Minn Nijo-jo

It was a Saturday, so other hotels were more expensive. We arrived in Kyoto in early July and walked over from Shijo-Omiya after 11 PM. Perhaps because it was a late check-in, I found the night shift staff a bit cold. There's a design feature on the table in our double room that my taller husband bumped his head on twice. I've always liked the Nijo area of Kyoto; the alleys are very quiet at night, but there are actually many shops to explore nearby. Plus, the exterior of the hotel is quite distinctive, and there's also a charming area next to the front desk. However, there are many hotels in front of Nijo Castle in Kyoto, so I'd consider this place again if the price were lower overall.

It was very clean and great! I couldn't use the washing machine, but they kindly let me check out at 12:00, which I really appreciated.

I booked a non-smoking Japanese-Western style room, but they gave me a completely different one. When I tried to confirm with the hotel, they couldn't give me immediate feedback, which was a terrible experience. And checking in was super cumbersome; it was the first time I'd seen a hotel require you to scan a QR code, register, fill out a ton of personal info, and become a member before you could even check in. The room type I eventually got wasn't bad, but anyone considering staying here should definitely think twice. I will absolutely not book this place again.

It's strange how different Minn hotels have varying amenities. This one has a great location, but the room is much smaller than other Minn properties and doesn't even have a kitchenette.

Overall, I was very satisfied. For Kyoto, the room was quite spacious and very clean. However, the location is a bit far out, but considering the price, it offers good value for money.

The room, bathroom, and shower room were all spacious, allowing us to relax comfortably! The building also had a lovely Kyoto-esque feel to it. There were complimentary drinks in the lobby. Just a heads-up that pajamas and toothbrushes aren't provided, but I knew that beforehand so it wasn't an issue. It's a bit of a walk from the station, but it's close to the shopping street, which was great for exploring in the evenings and mornings! I'd love to try a different room type next time.
