After staying at minshukus, ryokans and western-style hotels over the last several days, it was a pleasure to end our Japan stay with 2 nights at Kyoto Machiya Fukune. The 2 of us appreciated the extra space of the Sangen machiya compared to our previous lodgings to just chill out, especially when soaking in your personal outdoor hot water (not onsen) bath or the indoor hinoki bath and looking out onto the compact zen garden. Beds were comfortable and bathrooms modern and clean. The included mini-bar (Asahi beer, sake, soft drinks and water) was an unexpected bonus! The welcome tea ceremony with traditional sweets (much better than that offered with the included entry price at the Okochi Sanso Garden in Arashiyama) was a far superior greeting than fronting a hotel reception desk even if one has to wait (about 10 mins) for Miki to arrive (which was forewarned in the pre-stay info); we were informed of our security code when we rang (using the complimentary phone in the separate arrival area) and could access the machiya while waiting. Miki was very helpful with local restaurant and sightseeing tips. Excellent pre-stay information was provided via email from Kyoto Machiya Fukune. While we didn’t use the laundry (complimentary) we did make use of the locker, which we found could store 2 large suitcases and 2 carry-on luggage with room leftover for shopping bags. It cost us ¥1500 for taxi/uber from JR Kyoto stn to the machiya. Once there it is only several minutes’ walk to various train stns or bus stops. Nishiki mkt’s western entrance is about a 10min walk away. This was my 3rd time in Kyoto with the goal to visit sights we hadn’t seen previously like Arashiyama’s bamboo grove and Fushimi Inari shrine. The Randen line’s Shijo-Omiya stn is just over 10mins walk away and the tram takes you into the heart of Arashiyama’s shopping *****, the Kimino forest and near the Tongetsu-kyo bridge. Then take your time to walk to the bamboo grove via Tenryo-ji shrine. They say it best to get to the grove early to beat the tourists, but it rained in the morning, so we took our time and got to the grove about lunch-time. While crowded, it wasn’t as packed as what we thought it would be, given it was a Sunday and also ‘golden week’ (maybe people were eating lunch). We also walked to and visited the Nison-in temple that was recommended by Miki; she highlighted the moss that covered a lot of the grounds; a very worthwhile diversion and IMHO better than the Okochi Sanso Garden we also visited). Had a late lunch in the local area then walked to JR’s Saga-Arashiyama stn; ¥220 to JR’s Inari stn (simple transfer at JR Kyoto stn) with the Fushimi Inari shrine entrance across the road. The place is pricey, but we’re glad we stayed here.

We really enjoyed our family stay (6 nights) at the Hiramatsu Kyoto. The room and food were great but what made it an amazing experience was the staff. Everyone was very kind, attentive, helpful and patient. The food was great and we enjoyed different breakfast menu everyday. Specially, we loved the miso fish and vegetables at the Izumi and the risotto at the Luce. Also, they had a Kids course that considering my son food restrictions, and he really enjoyed. The room was gorgeous, new and spacious. We had more than enough space for a family of three. Finally, as our first trip since the beginning of the pandemic, we were keen to avoid crowded restaurants and ensure social distance. The staff was very understanding and they accommodated such request so we could enjoy the delicious food without concerns. Special thanks for Sophie that started helping us even before our reservation. We really enjoyed our stay, so we highly recommend this hotel.

地下鉄四条駅から徒歩5分ほどでどこに行くにも非常に便利でした。おしゃれできれいなこじんまりとしたホテルで、ベッドの寝心地もとてもよかったです。スタッフの皆さんも感じよく親切で気持ちよく過ごせました。 サービスではなく部屋の設備部分やシステムに不満がありました。 今回は6連泊しましたのでホテルは早割でリーズナブルなところを選び、価格的には大満足でしたが、やはり値段相応の設備でした。部屋が狭くスーツケースを広げるのがやっとで、クロゼット、衣類用引き出し等がなく、荷物の置き場に苦労しました。部屋の清掃のたびに荷物を片付けなければならず、面倒になり清掃は1日おきにしていただきました。使用済みタオルとパジャマ、ゴミを部屋の外に出して新しいものと交換するシステムです。 ベッドサイドに個別の明かりがなく（ベッドボードのところが全体的に明るくなります）、ツインで利用する場合、自分のところだけ明るくできません。また入り口天井部分と居室天井部分の電灯はスイッチが一つで個別につけたり消したりできません。1，2泊なら問題なく過ごせたのかもしれませんが、今回は日増しに不便さがつのりました。TVにイヤフォンジャックが付いていたのは便利でした。 浴室のシャワー設置箇所（上下2か所あるうちの上の部分）が高く、160㎝の私でやっと手が届く感じです。160㎝以下の方はシャワーの調整に苦労するかもしれません。同時に宿泊した友人の部屋はシャワーヘッドを止める金具が壊れていて接着剤止めしてありましたが、ぐらぐらしてシャワーを置けない状態でした。 カードキーでエレベーターの操作と部屋を開錠するシステムですが、支給されたカードキーが反応せず毎日カードキーを取り替えていました。連泊なのに支払い明細が日にちごとに分かれ個別の予約扱いのようでしたので、チェックインの際に毎日チェックインしなければいけないのかと確認したところ、ホテル側でまとめておきますとの回答でした。このことがカードキーの作動不具合に関連しているのでしょうか。また、このアンケート依頼のメールも宿泊日数分発信されています。曜日によって価格が違うので連泊扱いができないのかもしれませんが、予約の際も手間がかかり不便でした。 3月半ば過ぎから価格が倍以上に急騰しますが、この設備では見合わないように思います。 部屋が窮屈で不便でも、地下鉄の駅と繁華街に近いことを優先する短期滞在の方向きのホテルです。

this is a very good hotel for someone who is visiting Kyoto and wants to have a comfortable clean place to stay. The hotel is very well located, very central to many of the touristic sites of Kyoto and the rooms are small, but have everything that is necessary and rather comfortable. there is a Starbucks right under the hotel, which is a lifesaver. The breakfast is quite delicious and it is a mixture between western breakfast and Japanese breakfast. the service for laundry is very good and in general the customer experience is quite comfortable in this hotel. I would definitely recommend it

We chose this hotel due to itsʻ location and it exceeded our expectations! The hotel staff was helpful and provided information in Japanese and English. We stayed for 13 days and were impressed with the hotelʻs determination to provide us with clean rooms, towels and other items. This hotelʻs location at Shijo/Karasuma made it easy to get to train stations, bus and the subway. There were also many excellent restaurants and shopping possibilities. One of the features we appreciated a lot was the laundry. We also appreciated that it was quiet.. didnʻt even hear people in the halls or doors close. Having lived in Kyoto for a long time, this was our first time to stay in a hotel and would recommend it for sure.

Was asked to pay extra ¥1200 upon check in which was not stayed in the terms and conditions. Room was small. Dust blew out from the aircon air vent. Highlighted to the staff and they only cleaned it on the next day. To our dismay, it was not thoroughly cleaned. Nevertheless, the staff in the restaurant were very helpful and friendly. Location wise was good. Near to a lot of convenient stores and restaurant. It is a nice hotel to stay overall.

We always into smaller boutique hotel with a real human interaction with the team or owners and in the end of our trip, we do not just bring souvenirs home but also bring home more friends and memories. If you have this objective in mind with your travel, IMU is your thing. When we entered the space, we know this is it. The communal table with lots of activities and chit chat when you enter. The team was very friendly and helpful too! Our room was simple and sweet, we have everything that we need. We love to walk so location is also great for us to roam around Kyoto.

Very cost-effective treasure hotel, the number of rooms is not many, located in the alleys of Kyoto city, transportation is very convenient to eat and visit Kyoto. The front desk English is good, there is a Chinese-speaking young lady, the service and health are very good. This is our first family trip to Japan and our travel agent, Yuko of Team Travel Kuramoto, booked us for 5 nights into this hotel. This hotel is ideally located within a 5-minute walk of the Shijo subway station and a 10-minute walk to the old part of Kyoto. Yuko got us a large triple room with three twin beds and a sitting area with a large window with a view of the Higashiyama district. The room was very spacious, and the bathroom was huge with its own shower room and separate toilet room. We had breakfast included in our room rate and we had a choice of a buffet breakfast at the restaurant on the 1st floor, the banquet room on the 2nd floor, or a set Japanese breakfast at a third restaurant. We tried the buffet on the 1st floor restaurant and the banquet room on the 2nd floor and the food offered (a good selection of Japanese and western style) in both locations was identical. However, the banquet room had no windows, so the 1st floor restaurant had a better atmosphere. The concierge, Airi S., was very helpful. I asked her for a recommendation of a moderately priced local sushi restaurant, and she told us about Sushiro in Kawaramachi. This was a fun conveyor belt sushi restaurant located in the basement that we would never would have found on our own. Another woman at the reception desk (sorry, we did not get her name) helped us find a place to buy a good quality yukata (Japanese cotton robe) – she suggested the Daimaru department store where we found excellent service and a large selection. We found all the staff at this hotel to be extremely attentive and helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel. We also highly recommend our travel agent Yuko who found as great hotels with good value in Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone, and Tokyo

This hotel is really inconspicuous but surprises us. The location is quiet and the service is in place. On the day of our check-out, the person in charge of the hotel personally sent us to the subway station and took us to the gate. In fact, we can't go to the subway station for less than 10 minutes. This is very, very hard.

Very helpful and happy people working there, showing things in details, and a woman even offering me her privat train ticket for me to travel to Kyoto, what a kind and nice lady! The rooms are beautiful, big showers and even use the same tiles I just renovated my own place with at home in Norway. So very modern rooms and I would defiantly stay here again and recommend it to others. Just very comfortable in every way.

We discovered this hotel purely by random search and was surprisingly delighted during our stay. There're very few review but I think it's because of being newly opened in April. Will definitely come back again if we visit Kyoto. We travelled in a family of 4 (including 2 children) 1)staff are super-friendly, speak English and helpful 2)they just introduced breakfast few days before our arrival --very nice waffle served with tea/coffee; 3)room is super clean - basically dustless and zero stain even at the corn of the room. 4)the room contains 2 big single bed and 2 Tatami with soft and nice mattress. 5)tea and coffee are very good. 6)5-10 mins walk from subway --not super close but the walk is very peaceful and nice. Some restaurants around. The only little drawback is in the breakfast. There's no milk, no juice for kids but it's just the 3rd day they started this service so I'm sure they will continue improving.
