The location is excellent, just a short walk from Kyoto Station. Though compact, the hotel has everything you need, and the front desk even has Chinese-speaking staff. They also offer currency exchange services, but remember to bring your own RMB for the transaction.
On a separate note, a word of caution about some of the 'eateries' along the street that you absolutely should avoid. First, there was a ramen place with a surprisingly long queue. It turned out to be more of a Chinese-style ramen shop, and the taste was pretty mediocre. While it filled me up, it wasn't exactly a highlight. The second was an izakaya at the crossroads – incredibly expensive, a total rip-off, and the food wasn't even good. Seriously, skip it.
