CHION-IN WAJUN-KAIKAN

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple Kyoto|0.39km from Anyoji Temple
This wonderful place is nothing like the rustic version we stayed at in Yudenaka. It is more like an upscale boutiqe hotel. Only 3 floors, but very well kept. Our room was one of the largest we experienced during the 2 weeks we were in Japan. We chose to decline the meal package as we expected we would be out during the dinner time, and did not want to commit to breakfast, as my wife is a very fussy eater. A public bath for men and a bath for women is located in the basement. Exceptionally clean and properly set up in the shower area and bath area,. I chose to take advantage of the bath each evening. It is so incredibly relaxing. The bath is not heated by thermal springs but whatever they use to heat the building. The front desk staff could not be more helpful during our stay. When a snowstorm hit Kyoto, it meant the shipping company that we chose to forward our large suitcases was no longer viable since the company cancelled all trips that day. When we got up the next morning we discovered that the taxi cab companies were not answering the phones that morning(due to snow and ice). The front desk looked at my wife and I with 4 suitcases, my cane and walker and somehow just knew that we couldnt possibly get to the Kyoto station using public transit. The tall, thin gentleman behind the desk, went outside and ran at his fastest speed, 3 blocks to find a idle taxi, ran back to us, still checking out, took all of our luggage outside to the waiting taxi, assisted with the loading, ensuring that we were safely inside and on our way before he went back inside, hopefully to have a well earned cup of tea. The service is outstanding, the meal to my eyes looked incredible. The rooms have ample space for luggage, fully stocked bathrooms, Yukatas for wearing to the bath and 2 bottles of water daily. They also include a small refrigerator. If I should be so fortunate to visit Japan again in my lifetime, this will be my must stay hotel. THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH CHION-IN WAJUN KAIKAN!!! EXCELLENT STAFF AND OUTSTANING SERVICE. THANK YOU SO MJCH FOR HELPING MAKE THIS DREAM VACATION SO SPECIAL!!!

This place is INCREDIBLE! I have no other words for it other than the most pleasant stay I could ever imagine having at a traditional Japanese ryoken. We opted for daily traditional kaseki breakfasts that were served in our room with tea and coffee, would sit at the bar and chat with the staff and sample their great Japanese whiskey collection, enjoyed our beautiful spa-like bathroom with private onsen, heated floors, temperature controlled shower area, and beds so comfy, you couldn't help but fall asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow. The staff were incredibly amazing and very quick to handle any needs we had—and they were SO friendly! We had several great and long conversations with them that they felt like friends more than hotel staff. The location was great too because you were a short walk to several temples, popular tourist sites and great food but was secluded enough that you felt like you could relax and detox from the chaos of other large cities in Japan. This was one of the best experiences during our 12-day stay in Japan. I highly highly recommend. One piece of information that might be helpful, the entrance can be difficult to find but the property will message specific instructions to show the taxi drivers so whether they know English or not, they'll be able to get you close to the entrance. Once dropped off, it's just a short walk to the entrance. But trust me, it's worth the search.

Hotel Yuraku Kyo-Yasaka

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple Kyoto|0.37km from Anyoji Temple
We stayed 3 nights at DoubleB room on 3rd floor. Room: Much larger than we thought. Luggage area with dressers, separate toilet with sink by the entry room, huge king size bed and love sofa next to the bed. Bathroom is very luxurious and tons of amenities (face mask, facial toner, hair band, cotton but NO shower cap-beware). Separate large tub with natural stone was deep and large enough for 2 ppl, separate handheld shower and rain shower with treetop views from win and large. almost feel like outdoor bath. Room was unexpectedly nice and large. Breakfast: Amazing kaiseki breakfast and this was unexpected with all fresh cooked rice, fish, eggs, and nabe. Lounge area: Free coffee/teas throughout the day and free wine/whiskey from 5-7pm. Very good tea selections (Hojicha, Green tea, Camomille tea, Orange tea, Earl Grey) and several kind of juice available, which was unexpected too. Staff: Check in was at the lounge individually while you are sitting in the lounge area. Hotel lady gave us wet towels and welcome tea and sweets, very nice touch. Staff was very personable and kind, very personable. Location: Steps to Kodaiji and it's around the corner of Nene road which leads to Kiyomizu. Steps to Yasaka Jinjya and Shijo, amazing location. I got the great rates (I reserved 3 months before hotel opened in 12/2022) : I will be afraid rates will go much higher when I return. This hotel should be ranked top #1 in the area soon. This location is amazing for people who is coming with car (has parking), or people who'd enjoy serene walking in the mountain side of Kyoto. It'll takes about 13 min to Shijo/Gion area where buses and subway station are located. It contains some hills so I would not recommended for people who is not good with walking. We loved this hotel and walked around this beautiful Gion/Kiyomizu area, hoping to come back soon!

Ryokan Motonago

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple Kyoto|0.5km from Anyoji Temple
Yuan Naigu’s Kyoto cuisine is three-star Michelin~ It's really a very satisfying Japanese experience with one night and two meals. Before I traveled, I wanted to experience a traditional ryokan, so I really did my homework. I wanted to live in Yachiyo. However, when I traveled during the peak period, the price rose to an outrageous level. I was looking for it. By coincidence, I found Yuan Naigu. Although Ctrip's diamond level is not high and the reviews are poor, it really exceeded expectations. The location is not to mention~ the scenic spot...the distance you can walk with your legs...anywhere is close... Although there is no private bath, you can make an appointment for the bath time. During that time, you will only have you~ You can check in at 4pm, but you can store your luggage in advance (will wipe your luggage clean). Although the uncle who helped us check in is not standard enough in English, he only needs some basic English and communicates. Completely proper. We will confirm with you in advance the time for dinner, bathing, breakfast the next day and morning bath (if you need it). In the room, there is no way to take a bath, only the sink and toilet, so if you need a bath, you must check the time~ this time the bath is completely yours. The service is very good (traditional Japanese kneeling service), everyone is very kind (there are few young people, all of whom are uncles and aunts), especially the aunt who was in charge of our Beijing cooking that night. She enthusiastically helped me and my husband to take a photo. , I also sent a beautiful postcard when I checked out and left. If you want to take a photo in front of the hotel, there will be very caring staff to help you ”stop” the guests entering and leaving the hotel, and help you take a beautiful photo~~It's really heartwarming. As for their cooking. If you want to experience one night and two food, Yuan Naigu really won't let you down. The level of Michelin three-star, good-looking, delicious and good shooting~ I want to experience it again with the reviews~ I really miss the very warm bed and the warmth on the pillow Heart thousand paper cranes. My husband also said that next time we come, we will stay here again~~It's really great~ Let a person who doesn't write very much reviews so much~~ The only downside is: check out at ten o’clock~~ I really want to stay a little longer~~~ There are too many pictures, everyone will take a look.

Japanese Inn Yoshimizu
4.5/58 Reviews
Gion/Kiyomizu Temple
We arrived to the Yoshimizu Japanese Inn after spending several days in Tokyo, which was a nice change of pace. This place was amazing from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. We were greeted by 'Sugar' (pronounced Su-ga) who was incredibly hospitable and kind through-out our visit. He provided us water right away, checked us in, and answered all questions we had, including dinner recommendations. The atmosphere is serene and quaint; located in the mountains, but still within walking distance of town, temples, and restaurants. My husband and I spent the evening enjoying the atmosphere of the room (which felt very traditional and authentic) with some wine and food. This stay really slowed our pace and helped to rejuvenate the remainder of our trip. We stayed for only 1 night, but if we would have known how wonderful this would be, we would have stayed longer. Also, I have to mention that the included breakfast was wonderful as well. I would highly recommend, especially for couples!

Gion Ryokan Karaku

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple
Being in Gion is to be transported back in old Kyoto. There are a lot of small, quaint structures with narrow paved streets. Lots of famous temples, shrines, eateries and souvenirs shopping (omiyage). Went with a friend, our highlights all within walking distance (20 min max): * Shrines and temples galore - visit early or late to avoid rush hour * Geisha watching * Nanaya kimono rental (there’s a ton of other rental places too) Dressed up for the afternoon. Got great photo ops along the streets and on a rickshaw rental. * Kasagi-ya for traditional sweets (ohagi) and tea in a old wooden shop atmosphere * Ghibli Studio fans, there are two shops within easy walking distance If you want to be in the thick of Gion, Ryokan Karaku is a wonderful place to stay. It’s four stories with elevator access and a very professional staff. You can confidently walk around and drop off goodies as you shop or need to take a break. Breakfast and kaiseki dinners were included in our rate, although next time I’d opt out of it so I can try other places. The staff called for taxi service whenever we needed and they were there in 5-10min (although they like to plan ahead when possible, we were mostly spontaneous). There weren’t mobs of people being that Japan has recently opened up and we went shortly after Golden Week). It was a great, memorable stay!

A very interesting ryokan, although the price is slightly expensive, but it is very comfortable and satisfying to live in Hotel features: 1 Pure Japanese-style room, the space is enough, the small Japanese-style courtyard is also very chic, air-conditioned hot water TV, free snacks instant noodles, and fruits (melon and banana) twice a day 2 The most important thing is that there is a Japanese dance* performance every Saturday night, invited by the boss, and interacting with geisha to play games, and in the end many people left, and were invited to sing karaoke together , with friends from all over the world, the experience is very good! The president is very interesting. He was invited to perform Japanese songs. The service staff are also very good. I highly recommend coming here!
