a friendly greeting. Thankfully later on there were more friendly people at reception. The meals were beautifully presented but again a lack of information as we didn’t know what some of the things were or in which order it would be best to eat them. The ceremony in the morning was excellent but again a missed opportunity at the end to allow guests to look round as the doors were locked immediately afterwards. You have to pay quite a lot to stay here and as it’s a unique experience there should be more offered to make it different to just staying in a hotel.

This is a very nice place that enables one to participate in a Buddhist ceremony. Beautiful and heart opening.

The room was very spacious and traditional. The bathroom had a japanese bath which we appreciated very much. The monks were very welcoming and nice, they explained everything. We also attended the morning prayer at 7 am. Overall it was a great experience. The dinner and breakfast were delicious.

If you never try temple stay this is a must. Cons side u only bath once a day from 4pm to 8pm. With 4 person sharing the same bath tub. Upside the room given is so luxurious and night dining in room. But as this is temple expect all vegetarian.

Very clean & quiet place. Very close to one of the main temples in town.

Superb temple in the Main Street of Koyasan. The food was delicious, the people charming and the whole experience excellent!

Very good atmosphere. Breakfast and dinner was excellent.
