Don't be put off by the hotel's terrible room photos. The bathroom was actually really good, easy to clean, and much cleaner than what the pictures showed. I almost avoided this place at first! The hotel itself is quite new, and the hallway before you enter is actually quite nice. Step outside, and there's a convenience store to your left and right, plus a drugstore with lots of discounted snacks (turn left). There are plenty of food options nearby. A few hundred meters away, there's an all-you-can-eat yakiniku place run by an old couple. If you're particular about meat quality, you might want to skip it, but if you just want to eat a lot of meat, it's worth checking out. It's 2980 yen for two people minimum; they don't serve single diners because the portions are so big they're afraid you'll waste food. (Restaurant: Ushi Taro). You can buy drinks and lettuce downstairs to bring up, and they'll wash it for you. When we went, the old couple kept trying to tell us not to order the more expensive set, insisting the 2980 yen one was enough (and they were right, we were stuffed after just one plate of meat). The hotel is genuinely good, and the air conditioning works great. If you want to see deer at Nara Park, just turn left out the hotel, cross the street, and take the bus directly there. It's only 1-2 stops, very quick. Look to your right, and you'll pretty much see deer everywhere.

The room was a bit small and the soundproofing was terrible; you could hear motorcycles and ambulances all night from the street. The hygiene was good, and the cleaning staff were very thorough. However, the service was quite poor. We had a child, but there were no kids' toothbrushes or slippers, and we had to ask for them. At breakfast on the ground floor, the staff on our last day offered an omelet menu and disposable bibs for children, which we had no idea were available on the first two days. On the other hand, the lounge staff were all excellent and even enthusiastically helped us find out where to buy Hokas.
