Zhongwei Green Lake Hotel

Five stars, highly recommended! This is an old, established state guesthouse in Kunming that you absolutely must stay at. Its heritage, views, and service are all top-notch. The location is unbeatable, directly facing Cuihu Park. Open the French windows and you're greeted with lake views and weeping willows. In autumn and winter, you can even spot red-billed gulls. Yunnan University and the Yunnan Military Academy are within walking distance, making it convenient for exploring the old city without much travel. The hotel's design was partly conceived by I.M. Pei, blending new Chinese style with retro Art Deco. The lobby's gilded lotus sculpture, rosewood carvings, and vintage staircase create an incredible ambiance. The gardens are tranquil and elegant, and every photo you take captures the unique, understated elegance of a historic five-star hotel. Service is gentle, understated, and perfectly balanced, never intrusive. Upon check-in, guests receive fresh flowers and welcome fruits, and the room is refreshed daily with Yunnan-style floral arrangements. Turndown service includes peach gum and white fungus soup, along with seagull-shaped cookies – thoughtful details that truly shine. The 24-hour butler service is on-call, and staff members politely greet guests, always professional and sincere. The room comfort exceeded expectations. The bedding is soft and plush, and the soundproofing is excellent. During the dry season, the whole-house humidity control system is a lifesaver, especially for those with allergies. The bathroom features a built-in TV in the bathtub and electric privacy glass. All mini-bar drinks are complimentary, and there's even freshly ground Yunnan small-grain coffee, adding a distinct local touch. Breakfast is served in the lake-view restaurant, offering a rich variety of authentic dishes, including freshly prepared Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles, 'posu bao' (flaky steamed buns), and rose 'naiba Jiu' (a local milky wine). Dining by the lake creates an exceptional atmosphere. The accompanying heated pool is clean and uncrowded, perfect for relaxation. Whether for business or leisure, this hotel is perfectly suited. Its century-old refined quality is irreplaceable. I will definitely choose Cuihu Hotel again on my next visit to Kunming!

Excellent! It's clean and tidy, and the breakfast buffet offers a fantastic variety of high-quality options. Cuihu Park is right across the street, so you can enjoy the birds singing in the morning, which is a great start to the day. Plus, there are plenty of dining and entertainment choices all around.

Always trust the quality of established hotels. This hotel is perfect in terms of location, surrounding environment, and service attitude. I especially want to commend the service; it feels like service is a top priority in their hotel training. For example, we came back from Dounan Flower Market with a bouquet of flowers, and a staff member immediately jogged over to proactively ask if we needed a vase, which was incredibly thoughtful. As for the location, the hotel is right next to the famous Huang Gong Dong Street, a popular spot for photos. If you keep walking along it, go up the glass skywalk and down the pedestrian bridge, you'll reach the old town seamlessly. Across from the hotel is Cuihu Lake, perfect for simply relaxing. Finally, I envy the people of Kunming; it's a wonderfully livable place.

This veteran five-star hotel still has the elegance you'd expect. While some parts are a bit dated, it's generally acceptable, though the bathroom setup makes it hard to keep the wet and dry areas separate. The service was standard, neither outstanding nor poor. The best part of breakfast was the pastries; they were clearly homemade with excellent ingredients, you could taste it in every bite. Breakfast was very crowded, and it was often hard to find a table. Its location by Cuihu Lake is unbeatable, perfect for tourists. The swimming pool looked nice, but I didn't get a chance to use it.

The hotel's location is excellent; right outside, you'll find Cuihu Lake, and to the left is the famous Huang Gong Street, with beautiful scenery at every step, very artistic. After walking through Huang Gong Street, you reach Wenlin Coffee Street, which is incredibly convenient. Taxis in Kunming are also quite affordable, so getting around from the hotel is easy. Highly recommend! The hotel itself has a vintage feel, probably due to its 70-year history. The overall environment is very comfortable. The staff's service attitude is good, and they respond quickly. Breakfast offers a rich variety, including local specialties like Xidoufen (pea flour porridge), Baijiuniang Milk (fermented glutinous rice milk), rice noodles, and Ersi (rice cake strips). The only downside might be that the western restaurant is a bit small, and it can be hard to find a table during peak breakfast hours. Otherwise, everything else is great.

Always convenient and reliable, just as before. There's a new trendy street nearby now, perfect for photos, and some interesting new shops have opened up, making the area even more exciting! The staff are also incredibly kind. Xiao Kong, Xiao Fan, and Xiao Zhang provided a seamless experience, even escorting me to the elevator entrance. Their service is truly exceptional! I'll definitely be back. It feels like visiting old friends in Kunming.

Having stayed in numerous five-star hotels, both domestic and international, this one definitely has its highlights, but also some noticeable flaws: 1) **Location:** Extremely convenient. It's super easy to get anywhere from here. 2) **Ambiance:** It's right across from Cuihu Park, with beautiful lotus flowers, playful squirrels, and egrets returning to their nests in the evening. The hotel is also right by the famous Huang Gong Dong Street, which attracts many people for photos. The hotel rooms are very quiet, but on Huang Gong Dong Street, there are many paid photography services that hog the spots, making it hard to get a good photo yourself. 3) **Service:** Excellent. Everyone greets guests proactively, and the housekeeping staff are particularly friendly and helpful. 4) **Cleanliness:** Acceptable. 5) **Breakfast:** Quite varied, and the staff were quick to clear used dishes. 6) **Facilities:** This is where the significant flaws lie. The hotel rooms don't have a separate shower, only a bathtub. The bathtub looks quite old, and the showerhead attached to it was completely dysfunctional – no matter how I adjusted it, the water flow was all wrong. I ended up having to shower under a few strong, erratic jets, feeling like I was showering under a fountain for two days – quite a traumatic experience! 😅 7) **Overall:** If they could just replace that faulty showerhead with one that works properly, I would definitely stay here again. Also, while most five-star hotels don't typically have self-service laundry rooms, many guests here are tourists. Having a self-service laundry facility would be a huge plus!

A great hotel with a prime location right by Cuihu Park. The service was excellent, and the breakfast was good. The staff were very polite and professional. The room decor was also lovely.

I stayed for 5 days in total, here are my thoughts: The hotel is beautiful, every corner is meticulously designed and heavily invested, exuding the aesthetics of 1956. It's definitely worth experiencing. It's also great for photos. Although some details in the room are a bit old and the facilities are somewhat average, the overall ambiance outweighs these shortcomings, so it's still a worthwhile choice. The service was also very attentive and excellent. The fruit platter in the room was replenished daily with various seasonal fruits, which was a thoughtful touch. In the evening, they would deliver things like white fungus soup (though we didn't drink it), but it left a very good impression. The butler was also very professional and accommodated all our needs. The pool was clean, and the longer we stayed over the 5 days, the more comfortable it became. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Kunming. Additionally, I have some personal suggestions for improvement: 1. There are too few non-smoking twin rooms. We were involuntarily assigned to a smoking floor (10th floor), which they claimed had been treated to remove smoke odors. However, for the first two days, there was still a strange smell of smoke mixed with old carpet, an indescribable odor, which made it difficult to sleep well. It was quite bothersome. I hope more non-smoking floors can be added, and that room odors are thoroughly dealt with. The carpets could also be cleaned more frequently. 2. The shower is located inside the bathtub. Even with a shower curtain, water would inevitably flow over the edge of the tub, leaving the entire bathroom floor wet after showering. This was very inconvenient. We had to use towels to block the edge of the tub each time we showered, which helped a little, but water still escaped. I hope there's a way to improve this. 3. The wall near the room entrance has a thick, leather-like texture, but the surface is aged, with many pieces of the outer layer peeling off and flaking. I hope this can be improved. 4. Overall cleanliness still has room for improvement. When we first checked in, there were many water stains on the bathroom mirror! 5. The breakfast was generally delicious, but compared to other 4- and 5-star hotels, it lacked stir-fried rice and stir-fried noodles. I hope more stir-fried dishes can be added. Not everyone likes rice noodles, and if you don't eat them, the other main course options are quite limited. 6. There's no swimsuit spin dryer in the changing rooms by the pool, and the pool doesn't have lane dividers. These are points that I feel could be improved.
