The Royal Park Hotel Kyoto Umekoji

Located on the westernmost side of Kyoto Station, next to the Railway Museum, the location isn't ideal, to be honest. I was hoping for a quieter hotel away from the city center, but to my surprise, it was packed with people – it felt like a United Nations conference! The hotel facilities were fine, and they provided high-quality toiletries. I didn't dare go to the public bath as it was full of all sorts of people. The breakfast had a great variety and tasted excellent. It's convenient for getting to Kyoto Station and Arashiyama.

This resort-style hotel is just one train stop from Kyoto. It's super convenient, literally a one-minute walk from the station exit. Plus, there's a park, a railway museum, and the Kyoto Aquarium right next to it. For sightseeing, the bus stop for Kinkaku-ji is a 3-minute walk away, and for Kiyomizu-dera, it's 7 minutes – great location overall! We had two adults and one child, and the room was quite spacious for Japan, with three beds. The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area and a bathtub. The breakfast was generous, and they even had a large public bath.

The location is decent, but being very close to Kyoto Station means the trains are always packed. Breakfast offers a good variety and tastes alright. There's a convenience store downstairs, but not much else in terms of shops or restaurants nearby. Cleanliness and housekeeping are good, and the service is acceptable.

We had a very pleasant 2-day stay at this hotel. The hotel itself was very clean and had a large public bath, which was a plus! There's a children's playground right next to the hotel, and across the street, you'll find the JR station and the Kyoto Railway Museum. On the first floor, there's direct access to a 24-hour convenience store, and the washing machines were quite clean. Overall, it's very convenient for both daily needs and sightseeing. It's especially well-suited for families with young children and those traveling by JR. The only minor downside was that the room was a bit small. The beds were two twin beds pushed together, and with a child, someone inevitably ended up sleeping in the crack, which affected sleep quality. I suggest the hotel consider a configuration with one large bed and one small bed, which would be much better for families.
